Ques. What is the purpose of having an Advanced Microwave Lab?

Ans. Advanced Microwave Laboratory is a research lab mainly for MTech and PhD students in a wide area of reconfigurable & multifunctional antennas, satellite/ground station antennas, metamaterial/ metasurface-inspired antennas, antennas for smart phone/cellular communications, radar antennas, wireless power transfer, and energy harvesting, etc. The lab provides testing facilities for the fabricated antennas using Vector Network Analyser (VNA), Spectrum analysers, as well as an anechoic chamber for measurement purposes. An anechoic chamber is a shielded space designed and constructed to resist electromagnetic waves and suppress the emission of electromagnetic waves to the outside world. An anechoic chamber is shielded entirely with metal and has radio wave absorbers covering the surrounding walls, ceiling, and floor.

IIST Trivandrum Admissions: Students' Opinion

  • BTech

AI-Generated Summary based on 46 Reviews

Admission to the Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Aerospace Engineering at the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) is conducted based on JEE Advanced qualifications. Interested candidates must first qualify in the JEE Advanced exam. Since the admissions open post-JEE Advanced results, only these qualified candidates can apply. A separate admission counseling process is organized on IIST's official website. Typically, the last cutoff rank for all branches, including Aerospace Engineering, is around 15,000 in the Common Rank List.

Eligibility requires candidates to have passed the 12th grade with a specified percentage according to their reservation category. For the general category, it's generally around 38%, with slight variations for EWS, ST, SC, and OBC categories. The institute offers a total of 174 seats, with 75 dedicated to Aerospace Engineering. Management quota or direct admission is not mentioned, emphasizing the need for JEE Advanced qualification. Candidates are advised to carefully select their courses during application as branches cannot be changed post-admission.

IIST offers strong ties with ISRO and other space organizations, positioning it as an attractive option for those aspiring to work in the space sector. This exclusive focus provides unique opportunities not usually found in other engineering institutes, making it a preferred choice despite stiff competition and lower cutoff ranks compared to IITs.

I applied to the top for IITs giving courses in aerospace and this IIST and no private institutions because this degree is of low importance and intrest in the students of India and difficult to study and maintenance of these labs is far costly for getting profits through admissions and no nit institute is giving this course. My rank is less than required to enroll in IITs so I went for IIST.

As i am JEE Advanced qualified student, i have many options in JOSAA counselling like i am getting Mechanical in IIT BHU, Civil in IIT Goa, chemical in IIT ISM Dhanbad and also chemical in IIT Bhubneshwar but i choose IIST over those colleges because as I mentioned it is focused on academics and this institute has labs better than any other college in India also the I am getting ECE branch here that is why. Yes i got rejection from many IITs and NITs because my rank was not too good to be there. Our college has a very simple admisaion process, from what i remember, you have to fill the counselling form of this college which opens during the time of JOSAA counselling but on its own website. Then as the counselling starts if you got a seat then you have to pay the seat acceptance fee amount but if you didn't get one then you can wait for spot rou d which will have a high chances for your selection for that you have to pay an extra amount over seat acceptance fees. The eligibility criteria of more than 75 percent aggregate in 12th is not there but you should have to be JEE Advance qualifier. There are no other exams for getting admission in this college, the only exam which you have yo give is JEE Advance and the minimum criteria is the passing marks

I have applied for ISI but I was not qualified by 2 marks. For admission in IIST, You have to qualified Jee Advance. On the basis of your Jee Advance Score IIST conduct their own Councelling for their different courses. For my year 2022, Jee Advance was bit tough and cutoff was 20%.
