Ans. The Full-Time Institute Fellowship category is the most sought-after route. Scholars admitted under this category receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 37,000-42,000, a Research Contingency Grant of Rs. 1,20,000 per year, and pay a significantly lower tuition fee of Rs. 15,000 per semester. Ques. How is the PhD in Humanities and Social Science at NIT Warangal different from a similar programme at a central university or IIT?
Ans. The PhD in Humanities and Social Science at NIT Warangal is uniquely positioned at the intersection of technology and humanities. Unlike traditional central universities where the focus is primarily on literature, linguistics, or social sciences in isolation, NIT Warangal's department emphasises interdisciplinary research areas such as AI for ELT, Digital Health Humanities, Ethical AI, and Digital Culture, leveraging the institute's strong technology ecosystem. Scholars benefit from access to NIT Warangal's state-of-the-art research infrastructure, international collaborations under SPARC and GIAN, and a vibrant research community of over 378 faculty members across disciplines. The fellowship amounts are also competitive and on par with IIT fellowships. However, the department is relatively smaller in size compared to dedicated humanities departments at central universities, which means fewer faculty specialisations in traditional humanities areas.
