NITW Ph.D CSE FAQs
Ques. Can I pursue a Part-Time Ph.D. at NIT Warangal in CSE if I am working in a private IT company?
Ans. Yes, but with a specific condition. The Part-Time Ph.D. at NIT Warangal is open to permanent employees of private industries, but only those whose companies have R&D facilities and hold membership in CII, ASSOCHAM, or a similar recognised body. If your company is purely a service-based IT firm without an R&D wing or such membership, you may not qualify under the part-time category. You would need to obtain a No Objection Certificate from your employer and verify your company's eligibility before applying. It is advisable to contact the admissions office at admissions.research@nitw.ac.in to confirm eligibility before applying.
Ques. Is GATE mandatory for Part-Time Ph.D. admission in CSE at NIT Warangal?
Ans. No, GATE is not mandatory for Part-Time Ph.D. admission at NIT Warangal. However, having a valid GATE score gives you a significant advantage: candidates with GATE are directly called for an interview and are exempted from the written test. Candidates without GATE must clear a written test (covering GATE CSE syllabus and PG specialisation topics) before the interview. So while GATE is not compulsory, it simplifies the selection process considerably.
Ques. How many days per week or month do I need to be physically present at NIT Warangal for the Part-Time Ph.D.?
Ans. The Part-Time Ph.D. at NIT Warangal does not require full-time residential stay on campus. However, candidates are expected to attend coursework sessions, interact with their supervisor, and participate in Doctoral Scrutiny Committee (DSC) meetings periodically. The exact schedule is worked out between the scholar and the supervisor. Unlike full-time scholars, part-time scholars are not required to stay on campus, and no hostel accommodation is guaranteed for them. Candidates should plan for periodic visits to the campus, especially during coursework semesters.
Ques. What is the minimum duration to complete a Part-Time Ph.D. at NIT Warangal?
Ans. The minimum duration for a Part-Time Ph.D. at NIT Warangal is 4 years. This is longer than the full-time track (minimum 2-3 years depending on qualification). The 4-year minimum applies regardless of whether the candidate holds an M.Tech or a B.Tech degree. Extensions beyond the minimum period are subject to the recommendations of the Doctoral Scrutiny Committee (DSC) and Senate approval.
Ques. Will I receive any fellowship or stipend as a Part-Time Ph.D. scholar at NIT Warangal?
Ans. No. Part-Time Ph.D. scholars at NIT Warangal are not eligible for the Institute Fellowship. The Institute Fellowship (Rs. 37,000/month for the first two years and Rs. 42,000/month thereafter) is exclusively for Full-Time scholars admitted under the Institute Fellowship category. Part-time scholars are expected to be self-funded or sponsored by their employer. However, you may independently apply for external fellowships such as UGC, CSIR, or DST-INSPIRE if you meet their eligibility criteria.
