NIT Warangal MBA FAQs
Ques. Is the NIT Warangal MBA programme only for engineering graduates, or can commerce/arts graduates also apply?
Ans. The MBA programme at NIT Warangal's Department of Management Studies (DMS) is open to any graduate with at least 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA, regardless of their undergraduate stream. However, in practice, the batch is predominantly composed of engineering graduates due to the technical nature of the institute and the quantitative focus of the curriculum. Commerce or arts graduates are eligible to apply and have been admitted in the past, but they should be prepared for a highly analytical and tech-oriented learning environment. The programme's strength lies in operations, analytics, and supply chain management, which naturally attracts engineering backgrounds.
Ques. What is the minimum CAT/MAT percentile required to get shortlisted for GD-PI at NIT Warangal MBA?
Ans. NIT Warangal does not officially publish a fixed minimum percentile cutoff for shortlisting. However, based on past trends and student experiences shared on forums, a CAT percentile of around 85-90 is generally considered competitive for shortlisting, though candidates with lower percentiles have also been called depending on the category and the overall applicant pool. For MAT, a score of around 600+ (out of 800) is typically considered a reasonable benchmark. The final selection also weighs GD and PI performance significantly, so a strong interview can compensate for a moderate exam score.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed for all MBA students at NIT Warangal? What are the living conditions like?
Ans. Yes, hostel accommodation is guaranteed for all MBA students since NIT Warangal is a fully residential institute and staying on campus is mandatory. First-year PG students (including MBA) are allotted double-occupancy rooms. The hostel fee for the first semester is Rs. 43,000, which includes caution money deposit (Rs. 15,000, one-time), maintenance charges, seat rent, water and electricity charges, and mess deposit advance. The monthly mess bill is debited from the mess deposit advance. Students and alumni generally describe the campus infrastructure as well-maintained with good sports facilities, though the mess food quality receives mixed reviews.
Ques. How are the placements for MBA at NIT Warangal compared to other NIT MBA programmes? What kind of roles and companies recruit?
Ans. As per the official 2024-25 placement statistics, 22 out of 35 eligible MBA students were placed on-campus (62.86%), with an average CTC of Rs. 11.9 LPA and a highest CTC of Rs. 19.9 LPA. Recruiters typically include companies from IT services, analytics, BFSI, manufacturing, and consulting sectors. Common roles offered include Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Operations Manager, Management Trainee, and Consulting Associate. While the placement percentage is lower compared to some other NIT MBA programmes, the average package is competitive for a government institute. Students who are proactive in networking and skill-building tend to secure better outcomes.
Ques. Can a working professional apply for the NIT Warangal MBA programme?
Ans. No. NIT Warangal's MBA is a full-time residential programme, and as per institute rules, no employee shall be admitted as a regular full-time student unless they are formally relieved of their duties by their employer and submit a proper relief certificate. This means working professionals must resign or take a full leave of absence from their job before joining. There is no part-time or executive MBA option available at NIT Warangal. Candidates who are currently employed and wish to join must ensure they obtain the required relief certificate before the physical reporting date.
Ques. What happens if my qualifying degree result is awaited at the time of admission? Will I still be considered?
Ans. Yes, provisional admission is permitted for candidates whose qualifying degree result is awaited, subject to the condition that they meet the minimum eligibility criteria (60% marks or 6.5 CGPA) by September 30, 2026. Additionally, all exams must have been completed by August 15, 2026. Such candidates must submit a certificate from the Head of their current institution confirming this at the time of document verification. If the candidate fails to meet the eligibility criteria by the stipulated date, the provisional admission stands cancelled. It is advisable to keep this certificate ready before attending the GD-PI process.
