  • Yes, it is relevant to industry, and there are typically 5 days a week classes starting at 9 am. There are apparently around 30 students

  • There are typically 2 classes scheduled per day and some group works. You will have plenty of reading to do in coursework. Syllabus is okayish, a bit outdated, but has pointers to recent developments.
  • I had an internship opportunity during break, which was great for reference while job application, and this chance was provided by the uni collaborating with local businesses (management school)

Fees

  • 24000-26000 pounds

  • I would say that for someone studying in India, the curriculum was not at all tough. It was easy to pass through, and with a little extra effort, you get top marks too.
  • A positive thing about my course would be the demand for it all over the world. There were good labs and infrastructure to accommodate and provide the best technical facilities.
  • Negative part would be the not so much focus on practical knowledge and focus on self learning in general all over the UK.
  • There were typically 2-3 classes scheduled in a day only, which was very freeing, giving time to self-study and also socialise.
  • Lectures had around 70-80 people. Lab sessions were divided and usually of 30-35 people.
  • Out of around 80-90 people in my course, around 30 were Indians. So the Indian community was quite big there.

Fees

  • I did a master's course, so the fees for me were around £25000. We had an option to pay in full once or in 2 installments.
  • I used to live in a private student accommodation which cost me around £8000 for 51 51-week tenancy.
  • The fee structure was either yearly or semester-wise.
  • I was very bad at cooking and did not want to waste a lot of my time. So I personally used to spend somewhere around £700 a month, which included my food, grocer, ies and in general, transportation and daily life expenditures.
  • There were people who used to spend half of it as well and were comfortable. I just didn’t think much when I was spending my money.

  • My course was not difficult, but it requires regular study. There were many assignments, so you had to attend the lectures, go through the notes & study to be on track.
  • Some modules, like Java, Data Science, Database, etc., had practical classes as well.
  • Positive aspects of the course:
    • Good blend of technical & business-orientated courses.
    • Most modules were assignment-based. Few modules had exams. It was a new learning experience to do a mostly assignment-based course.
    • Good research experience, especially doing the dissertation.
  • Negative aspects of the course:
    • Should have had more technical modules from the Computer Science department as electives.
    • The number of lectures for some modules could have been higher.
  • In a typical day, there used to be 2-3 classes. Maybe 2 lectures & 1 practical.
  • timings vary. Some lectures were from 9 to 11 am; some were from 1 to 2 pm. Practical classes were generally 2 hours.
  • The average number of students depends on the module. A module can be taken by students from different courses. So, in one course there might be 50 students & in another there might be 150 students.
  • Indians & Chinese were the majority of all students. I don't know the exact number of Indian students in my course because we always had modules attended by students from other courses.

Fees

  • Total tuition fees were £24,400 at that time. I paid in 2 instalments. One can pay in full if they want.
  • I stayed in university accommodation, which was £6,800 for the year. I paid in 3 instalments. Private accommodations are cheaper.
  • Monthly expenses excluding rent come to £200-300 for food, groceries & other required things. I generally walked to class. In Sheffield, you get a student discount on public transport.

  • I searched for accommodation through an online platform called amber students. There you can compare the prices, locations, and sizes of the houses and decide which one fits your needs. You can also chat with them and tell them your preference and they can sort some places for you.
  • Sheffield being a hilly area, there are so many ups and downs, so I preferred to get a place near my uni building, which made commuting easier.
