Scholarship Received
Course Curriculum
- The course curriculum was practical as well as theoretical.
- The most positive aspect was they gave me many assignments to complete, which improved my practical knowledge.
Admission Experience
-
I applied to the following universities:
- University of Leeds—Rejected
- Queen Mary University of London—Shortlisted
- Aston University—Shortlisted
- University of Sheffield—Shortlisted
- University of Birmingham—Rejected
- I think the reason for rejection is I didn't have relevant modules in my bachelor's education, which was needed for their relevant master's program. The acceptance rate was also low for these universities.
- I chose this college over others because the ranking was excellent, and I read in the reviews that the teaching was good. I was really interested in the modules they taught.
- For the admission process, they told me to submit relevant documents in their MUSE account. They gave me the CAS after paying the deposit amount.
- The eligibility criteria is IELTS (overall – 7; Reading, Writing, Speaking, listening – minimum 7.5)
- The overall experience was excellent.
- I applied to the 2023-2024 intake. I was working and was really passionate about data and studying in the UK.
- The admission process took around 3 months.
- Month 1 – filling the application
- End of month 1—shortlisted and started to fill and upload the documents in their website
- Month 2 – paying the deposit amount
- Month 3—offered me a CAS letter to apply for the VISA.
Class Schedule
- At least 3 classes were scheduled in a day. The usual timings were 9 AM to 11 AM.
- The average number of students was about 500.
- 100 indian students were enrolled in my course.
Faculty
- Faculty to student ratio was 1:400. Some classes had only 30 students. It depends upon the modules. The faculty was easily approachable.
- It was more than sufficient to prepare me for securing a job in my field. The teaching involved out-of-the-box knowledge.
- There is a separate part-time job-finding assistance program in my university where they help the students find a part-time job.
- I really like Dr.Xu; she is very kind and available any time to support the students.
Campus Life
-
There are many campuses in my college. For engineering it was
- The Diamond and
- Sir Frederick Mappin Building
- There are study spaces, canteens, and libraries in each of the campuses.
- There is an international cultural festival which will be held once every year that takes place at my university.
- For sports and extracurriculars, they give a form whether the students are interested in participating in the university team.
Part Time Jobs
- Only a limited number of students secure the TA, RA AND DA positions. The pay range was around 12 GBP/hour for these positions.
- There are some retail assistant jobs in the canteen and a small shop inside the university. The usual hourly wage was 12 GBP/hour.
- The maximum hours to work were 20 hours and 40 hours during the holidays. It is quite difficult to secure on-campus part-time jobs due to the demand.
- Typically students earn around 12 GBP/hour in their part-time jobs. It is actually easy for students to secure part-time employment while studying, as there are many opportunities across the city. The usual process for students is to keep applying through Indeed , create a resume and apply. There might be some tests to know about the customer management and any other relevant experience. And then if selected, they will shortlist for the interview, which the students should follow.
Placement
- Currently, there is a very low percentage of students securing a full-time job after completion of the course.
- The average salary range is around 38k-45k GBP that most students in my program expect to earn after graduation.
- The students apply through Linkedin , apply for internships, and network with the professors for any recommendations.
- The placement experiences of my batchmates were actually hectic. They applied to more than 100 job postings and only got around 10 interviews or callbacks.
- Major companies that hire are Amazon, and NHS.
Accommodation
- I opted for private accommodation. I found this through Amber Accommodation.
- The monthly rent was 450 GBP, and the common room, gaming room, study room, and access to gardens were included.
- The challenge I faced was shifting to other rooms. Some of the rooms were very badly maintained, for which I had to complain and switch to other rooms.
- I recommend Sheffield 3 as the cheapest option for accommodation. It is around a 15-minute walk to the university from my accommodation.
Exams
- The IELTS exam is required for admission to my university, with a minimum overall score of 7.
- Statement of Purpose , 2 Letter of Recommendation, updated CV , IELTS test report are required for completion of the academic process.
- There was an interview as part of my admission process. Submission of the relevant documents and approval were enough to get admitted into the university.
Fees
- The full breakdown of the fees was 1,000 GBP for Deposit, and 28,750 for my tuition fees , where I was awarded a 2,500 GBP scholarship.
- The fees are charged in two terms (termly).
- An estimate of my monthly expenses would be 600 GBP. 100 GBP for groceries and laundry expenses. 100 GBP for transport and other expenses. 400 GBP for my accommodation rent.
Scholarship
- I received the International Postgraduate Merit Scholarship for 2,500 GBP. Its eligibility criteria were to be an international student from a list of countries.
- Every international student received this scholarship. Some students also received financial aid while studying to manage their expenses , which was around 450 GBP.
- On average, over a lakh students receive scholarships each year and typically it would be 2,500 GBP.
