What Students Say
Likes
- The teaching faculty is so amazing and supportive, no matter how many doubts I have, useful or silly, they are always there to help, whether in class or outside. It is very easy to contact them over email, and they respond within one or two days.
- The culture is very open where teachers see everyone as equals and are not authoritative like it is in India. Every student has a choice to participate whether it is lectures or activities or anything.
- All and I mean all information from lectures or extra coursework is available to us whether we attend or miss the lectures. There is a site used here called Blackboard where students can keep track of assignments, exams, dissertations, coursework, materials marks and feedback.
I signed up for Rostrum Education which is an agency that helps student choose universities, applications, SOPs and overall assistance. They helped me find the best uni for my course and I am incredibly satisfied. I had great modules on my course, exactly what I was looking for. I had a great experience in my uni, with my teachers, friends, and flatmates. I immediately felt at home here. Overall people are very nice and helpful and it was a new experience for me so I was excited and prepared for it beforehand, I had done a lot of research before moving here. I’ve been on trips, I’ve explored my city, I have participated in various activities and workshops, I have gained a lot of skills, I have developed a really good CV, and I have earned money as well.
Course Curriculum
My course was very up to date, we had in-class materials, extra reading materials, and library resources all dated after 2015 and many even after the Covid. All teaching materials included recent articles and research papers to keep up with the trends. Industrial exposure- my professors took the class out to Pearn Kandola, an occupational psychology company and we had chats with all the professionals to gain understanding of the regular tasks in the job. We also had to present our ideas to the company as a short pitch. We also participated in group discussions, one on one chats and built our network first-hand. For our research experience, we have a compulsory dissertation worth 39% of our entire degree.
Faculty
My faculty is amazing and well-selected for my course. They treated us with respect and as equals. I have worked with almost all of them and they are extremely welcoming, always ready to help or chat with you. They are very knowledgeable and always up to date with the latest trends. But faculties are completely different for every course and for mine I was very blessed with the faculty I had. They do help by providing references for jobs if you require one. I got one from my professor posted on my LinkedIn.
Campus Life
The Uni has separate buildings for different courses, with each building equipped with the best technologies, and infrastructure. All buildings have their own cafés for coffee and snacks between lectures. There are three libraries and study spaces. There is a students union building which has all the fun aspect, tech support, student support, free stalls everyday, etc. The octagon is the amphitheater. The interval is our main cafe and BARONE is our main bar/club. We have a lot of clubs and societies that students can be a part of and the main site for all activities and adventures in uni is GIVE IT A GO.
Placement
This is different for different courses, and this system is different from the one in India. The uni doesn’t help in ensuring your placement, but they do connect you with various companies, through company projects, career fairs, volunteer fairs, etc. We also have an employability hub where people are available all the time to help you with your CVs, job apps, job search, interview prep, assessment centre prep, and much more. They also have a lot of workshops happening all the time, particularly for the job aspect.
Accommodation
Uni accommodation- they have flats with separate en suites, but shared kitchen and living area. These are very safe buildings and I personally loved the uni accommodation and preferred it over getting my own. They have a common laundromat. They also have special events organised for only accommodation students free of cost. It costs about £9,000 for one year. Other accommodation- there are many other places to look the accommodation for yourself. The best sites to look at are Zoopla, SpareRoom and Rentola. There the prices are HALF of uni accom. But you also have to thoroughly search the area codes and distance from your uni building before renting out the place. Or if you’re ready to walk in the distance. Facilities might be less than what’s provided by uni but this is way more budget-friendly.
Exams
- IELTS— 8 bands . And an equivalent degree to their GCSE, I did psychology honours which fit perfectly with their requirements. All requirements are available on their page as different courses have different eligibility criteria. - 10th— 70% ICSE; 12th— 93% ISC; Undergrad— 9.3 CGPA G. D. Goenka University - Requirements: I submitted an SOP which included why I chose my course, what inspired me to go for it, and all the skills that have gained through internships, volunteer work and academics. I also shared relevant research papers and books I read and the knowledge I gained from them. UK-based SOPs are supposed to be very academically inclined, like, what my achievements are, what my academic progress is, what I want to do after my course, and what I wish to learn during my course. They assess your qualifications and skill set. USA based SOP overall assess your uniqueness, how diverse and different you are. They assess you out of the box how much you have learned from your life experiences and what events shaped you into the person you are today. They need authenticity. I did not participate in an interview, since many UK universities do not hold interviews and assessment is done on the basis of recommendations and your qualifications.
Fees
£27,500 for academics and £9,000 for uni accommodation
