Remarks

As good as it sounds , it isn't like that. Personal experience reeks of disappointments. Placement conditions are not good and students are not encouraged to go into the public sector for jobs by the administration as that wold affect the no of students appearing for campus placement.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

My college is affiliated to Biju Patnaik University of Technology and the syllabus design is such that it in big part is similar to those of IIT's and NIT's. Proper lab is available with instructors Extra-curricular activities are also kept in consideration and annually there is a two day sports event , musical night almost once every week and a 2 hour hobby class once a week. The exams are conducted by BPUT on a common date for all the B. Tech students all over the state. Malpractice is condemned and in case if anyone is caught practising unfair means then strict action is taken. Xerox copies of what's taught in class is provided which helps in revision.

Placement Experience

2

Placement is the weakest part which needs more and more work. While companies do come for campus selection it is not a guarantee that an individual will get joining until he actually gets a joining. Biggest flaw here is that students are divided into two groups, first being those who are interested in IT industry and second those who want to go for the core jobs or government jobs and this who chose government jobs are forever restricted from attending all placement activities and even the pre placement classes and many students opt for IT industry even if they don't want it because getting a government job means appearing for competitive exams and these two words "COMPETITIVE EXAMS" strike dear into the heart of many.

College Events

3

There is musical nights once a week which is conducted by a particular house( groups into which students are divided), There is a two day sports event every year , followed by an annual function. There are industrial visits and educational tours for 3 to 10 days to places like Sambalpur , Vishakhapatnam , Bangalore , Hyderabad , etc., whichever is relevant to whichever branch.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Compared to other colleges I would say that a fee of around 4 lacs for the entire course is not that high. It is feasible. Add another 4-5 lacs for other charges like hostel or lodge charge and other necessary expenses.

Fees and Financial Aid

Well , I had to take education loan for my study but college does help one in getting scholarships. Most of my friends got the scholarship amount. As to what I understand they would also help someone in getting loan from the bank.

Campus Life

3.5

Labs though aren't fully functional , they are good for experiments. The library is good with many books of quality and a scholar for students who are high scorers of their respective branches. Two days sports meet is conducted every year in a stadium in the city where athletic spirit are celebrated and cherished. Musical nights are organised once every week , it's like mini annual function.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

Hostel infrastructure is fine and improving every day. when I lived there , there were two buildings but now another building is being made and a gymnasium is also made and the hostel is well guarded by security personnel and water end electricity supply is also very consistent.

Alumni/Alumna

Seniors definitely are helpful but that depends on the socializing skill of an individual. Everyone has their share of problems to deal with so if one is able to get through any senior they will help , otherwise who cares unless you are from the same family.

Admission

I appeared for Orissa Joint Entrance Exam and based on the rank , colleges within the state were alloted to students. I contacted one of the faculty here and talked about admission and then he told me that the college will help and during the choice filling I gave my choices and got the desired branch.

Faculty

3

Faculties are good and supportive but at times get irritated which is obvious for a teacher. While some encourage self study followed by doubt clearing classes , other prefer detail analysis in class followed by viva voce periodically. Everyone has something new to offer other than just the syllabus , while someone offers encouragement , some try to keep the atmosphere less tensed , some are like mentors and guardians while others maintain a kind of friendly relation with the students.

Placement Experience:

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Placement Experience:

Placements at IIIT Bhubaneswar are generally good and improving, especially for students who stay consistent with coding, projects, and internships. In my college, students usually become eligible for campus placements from around the 7th semester (4th year), while many students start getting internship opportunities and pre-placement offers from the 5th–6th semester itself depending on skills. Every year, companies from the software and IT domain visit the campus for roles like Software Developer / SDE, QA, Analyst, Web Developer, and sometimes Data-related roles, and students also get offers through off-campus applications. Some of the common recruiters include companies like TCS, Infosys, Wipro, Cognizant, Accenture, along with product/startup opportunities depending on the year, and multiple students receive more than one offer as well. The highest package and average package vary every year and depend a lot on branch, performance, and market conditions, but overall the college provides decent placement support and training sessions like aptitude, DSA guidance, and interview preparation. The placement percentage is also fairly good for students who actively participate in the placement process, while the rest generally go for higher studies or off-campus roles. After completing my degree, my plan is to either secure a good software developer role through campus/off-campus and build experience, or if I feel more interested academically, I may prepare for higher studies or competitive exams along with improving my skills.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum was very classical , too much theory oriented for placement point of view they will provide last 1 month or 2 months training for aptitude part rest for technical you have to study on your own.

Reviewed on Jan 9, 2026(Enrolled 2023)

Course Curriculum Overview:

1. Relevance & Comprehensiveness (Rating: 7/10) The course curriculum at SOA is updated frequently compared to state government colleges. Why I chose this: I was attracted to the fact that the syllabus includes modern electives like Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and Data Analytics starting from the 3rd year itself, rather than waiting for the final semester. Real-world Prep: The curriculum is designed largely to crack placement interviews. There is a heavy focus on Aptitude and Core Coding subjects (DS/Algo) which helps in getting a job. However, for deep research or R&D roles, the theoretical depth is sometimes lacking. 2. Areas for Improvement Teaching Methods: A major issue is the reliance on PowerPoint Presentations (PPTs). Many faculty members just read off the slides. I would prefer more "Whiteboard Teaching" for mathematical and logic-based subjects. Lab Records: We spend hours handwriting practical records/files which are just copied from the manual. This is a waste of time. This time should be used for live coding projects or hackathons. Outdated Subjects: First-year students (even in CS/IT) are forced to learn heavy mechanical/civil concepts. While basics are good, the depth of these non-core subjects should be reduced. 3. Exam System & Difficulty Frequency: It is quite hectic. We have 2 semesters a year. Each semester has 2 Internal Assessments (Quizzes/Mid-sems) and 1 End-Semester Exam. Basically, you have an exam every 1.5 to 2 months. Difficulty: The exams are Easy to Moderate. It is not very difficult to pass. If you study the "Class Notes" and "Previous Year Questions" for 3-4 days before the exam, you can easily score an 8.0 SGPA. The checking is lenient for passing, but strict if you are aiming for a 9.5+ SGPA.

I actually have a very little idea about placements of our uni few seniors says there is not a single company visiting, while few were discussing the highest placement which was something like 20lpa or something,i think companies do visit our campus it may not be much but i have definetly seen one or two companies visiting. I plan to do MBA after my Btech so i am not that serious about whether i am getting placed or not.
