What Students Say
Likes
- Infrastructure is good, it's maintained well. There is central library, gym, a cafe, a dining hall, sports complex and ground. It consists almost every minimum requirements.
- Girls to boys ratio is also competitive in top branches it's 60:40 while in lower branches it's almost 70:30
- Faculty is well qualified, cooperative, understanding but strict regarding punctuality and discipline
Dislikes
- Campus size is very small (just 35 acres), there is gymnasium but of no use it opens after 5:30 pm and captured by alumni and seniors, juniors get no space there.
- ROI of college is not good from this year onwards. Avg package is 8,00,000 (for tech branch)but the course fees is almost 9,60,000 for 4 years, which I think is not worthy.
- There is no cultural fest organised here. The old one AAYAM is discontinued due to some political reasons. College life is not that much entertaining.
Course Curriculum Overview
The biggest reason of choosing course was my rank in jee. To be honest, IT department of college is most chill. There is less academic pressure than other branches like CSE. The course is less comprehensive, they teach us any discrete topics because exam paper is to be set by them. Compared to other RGPV affiliated college curriculum is better. But compared to NIT,IIT it's still lagging behind. Course curriculum should be made more specific so that students don't need to learn skills from outside college. It must be taught in the college itself and they should stop teaching subject like biology, workshop, civil to IT domain students.
Internships Opportunities
Companies like goldman and oracle used to come in 2nd year for internship. Highest stipend lies around 30-40k per month and lower ones provides about 10k per month. But hardly 10% of students get on campus internships.
Placement Experience
At the end of 2nd year, companies like goldman sachs comes to take interns. For placements students become eligible from 6th or 7th semester. In recent years goldman sachs is the biggest recruiter, oracle and Deloitte have also recruited, other firms like tcs and infosys also come. Giants like Amazon and google have stopped visiting since few years. Last year highest package was 72 lpa to an ece student. Average lies around 8 lpa. In tech branch 70-80% students are placed. In lower branches 50-60% students are placed. My plan is also to get placed at a decent package after completion of course.
Fees and Financial Aid
The year wise for B.tech IT Fees is Rs.2,41,100 per year right now, which has been almost doubled than last year. Hostel and mess are not included in it. If you opt for hostel and mess then it charges almost Rs. 96,000 per year. The distribution of per year college fees is as follows:- Tuition fees- 1,28,000 Miscellaneous fees - 1,04,000 Exam fees - 7,500 And some other small fees. Fees for other branches like cse, civil, electrical etc. is rs. 2,13,000 per year. Although all the fees mentioned here are year wise but all the fees in the college are submitted semester wise. All category students have to pay this fees in starting, but sc/st/obc students may get Post metric or central sector scholarship, and general category students can go for mmvy.
Campus Life
Cultural fest is no more there. Tech fest named AAROHAN is organized around month of November. Other hackathons are also organized. For Library, our faculty suggested us a book for reference I visited Library, but they told me that book is not available in the library, so you can understand that a book that is being referred by the faculty was not available in the library. So a lot of books are available but all required ones are not. Classes have smartboards, projector and fans. AC is not available. Sports are held but the biggest problem with them is they are totally politicised ( talking about selection of players). Groups like VVKM, VKNM are there but they are just wastage of time.
Admission
I applied for IET davv but I kept it as second preference in MP dte counselling. Other options available for me were some IIITs and lower branches in NITs but I wanted to go for IT sector. Now reason for me for choosing this college was it was slight better than iet and slight lower than IIITs but fees of IIITs was very high, So I didn't applied for them. When I applied for sgsits suddenly they increased their fees. I had no option left other than iet or taking sgsits, but in between confusions and dilemma I choosen sgsits by suggestions of relatives and other elders. Admission process is done through MP dte counselling, based on jee mains rank. Cutoff of general category for IT branch is about AIR 45,000. Seat allocation follows the reservation rules of mp government.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is almost 1:40. Relationships are good. Faculties are supportive. I reach out faculties whenever I face any academic doubt and they resolve it very politely. Our applied mechanics faculty Mr. Rakesh Purviya is an awesome teacher, his teaching style, his efforts during the class is excellent, so like him. Our Electrical faculty Mr. Shailendra Sharma who is actually very senior, but shows no efforts towards teaching he just come into the class and starts reciting ppt like a story. That's why I don't like to attend his class.(Hope it doesn't reaches him): There are 2 compulsory MSTs held per semester and if someone misses anyone of them an optional MST 3 is also organized for them. And end semester exams are also held as usual. The level of exam is slight difficult than other institutions in MP. About 20% get back in atleast one subject. Being an autonomous institution curriculum is revised every year, but it's still not relevant to corporate sector, for instance they are teaching us biology in 1st year.
Night Life
Night life in college is just nothing. But since college is in the heart of indore they are various places nearby to hangout, like we have chhappan, TI mall, parks, holkar stadium, rajwada etc. campus in timing is about 9pm and hostel in timing 10 or sometimes 11 pm. Locality is safe for girls and boys to roam around.
