My Experience at IIT PATNA

I choose Electrical because since my school days I was always interested in circuits. Curriculum for my course is perfectly aligned for real world problems, labs are a bit old fashioned but they are indeed from the subject I feel there can be much scope to learn 3 hours for each lab is large I think we can learn many more things in that time. Teaching methods are very good actually students can ask professor to teach us this way, they do adopt to our pace I like that. We have ppt sessions, board explanation, interactive classes, tutorials sessions. Exams are conducted as Mid semester exams and End semester exams by college and professors can take surprise quizes, quizes, class test, project based evaluation, assignment based evaluation. Mid-sem and End-sem exams papers are moderate few are lenghty and few are easy for me.

For Internships: Google - SDE role(1,25,000 per month) D.E Shaw - SDE role(nearly 1lakh per month) Optum - Full stack engineer (50k per month) Husk power - business analyst role (25k per month) Nvidia - SDE role (1,50,000 per month)\ Goldman Sachs - SDE(90k) Samsung - research intern(45k) UI path - female SDE interns (75k) few small companies for web development roles Mostly people are short listed based on cpi and then resume and then Job description.

From 5th semester students are eligible for placements, around 50 companies came to IIT Patna for placement drive and 60+ companies visited for hiring interns. As of I know by January 2025 nearly 80% of 4th years were placed and still it is going on these numbers might change there are aroung 500 plus fourth year students and 600 plus 3rd year students. Highest package was over 60LPA and average is 25LPA for over all placement drive till January(per company is not disclosed to 3rd years yet so I am not sure for individual companies) I am things about higher studies may be I might pursue M.Tech in Electrical Engineering

Basic Fee Structure:(Per year) Tuition Fee:2,00,000 Academic Fee:6000 Annual Health Insurance:1388 Gymkhana Fee:6000 Transport Fee: 2400 Hostel Fee: 12,000 In this above fee structure only Mess advance fee is varying in 1st semester it was 19,125 then in 2nd semester 19,525 then 3rd and 4th 19,125 then in 5th 19,625 and in 6th semester 21,625. Mess fee is changing due to the market and the menu we propose in 3rd semester we paid 800 extra for the change in menu. For SC/ST students and students with family income less than 5,00,000 Tuition fee is completely waivered. Other than Tuition fee remaining all fee should be paid by everyone. Our college support and encourage students to apply for different scholarships in them most favored are, 1)NSP (National Scholarship Portal) 2)Merit-cum-means there are many schemes under these scholarships which give 12,000 as stipend and few refund the fees paid to college. I have applied to NSP and I get 12,000 as stipend and they refund any fee I paid to the college.

Sports: volleyball,football,cricket,tennis,table tennis,badminton, carrom,chess,athletics there are coaches available until 8pm in college we can approach them or seniors for learning about these activities. there are many clubs like syahi(literary club), yavanika(dramatics club), anime club - for HOsCA and for STC - NJACK, RNA club and respective department clubs. Yes, there are our college official websites, instagram pages, LinkedIn pages, whatsapp groups to intereact with each other and learn college achievements and updates.

In Kalam each room is assigned to 2 people basically a room contains 2 beds, 1 table, 1 chair, 1 fan, 2 tubelights, power sockets, balcony. Wi-Fi is provided at every floor it is encrypted with college credentials students do have access. Mess quality is ok ok not best, everything they provide looks fresh but the taste is a bit lower than expectation and menu is flexible students have right to change the menu. Registration to hostels is very simple for first years it is offline roommates are random, but can choose your roommate and inform the authorities forehead the allocation. For 2nd, 3rd and 4th years an online website is opened there the hostel are automatically assigned and students can choose floor, room and roommate. They charge 12,000Rs per year that is pretty much affordable

I have applied to IIT Palakkad, IIT Bhilai, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bhuvaneswar and few other NITs. I have written JEE Mains and JEE Advanced and for my rank I got selected to IIT Patna Electrical and Electronics Engineering. First I have filled JOSAA counseling for my rank I selected what might my potential branches I can get into and during counseling I got selected by IIT Patna, I freezed that option and did the required paper work and submitted it online. It went very smooth every thing else after application was done through mails so it was peaceful.

I think the faculty to student ration is around [1:10]. Professors in Electrical department are very strict regarding the subject but they are very friendly in person they do provide us guidance not only in course but also in career. They do encourage our doubts even they are pretty basic, I like Abhinoy sir he taught us Analog circuits and Control Systems his lectures were easy to understand , he is down to earth & very patient and he is our hostel warden too he do understand our feelings just by seeing our faces, he never hesitated to explain the whole concept from start if we say we did't uderstand. I didn't like sumanta sir he taught us Communication systems, he goes very fast we ask him slow down then he tells to take an extra class so that he can go slow his paper is very lengthy we complained to him time is not sufficient to solve these questions he says you have to be fast , I don't know why he is like that. People do fail in subjects there might be many reasons short fall of attendance, health issues or profs like sumanta sir do love to fail people. Curriculum is good it is very much relevant.

We have two Gyms in the campus one is inside A.P.J Abdul Kalam hostel for male students and common Gym inside Gymkhana for every one. There are two Nescafes one at academic area and one at hostel area, we have banjara, Food court, Night canteen, Egg shop these run until 3am. One library at academic block and respective department libraries in respective department blocks. There are 4 student Hostels ; 1) Aryabhatta hostel 2) APJ Abdul Kalam hostel 3) C.V Raman hostel 4) Asima hostel one married hostel for PHD students and assistent profs. In college mostly people hangout at Nescafes and Food court inside the campus. Outside there is CSB cafe and MOMO Nation cafe. Inside the campus it is completely safe we have tight security that doesn't allow outsiders after 9pm and doesn't allow students go ouside campus after 10pm. It is safe around the campus but security warns us it is better to stay inside campus after 10pm
