What Students Say
Likes
- good infrastruture in all places of college except hostels, neat and environment friendly, there are a lot of dustbins around to throw waste.
- there are many food stalls so even if you dont like the mess food, you can still eat from these food stalls without having to leave the campus.
- seniors are friendly, non existent ragging and thus promoting good relationships with seniors, a vast library, a good college with great placements.
Dislikes
- course is vigourous, sometimes it feels like you are doing things that are not even needed in your course, too much outdated course structure, life is uncertain if you are from a non circutal branch
- attendance is strict, having to maintain minimum of 80% and if you fail to do so, youll have to repeat the course again and there are marks for attedance, even for medical reasons if u leave classes youll not be able to get the marks.
- fests are almost non existent, there is a lot of things going on in college yet it still feels empty, if u compare with private colleges the quality of fests are very poor, so dont expect much.
Course Curriculum Overview
MME course is very vast and requires remembering even the minute details, i took MME by a chance not choice, tho there are some aspects to which i took MME and not civil, mme has better placements than civil and mechanical, im still in the first year so we havent even touched the depths of core materials but as far as ive completed, we had workshop and chemistry lab so its still relevant for my branch, i would recommend better interaction between students and teachers and revamped syllabus to suit the updated world, exams once started will keep on coming so youll mostly will be free for the first month so i would suggest you to carefully plan things balancing both college life and studies and at times it might feel overwhelming but its what it is.
Internships Opportunities
there are many paid, unpaid internship oppurtunities in nitw, in various sectors , some even offer research based interhsips with faculty and might as well invite you to IITs for the summer holidays, u can even apply for an off campus internships too and the record is pretty good with them too google-software dev micorosft- research intern nvidia-hardware design tata steel-mech engineering intern are some to begin with
Placement Experience
placements are good enough to be honest, students become eligible to internships and placements after 3rd year, though any person of any year can apply for an internship, its highly unlikely that theyll be taken. some companies even offer PPOs major companies like google, amazon, microsoft, adobe, oracle, flipkart, nvidia, goldman sachs, jp morgan, tata steel and even startups such as swiggy, zomato, cred, paytm come to the college, companies like google, microsoft offer cse, ece, eee students very good offers and in 2023 a EEE student got 80 plus LPA package so placements are just doing good and will only get improved, same with MME too, avg package is 15,6LPA .. placement rate for cse,ece is like above 90 and the rest are all above 70 except biotech as most people are going into research side from that branch. i planning to secure a high paying software role and also give gate and explore oppurtunities in the core sector too
Fees and Financial Aid
the early fees for a student in NITW is dependent on the students family income, for students from GEN,EWS,OBC-NCL, the fee structure is as follows family income > 5lakh, then student must pay 125000 as a tution fee if family income is between 1lakh to 5lakh then students will get a 2/3rd reduction in fee (the category i belong to) so my tution fee is 41666 if the family income is less than 1lakh then the student doesnt need to pay any tution fee additionally students from SC/ST categories doesnt need to pay any fee regardless of any income group they fall in the first semesters needs you to pay more 40000 apart from the tution fee, which includes fees for hostel, mess, and other fees including library and infrastructure the even semesters needs you to only pay 20000 apart from the tution fee, which ibcludes hostel, mess only (the college doesnt approve day scholars unless they prove they are from warangal thus eliminating the need to pay this fees) as far as i know there is no financial aid for merit students, but during the admission you can take student loans.
Campus Life
there are two main fests in nitw, technozion which is in oct, its indias largest technical fest with hackathons, workshops and robotics and in march there is springspree, there are a lot to witness in these fests, there are even sportsfests too and this year our college hosted the inter nit and people from all over the country from different nits to participate in these. there is a library with over 1lakh plus books and acess to many research papers. hi speed lan inside hostels and around the college and classes are dgital too, cricket and football stadium and indoor stadiums for badminton and courts for volleyball and tennis too and a place to do yoga as well and gym too, there are many clubs to suit everyones interest example, robotic, dance club, astronomy club to begin with.
Hostel Facilities
hostels only provide u with basic furniture, a cot, study table, cupbaord, light , fan, shared by 2 students, LAN ia there for every room and the speeds are great, though mobile data is very bad in 1.8k the signal is very poor in some places, bathroooms are shared and there are enough for every floor but its not clean at all and the expericence is very unpleasant and they are getting renovated, laundary facility is there too, mess food is just fine and ill leave it at that, dont expect much, hostel and mess food is cheap both comined to be 20k for a semester, u cant rent outside as the college only lets u in as a day scholar if you prove them you reside in warnagal
Admission
when i was in my JOSSA college i applied for many other colleges including nit trichy and nit surratkal and some IIITs after qualifying jee mains, nitw is close to my home and its a high ranked nit, nice infra, good research oppurtunitites,so many companies that visit the campus during placements, more affordable as its a govt college, good alumni network, cant make it into IITs as my jee advanced score isnt that great, to gt into NITW you have to qualify JEE mains exam and apply it from jossa for btech, cutoffs are soaring high, very competive, only the best minds in the country will be able to make it here into the campus, over 1.6million students gave the exam last year and only 50k of these gets accepted into colleges like these.
Faculty
some faculties are great, they explain your doubts and teach really good but some faculties are like really bad, i wouldnt trouble myself giving out details but the interaction is very limited with some teachers, the course structure is mostly similar to all other branches for the first including maths, biology, physics, chemistry etc, and focus will gradually shit to your core subjects with the consective years. the faculty to student ratio is good but as i said the interaction will be limited, frequent cancellation of classes, only focussing on some students and neglecting the next etc, i really liked our IMSE faculty she interacts with the whole class, and about the exams... college feels very quiet when there are no exams but there will be minors very quick and you need to be upto date with the syllabus and topics taught in class to scorewell, as for difficulty its fair i must say, not to easy, not to hard and even if the paper is hard the faculty will compensate the marks so there is nothing to worry about about it , almost all students cleared the past end sem exams so the chance of failing is low i must say, the course curriculum is a bit outdated to be honest and it needs improvment
Night Life
nightlife isnt that great compared to the rest nits wich are usually in major citites, hostels for boys even for the first years isnt restricted and can leave the hostel anytime they want but not the college, for females its a bit different though im not aware of it myself, the campus area is well lit and students hang around academic blocks, the main campus gate is locked by 10pm, you can come inside but cant go outside unless there is a valid reason, library closes by 9pm, and mess closes by that time too, if u are hungry there is a food stall near 1.8k hostel and its open till very late in the night same with the gym, its closed by 9pm, a movie is shown every once a week by film club by the way, and outside of campus there are many temples to go to.
