Course Curriculum Overview

From all the allied health courses , bsc optometry is a professional degree which provides a good career after the completion. The course is included in one of the most difficult courses but have a wide range of job and higher study options. As it includes a 1 year internship we'll get experienced and can be prepared ourselves for a job. We can do higher education like masters or 1 year fellowship or PhD as our interest or can directly apply for jobs in hospitals, opticals or can even teach. Or can have our own clinics. Timetable comes 1/1.5 month prior to exam providing enough time for revision. Study according to syllabus and refer previous year question papers that are provided in university sites itself. Exam will be conducted for 100 marks and with 20 marks internal it will be out of 120. Pass mark is 50% including the internals that is 60 out of 120. Practicals will contain some viva exams and to do

Fees and Financial Aid

It is a 4 year undergraduation course with 3 year class and final year internship with a project. College comes under Rajeev Gandhi University. First 3 year have a 90000rs tution fee each year. Admission fees contains university fee of 15000 at the beginning. If opting for hostel it cost 75000 per year. Other than optometry other allied health sciences courses like Respiratory Care Technology, Renal Dialysis Technology, Cardiac Care Technology, Radiology, Cardiac Perfusion Technology, MLT courses are available. Also other courses like BSc. Nursing, GNM, and BPT is also available.

Also the y conduct programs for each departments on there specific days accordingly like world optometry day etc..They also conduct seminars and conferences for each departments. They celebrate pooja or navratri, kanna rajyotsav Deepavali, and also now we celebrate onam and christmas there. Have holidays for Eid and other special occasions.

Hostel Facilities

5

Room contains attached washrooms / sometimes common washing area. They provide separate cupboards and study table and chair for each student. We can buy bedand pillow, bucket and mug from hostel itself as they provide them if we pay extra. Each room contains 2 double decker coat accomodating 4 students in each room maybe more or less according to students no and hostel rooms. Breakfast from 8-9/10am.Lunch from 1-2pm and snacks and tea/coffee from 4-5pm dinner from 8-9.30pm. Overall food quality is ok and better than some other colleges. Registration for hostel can be done while taking admission in college. Just fill some form and see hostel. 1st yr hostel fee can be paid before accomodation. We can also opt for rental rooms and pg outside hostel. We have flats like provident, palm heaven, brigade panorama, and also many small apartments are available there in nearby locality within a 10 min walking radius like Vaishnavi Nagar, Anjapalaya/ Challagatta. They cost an avg of 9000 for 1bhk and 12000 for 2bhk and 15/16k for 3 bhk rooms

Admission

I took admission in Rajarajeshwari Institute of Allied Health Sciences which is a part of Rajarajeshwari Medical College. I choose this college as it is a top college in India and have a good campus with hostel. I didn't get any rejection from other colleges. I actually thought to apply at Vittala International Eye Hospital but didn't took admission there as they don't have a hostel facility and have no campus but just a building with eye hospital at 2 floor and above that they conduct classes in the same building.

Faculty

4

For each department they have enough facilities for taking each subjects and have experienced docters to teach. If you are a regular student, faculties will be soo good u too. They'll help you in studies and academics. Office staffs are a bit rude maybe because of there heavy work but overall it's ok. I don't have any particular name of any faculty as everyone are like same for me. In AHS, as we have different departments we have technicians to teach for each department. Exams are neither too difficult nor too easy. But evaluation system is a bit worst as it doesn't have revaluation or recounting. All we can do is get soft copy of our answer sheet. Evaluation is computerised. Each year contains a final exam on Nov-Dec and a supply exam on Apr-May months conducted by university. College conducts 3 internals and a final model exam. Every examination is held in same campus, internals and models in classes and finals in auditorium. According to my experience, Exam results will be like such that we'll pass if we are lucky enough. But now it got improved a lot and students are passing in high rate. There will be an examination fee for each university exam including aplication fee and fee for each subject. Practical ll be there in which it is conducted in our college for some courses but as for optometry venue will be some other optometry colleges till now.

Night Life

5

Gym, canteens, library are all available there. I'm not sure about gym time. Library is open even at late nights. Students can get permission & go there to study. Library includes separate areas for doing research & studying. Mobile phones are not allowed in Library & any of the classrooms but can be used in case of emergency. Canteen is also available at late nights as it is a hospital having 24 hrs casuality. A separate space for dining is available for each of them i.e.students, doctors, & patients. Small cafeterias inside the hospital will be closed after hospital timings. A vent for 24hrs is placed inside the hospital that contains some snacks, cakes & drinks. Hostel timings will be 6am-9pm. And students need permission from principal, administrative officer & warden to go out/ home for weekend/holidays. As the college is in Bangalore a lot of hangout places are there. Nearby college there is many restaurants of diff food, supermarket & rooms for stays & PGs are available.

Placement Experience:

Placements in our college are available, but they are average and not very high level. The college conducts campus placement for our course, mainly in hospitals and related healthcare sectors. Many students get placed through college, but package is usually basic or entry-level. It is good for starting career and gaining experience.
