What Students Say
Likes
- Mostly I liked the maintenance of discipline in the college like providing equal importance to every student (average and above average).
- I have learnt so many new things of life in these two years in the college. I interacted with my batchmates who had come from different states and gained some information about their culture etc.
- The faculty was very good especially our HOD mam. All were teaching keeping in view about the language issues faced by some North Indian students. The student can grasp everything with ease.
Dislikes
- The laboratory needs some improvements because there was not enough space for every student to perform any experiment. There were approximately 20 girls and 20 boys.
- Although the furniture of benches was good, but there should be some benches with good height, so that tall students do not face any difficulty.
- Almost no placement services for post graduate students
Course Curriculum Overview
I liked animals and plants, but I had to choose only one, so I decided to take Zoology. Yes, it can develop our career. Because, after clearing the post graduation one can go for NET/SET and JRF and can become a lecturer or Assistant Professor. Therefore, there are good opportunities in this field. The language barriers definitely need improvements. It becomes hectic to find the meaning of Hindi words and then convert them to English or other local languages. The teachers should use the English language so that every student find it easy to understand the lecture.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am sharing information about my MSc Zoology course. The course was completed in two years. There were total 4 semesters. The admission fee was Rs 15000 in which the uniform was included. The semester fee was Rs 25000 per semester and the examination fee is 3500 per semester. Also, there was a security fee of Rs 1500 which was later refunded fully. After paying security fee we could access library. Some batchmates which were falling in any category were paying Rs 20000 approximately. Some batchmates got free admission and some paid five to ten thousands. Some students belonging to categorise got post matric scholarship.
Campus Life
Overall my experience was a top notch. Because I have learnt so many positive things in these two years which have reshaped and developed my entire life. There were many different festivals celebrated and the different Garhwali performances were shown on the stage. The library was good, but it should be provided with more varieties of books and journals. There should be ample number of books so that no student have to wait for the book he/she is in need. In the classrooms there are projectors which make it very easy to understand the lectures. Yes, there is a sports class but not all the students take part in it, because some use this time in library and read newspapers etc. There are no student run social groups etc as of now. May be we can see this in future.
Admission
First I applied for Post Graduation entrance exam in Kashmir University, but I didn't cleared it because the seats are very less as compared to applicants. Also, I didn't get enough time to prepare myself for this entrance exam. Therefore, I didn't make it. After that I decided to go outside the state for Post Graduation and I researched about many colleges. I checked many aspects like fee structure, discipline, security and above all, the faculty members. When I went to Dolphin college, I felt it very cool and the environment was also very good for study purpose as well as the air was also clean as compared to other colleges. It is located in village area. This, I decided to take admission. The admission process is very easy. There is no entrance exam because this is a private college. For admission in Post Graduation course, you should be a graduate. This is the only eligibility you should match.
Faculty
Overall the faculty is very brilliant and experienced and they teach in a friendly manner. There are separate doubt clearing sessions in which any question can be asked. Although all the faculty members are very good in teaching, but I liked my HOD mam, Dr Beena Joshi the most. She always teaches wearing a smile on her face. No one can feel bored in her class. I wouldn't say that I didn't liked other teachers, but there was some language barriers between us. They used pure Hindi words, which we find difficult to understand. The exams are conducted after each semester. The exam pattern is neither most difficult nor easy. It is comprised of Long answer type questions. Almost every student passed in the semester exams.
Interview Experience
As this is a private college you don't have to face any interview. To get admission in this college you should be a graduate in the respective field, if you want to get admission in Post Graduation course.
Night Life
After college time is over, I used to go to the gym which was near my room. It's name is 'Unique body care'. I still remember Goldi bhai, the trainer and owner of the gym. It was a very nice experience in this gym. There are many cafeteria outside the college, but for Coffee Caffe Day (CCD) we have to go to the city. There are many famous places which can be visited on weekends. We can go to Forest Research Institute (FRI) which is located near Prem Nagar Dehradun. We can also visit Petroleum University which is in city. There are also many monasteries in the city area. But for safety purpose, we used to sit and enjoy in our rooms during night time.
