Course Curriculum Overview

4

I personally chose this course beacuse I really like mathematics from my Jee prep phase, I could have gone for ECE but chose this over that. The course curriculum has a good combination of courses needed to join IT or AI industry(Stochastic Processes, Regression and Time Series, Database Management) and also major disciplines needed for further academic pursuits such as Rea l Analysis, Cryptograpgy, Functional Analysis. As far as curriculum is it is usually updated with new courses every year but the thing they lag behind is not update the course that are already being taught with things that are improving in the real world. For example, in Al and Ml course there is still no mention of LLMs or Gen AI. The exams happen two per semester and according to me you can get decent grades in most of the courses(90 percent) if you study sincerely for the exams, I did not find studying very hard personally.

Internships Opportunities

3

Same as placements, almost all companies that come for placements come for internships too with average stipend of around 1 Lakh, there are various domains like Data Science, Software Development, Project Management, Consulting etc.

Placement Experience

4

Students are eligible for placements for during their pre final semester and it happens during the month of December. Many of top companies around the world visit the campus (Microsoft, Google, P&G, Nvidia etc) and around 1500 offers are made every year. The highest package is around Rs 2 Crore for Glean(US) and on average Rs 15 Lakh is there, around 70-80 percent students get placed in the recent slowdown, in normalcy around 85-90 percent get placed. My plan is to geta job in IT industry.

Fees and Financial Aid

Per year Tution- Rs 200000 Per year Hostel + Mess = Rs 10000 Scholarship - Various Governmentals and non Governmental including Merit Cum Means based on performance of top 25 percent in the batch and on the tuition fees not on the mess and hostels.

Campus Life

5

Annualy one big technial fest and one big cultural fest is there both held in month of January along with various departmental fests and enterpreneurship meetups. Library is one of the largest among all IITs and books are readily available. All classrooms have Ac and Projector screen facilities although most teachers prefer teaching with chalk and board. As mentioned before, sports and social cultures activities are top tier with robust sports infrasture present both centrally and with each hostel(21 total hostels). There are societies related to every cultural activity imaginable including Debating, Drama, Music , filmmaking etc.

Hostel Facilities

3

I have been given single room although the allocation is random you can be 3 sharing to single sharing. The mess food is decent on average, but there are times when it is not you have to eat outside for which there are several affordable avenues. The registration of hostel is automatic and you can not opt out or change your hostel at least for UG students.

Admission

According to Jee ranks, I could get circuital (without Cs) in Kanpur and Kharagpur but at the end of it I could not get Kanpur Maths Branch during Counselling, that is the main reason to get in this college. I always wanted to get in top 4-5 IITs for the experience so did not opt for Cs in lower IITs.

Faculty

3

Faculaties are usually very appraochable given the student is taking initiative with student faculty ratio being around 100:1. I really liked Prof Swanand Khare from Maths dept who teachs courses related to Statistics and Machine Learning. There are also some Professors like Prof Nahak which you should be careful about as they do not teach very good because it seems they are not interested in teaching at all. There are two semester in a year and for every semester we have a Mid Semester and a End Semester examination. They are not very difficult for most of the courses although some courses are exception ( Real Analysis, Modern Algebra). Not many student fail usually only for the very difficult courses 3-4 students out of 80-90 students fail. Most of the course structure is quite relevant with respect to both industry and further post graduate academic pursuits and usually new courses are added every year.

Night Life

3

There are various spots of nighlife inside the campus in form of restaurants, tapris etc. There are night canteens which are open till late nights, although they are not many avenues outside the campus. There are no timings for hostels but for campus you can't go out after 11pm. Some of the famous spots are Tikka, HJB canteen, Gymkhana although again only inside the campus.

Courses now deal more on chemistry related stuff. No need for course improvement Frequency is near end and mid sem there will be exams mode

The placements are held in two phases. In session 24-25, we have seen 1000+ offers to students in first phase. After getting degree, I would also go for doing job.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course for the first year is easy overall , maybe challenging for biology students because involvement of Maths in the curriculum but they can decrease their load by practicing Maths problems, asking doubts, approaching the instructors or their personal mentors. Otherwise the course is mixed in a good way with theoretical and practical part. Labs are conducted of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and CS in first year. You can choose CS as an minor in higher classes.
