Admission

1. College Selection: Why I Chose CGC Jhanjeri Colleges I Applied To: During my admission phase, I applied to four major institutions in the Punjab/Chandigarh region: Thapar Institute (TIET), Patiala (My Dream Option) Chandigarh University (CU) Chitkara University CGC Jhanjeri Confirmed Admissions: I received confirmed admission offers from Chandigarh University, Chitkara University, and CGC Jhanjeri. Why I Chose CGC Jhanjeri Over Others: I compared the colleges on three main parameters: Fees, Placements, and Crowd. Financials (ROI): This was the deciding factor. Chandigarh University costs approx. ?10-12 Lakhs for a B.Tech degree. CGC Jhanjeri costs approx. ?4-5 Lakhs. Since both colleges often attract similar companies for placements, the Return on Investment (ROI) at CGC is mathematically superior. Crowd Size: CU has a massive population (30,000+ students). I felt I would be "just a number" there. CGC Jhanjeri has a smaller, more focused campus environment which allows for better teacher-student interaction. Location: Jhanjeri is slightly on the outskirts, which means fewer distractions compared to the busy highway campuses of other universities. 2. The Rejection Story: What Went Wrong? I did not get into Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET). Reason for Rejection: The primary hurdle was the JEE Mains Cutoff. Thapar has extremely high cutoffs for the Computer Science branch (usually 90-95 percentile for outsiders). My score was around 82 percentile, which was insufficient. The "Soft" Rejection: Even for lower branches like Civil or Mechanical, the fee structure at Thapar is very high (approx. ?18 Lakhs+). My family decided that the financial burden was not worth it for a non-CSE branch, so I had to drop this option. 3. Admission Process at CGC Jhanjeri The admission process here is simple, transparent, and student-friendly. Eligibility Criteria: For B.Tech: Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects al

Faculty

5

7 to 8 faculties for 60 students. Faculty and students relationship is very good. I like my all faculties because all faculties are very good in teaching and they are very helpful. Per semester 3 exams are held by our college.

Interview Experience

5

Practice mock interviews , speThe admission process at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Jhanjeri, was generally smooth and streamlined. While the college is known for its high placement records, the entry process is designed to assess your basic aptitude and your passion for the course you are choosing. Here is a breakdown of the Written Test, Interview process, and how I prepared. 1. The Admission Process & Criteria The admission at CGC Jhanjeri is primarily merit-based (based on your 12th-grade marks or Graduation scores), but there are specific criteria depending on the course: Engineering (B.Tech): They usually look at JEE Mains scores or Class 12th marks (Physics, Chemistry, Maths). Management (MBA): They accept scores from CAT/MAT/CMAT. Scholarship Test (CGC Josh): This was a major part of the process for me. Even if you meet the marks criteria, taking the CGC Josh scholarship test is highly recommended to get fee waivers. 2. Written Test: The "CGC Josh" Experience I appeared for the CGC Josh (Scholarship) test. This serves as both an entrance and a scholarship assessment. Test Pattern: The test was online and consisted of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Sections: It covered General Knowledge, Basic English/Verbal Ability, and Quantitative Aptitude. Since I was applying for a technical course, there were also basic questions related to Science (Physics/Maths). Difficulty Level: The difficulty was easy to moderate. It wasn't as hard as JEE or CAT, but it required speed and accuracy. 3. Personal Interview / Counseling Interaction After the documentation and initial screening, there was a counseling interaction (Personal Interview). For undergraduate courses, this is more of a personality assessment than a technical grilling. Common Interview Questions askeak english 1st cgp criteria, 2nd test , 3rd GD and Last is interview. I prepare these from DCPD Department of our college from technical classes, soft skills and verbal communication classes.

Placement Experience:

As a BE Computer Science student at Chandigarh University, placements are decent but depend a lot on individual skills. Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester, and most of the placement process happens in the 7th and 8th semesters. Many companies visit the campus every year like Microsoft, Amazon, Cognizant, Capgemini, TCS, Infosys, Wipro and some startups as well. There are a good number of offers made, especially from mass recruiters like TCS, Infosys and Cognizant. The highest package claimed by the university goes very high, even above 40 LPA, but those are for a very small number of students. Realistically, the average package for CSE students is around 5 to 7 LPA. Mass recruiters usually offer packages between 3 to 5 LPA. Around 70 to 80 percent of students get placed if they are consistent with coding and preparation. Those who depend only on college studies may find it harder due to high competition. The university also provides training for aptitude, coding tests and interviews which helps in preparation. After completing my degree, my plan is to get placed in a good product based company. At the same time, I am also focusing on improving my coding skills and working on projects so that I can aim for better opportunities or even higher studies if needed.
