What Students Say
Likes
- The one thing I like that in HBTU, Kanpur seniors are very helpful. Our seniors guide us for future path and career.
- Here, professor do not burden student with lot of assignment and exam, so students get a lot of time to prepare for GATE exam or UPSC exam or for other extra curriculum
Dislikes
- Infrastuructre is not so good, and hostels are not well managed
- HBTU is divided into two campus i.e. East campus and West campus, due to this student have to arrange transport facility to travle between east campus and west campus daily.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum and syllabus here are quite similar to those of competitive exams such as the GATE exam, ISRO or DRDO exams, or PSU exams. This allows students to prepare for competitive exams while also focusing on their regular studies. College exams are generally quite easy, as most questions are drawn from the previous year's tests or assignments.
Placement Experience
Generally, in the 7th semester, students sit for placement. Some top recruiters of our college are Samsung RnD Noida, Samsung Delhi, Axon, Bajaj, Xceedance, TCS, etc. The placement ratio varies from branch to branch in chemical engineering or mechanical engineering almost all students got placed with an average of 6-7 LPA, in Computer Science and Engineering or Information Technology branch 70-80% students got placed with an average of 11-12 LPA and highest of 35 LPA.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee is 75,000 INR. In total including all fees like tuition fees, library fees, lab fees, and admission fees, is 1,35,000 INR for the first year. And from 2nd year onward it is 1,27,500 INR (since 7,500 INR is a one-time payment). There are many scholarships like the UP scholarship, reliance scholarship, and simen scholarship. The main scholarship is UP scholarship which is provided by the state government to every student whose family income is less than 6 lpa. The amount of scholarship varies from category to category and year to year, general category students receive around 53,000-60,000 INR while ST category students receive 80,000-90,000 INR.
Campus Life
Our college has many clubs, such as the drama club, dance club, singing club, and hobby sub-council. Each of them organizes a fest in March or April. A lot of books and journals are in the library, even many journals are very old too. And most of the famous book is available in library.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels' infrastructure is not very good and the quality of mess food depends on which hostel you are living some hostels have very good food quality and some have very bad. Girls and first-year boys hostel is on the east campus and the remaining hostels are on the west campus. A lot of PGs and flat rooms are available near the college almost everyone can get any PG or flat and private mess is also available near the college for PG students.
Admission
I had applied to NITs where I was offered a seat, but I received a lower branch at the top NIT and a top branch at a lower NIT due to my low rank in the JEE. Therefore, I chose HBTU, Kanpur, as it has a better alumni network compared to the lower NITs. I didn't get into IIT because I couldn't qualify for the subject-wise cutoff in chemistry. Admission to HBTU can be obtained through the JEE score card; applicants must apply via the HBTU website, as HBTU does not participate in JOSAA counseling.
Faculty
Faculty-to-student ratio is 1:80 (it may vary from branch to branch). Generally, all professors are easily approachable. One can go cabin of professors to ask their doubts or take future guidance, etc. There are three exams in each semester, 2 mid-semester and 1 end semester. The semester consists of 15 marks each, and the end semester consists of 50 marks. And 20 marks are from internal (which is provided by faculty based on the performance of students). Students receive grades based on this only (15+15+50+20=100)
Night Life
There are four canteens and one cafeteria open late at night on the east campus of our college. The gym is located on the west campus. The hostel and campus hours are from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM. The east campus is situated in the Nawabganj market, so every type of shop and restaurant is available nearby.
