What Students Say
Likes
- extracurricular activities: college has a super active college life with plenty of societies and clubs to join
- faculty support: most professors are knowledgeable, approachable and genuinely invested in students growth
- commutable and great location: college being in south delhi, is pretty safe, and is well connected within walking distance of 3 metro stations, making commute very convenient
Dislikes
- no gym: there’s no on campus gym, which is downside for anyone into fitness
- canteen food: it’s not the best, options are limited BUT there’s a new mother dairy outlet set to open so maybe there’s hope.
- lack of campus feel: since there aren’t many colleges around nearby, it doesn’t have the lively, inter college atmosphere.
Course Curriculum Overview
i'd rate the course curriculum as moderately relevant - it provides aging theoritical foundations but could use some more practical applications. why i chose this course honestly it was not my first choice but the college was great so i went with it. however, botany is a diverse field with applications in reasearch, agriculture and environmental sciences. it covers topics from agriculture, genetics, ecology, biotech, microbio, which is interesting enough. real world application and academic prep the curriculum is solid for further academic studies like masters and research based programs. the practical's help with lab skills, but there a a gap in industry oriented training, it lacks exposure to real world applications like sustainable agriculture or biotech innovations. areas for improvement teaching methods: some faculty rely too much on the theory based teaching rather than interactive or hands on approach practical exposure: more field visits and industrial collaborations or hands on research exams and difficulty level exams are held twice a year and per semester, with internals which are decided by the teachers only. exams are quite manageable and even past year papers are enough to pass or even score a decent GPA
Internships Opportunities
the placement cell is very active but most of the internships offered are general roles like content writing, marketing, and social media management. and while networking helps, majority roles ar eunoaid or offer a very basic stipend internships are mostly with startups and NGOs, offering roles in content writing, social media managment, HR, marketing and business development, research and ngo work. stipend if offered are usually very low or just provide certificates and experience while the placement cell does bring in opportunities most students rely on self sourced internships for better pay and experience.
Fees and Financial Aid
the fees for 1st year - 2023, was around 16000 plus examination fees which was around 2100, next year -2024, it increased to 18000, excluding the examination fees of 2100. there are many scholarship opportunities present, both as per category and the merit cum need scholarships up to around 10000 per year. fees for completing the course would be around 60000 as it does increase yearly.
Campus Life
campus life is pretty lively, there's always something happening, whether it's a club meet, a fest, or a dance rehearsal. student led clubs and societies are super active, id you want to get involved, there are tons of opportunities. fests - reverie: main annual fest around mid february - zistatva: diwali and navratri fest library and facilities library is well stocked with books and space to study, there's also every newsapaper present and there are computers free to use. classrooms have basic tech, projectors, and a new building block has improved infrastructure (hopefully) sports no gym, but there is basketball, volleyball, tennis court, a cricket pitch, and a big ground societies there are societies for drama, music, debating, choreography, quiz, nss, environment, enactus, consulting, and are pretty active. getting involved in the activities and competitions helps w networking, leadership and making the most out of your college life. overall, campus life is as fun as you make it, there's a lot to explore if you put yourself out there!
Admission
why i chose this college • my main priority was getting into a girls college which i know isn't for everyone but it was for me • my main and goal was to pursue microbiology, and only six DU colleges offered this course, gargi ranked the highest, making it my first preference. • i did get into north campus colleges as well, and while i liked the campus vibe there, i chose gargi purely because of my wish to pursue microbiology comparison with other colleges north campus offers a more traditional "campus life" with multiple colleges nearby, creating a more lively student environment. gargi doesn't have the same campus vibe. also the fact that it is not a co-ed which can be disappointing for people. admission process admission to gargi (and all DU colleges) is strictly through CUET, there's no other way in. cut off for my course (botany) and other life science courses is around 400-450/600, and the process is merit based. i did got my first preference college (not the course but im doing a minor in it), but if i had prioritised campus life over course i might have made a different choice
Faculty
faculty and student relationship: • faculty to student ratio is decent, almost all professors are willing to help and approachable. • overall the faculty is nice, but some of them (from my department) are kinda judgemental and just not pleasant to talk at all, they get unnecessarily personal and rude and have no respect for students at all. BUT most of them are nice and respectful. course structure and exam my course (and almost every course) has 7 subjects according to the NEP 2020: - 3 discipline specific courses or DSCs - 1 general elective or GE - 1 skill enhancement course or SEC - 1 value addition course or VAC - 1 ability enhancement course or AEC exams are pretty easy, and even past year papers are enough to pass. practical's can be hectic but can be easily manageable. failing isn't common unless someone really didn't study. curriculum course is structured well and covers a broad range of topics plus the NEO gives the opportunity to study from new disciplines as well. some subjects can use more practical industry alignment but overall it's manageable and straightforward if you keep up with the work
Night Life
gargi doesn't have hostels so most students live in pgs nearby, which mostly don't have any strict timings. popular student area is gautam nagar, where students from gargi, kamla nehru, lady shree ram, AIIMS, and NIFT live popular hangout spots diggin cafe: it's in front of the college, popular for its decorations and coffe dates hauz khas village: a short auto ride away packed with cafes, bars and a very active nightlife. safety and vibe hauz khas is fun but can get sketchy at night so it's best to go in groups and be mindful of your surroundings the general locality around college is pretty safe, it is a very posh area, pgs nearby college can be pretty expensive, which is why gautam nagar is preferred by most students
