- Proper laboratory guidance were given by the professors during laboratory classes.
- Every student was viewed as an individual and there opinion and doubts were taken into consideration and cleared too.
Dislikes
- Sometimes syllabus won't be completed on time and we would have to make do with what were taught.
- Girls to boys ratio was not nearly equal as there were more boys than girls in the class as the boys to girls ratio was 3:1.
- No field work and no extra curriculum activities was held in our department. Overall it was more boring like a regular old school time.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum of B.Sc. Chemistry Hons. in our college was based up of the Ranchi University which is almost equivalent to the syllabus of the GATE exams in India. As we study for our degree it even prepapres us for the higher education like M.Sc. and other competitive exams related to higher studies. Our course even matches with the current demand of industries and the amount of knowledge we would require to work in big industries, laboratories and research fields. These were many few of the aspects that I loved about our curriculum and it drove me to study with much more enthusiasm. Overall it was good in theoretical knowledge but our college lacked in providing us with more opportunities like internships, field work, hands on ready practical knowledge. The timing our exams each sem was 5-6 months for end sem exams and 2-3 months for the mid sem exams. Considering we have 6 semesters and the total number of exams were 12 the frequency almost matched with timing of syllabus completion before the exams. The difficulty level of each exams differed from student to student but on average it was considered not so tough if you would have studied regularly. If you think of completing the syllabus 1 day before the exam you can get the passing grade.
Internships Opportunities
That's the only and worst downfall was with this college as it provided us with close to none of the intership opportunities. College won't even provide with notices available and mentions of the any internships available for us or anything that could help us advance our skill set. Even so our H.O.D. was most generous as he would suggest us the places to apply for internship in person but not in general to everyone. He would tell us that we could apply for part time lab assistant in the chemical laboratory & pharmacies present in our city with our college ID card.
Placement Experience
The campus placement in our college is held after the completion of all 6 semesters and there is very limited number of companies that come over to offer placement but off campus placements starts from 6 semester onwards. The companies visited were Vedanta for graduate trainee offering 1.40 - 4.65 LPA Tata Power for graduate trainee offering 1.90 - 3.69 LPA Only 40% students got placements. Many students didn't take part as the packages very low & even the perks were not so good. I planned to do higher studies in M.Sc. As the subject was very intriguing I preferred pursuing more knowledge.

Campus Life
The overall campus life as not so great as it felt much more like school were we would come to college for classes attend our class and go home. There were close to none of the social aspects or club activities in short it was boring. It's upto your own personal social skills and your expertise in making friends. If you wanted any social activities you were free to do it with your friends circle but not in college campus. As for the festivals celebrated by the college was mostly Sarhul which is celebrated in Jharkhand specifically in the month of april. Christmas gathering on 24th December. And our national days Republic Day on 26th January and Independence Day on 15th August. We had one small college library with very limited number of books related to our course and curriculum and daily newspaper and magazines of G.K. College provides us with common attached table and chair of seating capacity of 3 people per desk. With green chalk board and no smart board and just fan and tube lights in each class. There is college ground and student are free to play on those grounds but they have to bring there own equipments and college wont provide any. And there isn't any specific sports activity held by college. And no other extra curricular activities held on campus. No social groups or club activities were presented in campus.
Admission
I applied to RKDF University of Ranchi and even got selected to enter in the same course. The reason why didn't choose this college because it was private and it's degree didn't held much value in comparison to the government degree gossner college was offering of Ranchi University. Plus the review of this college was not so great on websites and of the locals in the area as they won't complete syllabus and that the faculties were not so great. Second I even applied to Doranda College Ranchi and got selected there to take on the same course. But then i got to know that this college doesn't hold there classes regularly and students mostly have to do this on there own and faculties even doesn't provide much of the assistance there. The admission procedure was simple but you have to visit college campus and college office in person to get the admission form. The elegibility is 60% in class 12th. You would have to show your 12th marksheet to get the admission form. You would have to keep 2 passport size photo of yours and a xerox copy of 12th marksheet. After filling the form you have to pay a challan of Rs. 100/- for the admission near the bank which is next to the college campus. After paying the challan fees you have to submit a copy of challan, fiiled out admission form, xerox copy of 12th marksheet to the college office for the verification. When the verification is completed by the office you have to visit the department of the subject you are enrolling to select your major paper and generic papers there as department with register your name there. After everything is completed you have to check regularly on ranchi university website for your enrollment completion in the college, as they will provide you with your registration number. When you receive your registration number you are selected to join the college. Take the print out of your registration number go to college bank and pay your admission and college fees there or online on gossner college website.
Faculty
The faculty members and the professors of our our college department were awesome as they have vast amount of knowledge and so much experience and we got to learn a lot from them, and they were really friendly and easily approachable. We didn't felt as if it was student teacher relationship with them much more like it was friendship bond between us but we all had a lot of respect for our faculty members as they taught and helped us a lot. The professor I liked the most was our H.O.D. Dr. Sumantha Sen Gupta Sir as he would often approach us individually and share his own life experiences and his college days memories with us all in between free periods and outside the class, we all had fun time interacting with him. The only person we didn't like was our lab assistant as he was young too much about rules and discipline and doing things the right way. Our course structure was divided into 6 semesters with each semester having 2 exams 1 MID SEM exam and it was held internally in our college with 4 papers and each paper in MID SEM was conducted for 15 marks. Second End SEM exam and it was held externally and in this each paper was of 60 marks. And practical exam for each paper was held separately containing 25 marks each. For passing criteria in every theory was 30 marks out of 75 including both end sem and mid sem.
Night Life
Zero nightlife in our college campus as the college gates will be closed off after 6pm. We had no college campus hostel and students would have to find nearby P.G., hostels and rented rooms provided by the locals. Favorite hangout spot was college grounds, quadrangle and corridor as they have benches to sit outside and under the tree to enjoy sunlight and cool breeze. Campus has one cafeteria with wide range of food varieties from veg - non veg, local dishes, breakfast items, packages snacks, chinese dishes and it is all a bit on the pricey side compared to off campus cafeterias. Campus timings are 7am to 6pm from monday to saturday.
