Remarks

It’s a very good college, one of the best in South India, if your primary aim is good academics. Loads of patients and interesting cases, experienced doctors as teachers, almost all specialities and very good facilities and modern diagnostic equipments. But the college lags behind others when it comes to extra curricular activities

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course is divided into Years 1-4 with all years except the second year being 1 year in duration. The second year is 18 months long. It is followed by one year of Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI). The subjects include anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, pharmacology, ophthalmology, ent, Medicine,Surgery, paediatrics, gynaecology etc. There are written theory exams at the end of each year and we need to pass the cam to get into next year. We had drop year system when we were in college, it’s been taken off now. Most subjects are divided into papers I & II with 50% being the pass mark

Placement Experience

3.5

Like every other Medical College in the country, we are supposed to do an year of internship called as Compulsory Rotatory Residential Internship (CRRI) which is a one-year compulsory work in the hospital attached to the medical college or in any other approved hospital. We are paid a small stipend, it used to be 13,400 but is now almost 20,000 rupees per month

College Events

2.5

There are more academic events that arts events in the college. The biggest art event is called Kalaioma which is an annual event spanning 4-5 days. It’s an intra college festival. We also have inter college festivals, the other Np major events are sports meet and inter and intra college quizes

Fee Structure And Facilities

Feasible, being a government college the fees is very low when compared to other private colleges. The private colleges charge lakhs of rupees per year whereas madras Medical College charge fee between 5000-10,000 in most years

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are available for students from the state of Tamil Nadu who have done very well in their 12th exams. Scholarships are also available for handicapped students but again both are sponsored by the state government and not by the College itself

Campus Life

3.5

The college is best for academics and doesn’t really care about extracurricular activities. Sports meet and arts meet do occur but is not really encouraged. Labs are pretty good though even though they are a bait old

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel I stayed in was pretty old and in a bad shape. There was a shortage of water and constant power cuts. But about three years back, a new hostel was constructed and the freshers were shifted to the new hostel which is way better than the one I used to stay in

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni network is pretty weak. Some alumni do sponsor equipments and labs but other than that there is not a proper alumni network where we can contact alumni and ask them for help. Seniors on the other hand are very helpful

Admission

Via All India Medical Entrance Exam and counselling thereafter. When I gave my entrance exam, 85% of the total seats in The college was filled through state entrance exams and 15% through all India exams. It has now changed under NEET. Once you get a rank, you chose an available college when you go for the counselling. Mine was in Chennai.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty are very experienced doctors, majority of whom put in a great effort into teaching us. Since they are experienced, they are able to share their experiences which are invaluable. They are tough on us sometimes but they do it so that we do better

Course Curriculum Overview:

the course is very challenging obviously as we're studying to become doctors. it could've been better by increasing the duration of the course. our first year/ semester instead of it being for 12 months was only of 9-10 months so our portions are being pushed a little. it happened due the scam etc around neet and our course start date was pushed. the course could be made easier by increasing the duration of the course. we have exams every week which does make it easier to keep up with the portions but makes it too stressful for us. maybe instead of keeping exams on monday they could change it to saturday so we can relax and be free on sundays.
