What Students Say
Likes
- Faculties are well experienced, you got to learn from hod's as well. Daily practical classes and case presentations help you gain knowledge and improve your practical skills. SDL classes are also conducted on a regular interval to make it interactive
- Curriculum as per the latest guidelines as well accomplished. Also they will teach you the topics important not only theoretically but also practically that are sometimes not mentioned in the curriculum. They focus on overall development of a student
- Internship payouts are good, even better then many other gov colleges and there is increament of 1k annually. About college infrastructure, it's not that widespread and big but appreciable with almost all facilities being provided and is developing.
Dislikes
- Power cuts are one the major issues faced by students.
- Accommodation is a issue. As it is established in 2017, as the hostels and residents were infrastructured then; recently admitted students are being provided to live at residents outside campus.
- Campus life and social interactions are well managed though it may trouble you sometimes as it happens in every other college but once you understand it and becomes comfortable, it is good to go with.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is well organized by the authorities based on the latest medical aspect of our society. Practical classes and regular postings in hospital helps in better understanding. Being the only hospital in nearby cities, our hospital provides us a good exposure to varity of cases. Our Associate proff and HODs also look upto them and help us gain more real world experience. The best aspect of this field or if I have to say Why have I chose it is to serve the society. Absence of well qualified doc at the times of emergency is one of the leading causes of mortality in developing countried like India. Being in this profession, I just want to help people around me.
Internships Opportunities
You have to do internship in the college's own medical itself where you'll get paid montly. Meanwhile you can look upto research work and thesis side by side and prepare for PG futher. There are emergency postings as well. The working hours are regural but it may stretch upto 24-30 hours sometimes and becomes hectic.
Fees and Financial Aid
Being a government college, the admission feees is same for everyone. There is no concession for any caste. The admission fees to be paid every every which costs around 38-39k (to be precise 38,455 for 2nd/3rd year students) including 10k hostel fees for MBBS. If you chose to be a day scholar, 10k would be deducted so it would be around 28k. Also for 4th year, there is further a decreament of 10k. So if you're a 4th year student your re-admission fees would be around 18-19k including hostels. Fee structure changes per year, there is a slight increament.
Campus Life
Throughout the year you'll face exams, college fest and many other co- curricular activities. Most the fresh sessions start by Feb or March after the Covid phase. You got your sessions started with Saraswati Pooja in these days, then Holi of course and a farewell to interns batch. Then after 2 months or so you get your 1st internals. Over with that there are some activities regularly organised by the union batch considering all the exams schedule and everything. Most of you fests happend in the second half of the year before that you get sufficient time to make up you syllabus and go good with your studies. You can access the Library where a wide range of books are available from diff authors and publications. Then starts the festive season, there is oath taking of new union batch, then Teacher's Day, Ganesh Puja like events. Meanwhile some social services like health camps and blood donation camps, swacchh bharat campaign, etc. Then comes Gyanjyoti, an academic-o- journal events (kind of exhibiton) and Plexus (college annual fest). They'll also conduct sports events accordingly. Every year you also get the chance to participate in the Intercollege fests being organised by the top three colleges at Cuttack, Behrampur and Burla alternatively, which is definitely a great experience.
Hostel Facilities
I live in hostel in the college campus only. It is named "Sabari-Girls Hostel" which is a 5 floored building with 2 lifts, 1 mess at basement and 2 common study rooms on 1st floor.Sharing a room of 3 it provides 3 beds, 3 tables with chairs and 3 cupboards. Well lit rooms with ventilation and all basic facilities. Washrooms are cleaned and well lit and mainted regularly. Untidy corridors and garbage disposal is a issue sometimes but is manageable. A grocery store is available inside the campus so that you can get your daily essentials. 2-3 diff mess are available in college where you can get you meals available as per your taste and choice. But sometimes it is just tasteless and pathetic
Admission
Getting a score 597 in Neet 2022, I have applied for all the colleges in Odisha as most of us would do. The top 3 colleges i.e, SCB, MKCG and Burla were out of reach, after that my 4th priority was SLN MCH koraput over Balasore and Baripada due to connectivity issues from my hometow, also I've got some news of unavailability of faculties and some basic facilities. Sundergarh and keonjhar being the new colleges, I didn't opt for them as it would take some time to get all the resources and necessary equipments there required for praticals. Seniors play a important role in your college life, be it you personal, professional or social life. That's hwy considering all the circumstances I froze my college in the First Round of Counselling itself
Faculty
There is good faculty to student ratio (1:25). Practical classes are conducted in a group of 2 or 4 as per the topic and requirements. Faculties are approachable and they help you in every way possible. If you are an introvert, couldn't approach to HOD and Associate professors, you can go with JR bhais and didis who have just cleared mbbs and understand you and your circumstances very well just like your any other seniors. There would be 3 internal (or you could say semesters) exams conducted every 2-3 months in a year and then comes your final proff exams i.e, MBE. Before final proffs, sent out list is finalised that how many students can appear the exams that is based on your attendance (75% theroy and 80% Practical) primarily and to some aspect on your performance throughout the year. Proff exams are not thay difficult to clear if you've have studied throughout and have done the previous year questions.
Night Life
Koraput sightseeing is one of the keen interests of visitors. There are a lot of waterfalls like Duduma, punjisil, etc; picnic spots like Kechla, caves like Balda Caves; view points like Talamali , dams like Colab dams, temples like Gupteshwara Temple and Jagannath Temple and The highest peak Deomali of course. This a short list, the more you explore the more you would get fascinated by it's beauty. There are pine forests, coffee plantations, resorts, cafes, restaurants and recently opened Cinema. So basically it is one the best place to hangout but quite unsafe at night. At nights, you can hangout in the campus itself, can go for a walk, go to gym, etc. In the hostel, you can have movie nights and all, can cook together and enjoy every other way possible.
