- Hostel availability is somewhat limited. Only few boys students gets hostel accommodation. Girls usually gets hostel accommodation.
Course Curriculum Overview
Msc finance in JBIMS was started by Former PM Manmohan Singh ji. He was inspired by the course curriculum of London school of economics. Hence he was the pioneer of Msc Finance course at JBIMS. The curriculum is on industry needs and its relevance can be observed by the fact that JBIMS students are winners in most of the case competitions conducted by various industry leading firms.
Internships Opportunities
JBIMS offers summer internships opportunities for all students. The roles are finance specific like Financial planning, credit analyst, management consulting, wealth management, wholesale banking, product management, risk management etc
Placement Experience
JBIMS known for its 100% placements record. The highest package for Msc Finance is about 30 Lakhs per annum and average is about 18 Lakhs per annum. Students gets eligible for placements after completion of 1 acedemic year. Job profile includes Investment banking, credit risk analyst, valuation analyst, equity research, management consulting etc
Fees and Financial Aid
Msc Finance is a self funded course and hence the fees for all the students including category students is same. There is no fees concessions for Msc Finance program. Tution fees for 2 years is Rs 300000, Library fees 80000, other fees 12000, development fees 140000, computer facility fees 100000, project fees 130000, library deposit 10000 and other fees totalling to 8 Lakhs for 2 years. There is no management quota in JBIMS. Admission is based only on merit.
Campus Life
A very first week after admission we had an Induction program conducted by senior batch. They teach about industry requirements, personality development, resume building, basics of curriculum so that we should not get overwhelmed when we attend actual faculty lectures. During the induction process we learnt about team work and thats where our bonding with other batch mates starts to build. They arranged guest lectures which were relevant as far as curriculum is concerned. JBIMS offeres various clubs and committees which are run by students like Backbay Magzine, Students acedemic committee, placements committee, PR committee etc
Admission
Msc Finance at JBIMS considers MAH-MBA-CET, CAT scores for shortlisting. Otherthan above mentioned exams if one has cleared UPSC CSE Mains exam can also apply for MSc Finance. For shortlisting open candidates 97 percentile is a minimum requirement. After one gets shortlisted there is a WAT round where one has to write an essay of 300 words in 10 minutes. Next round is of GD (Group discussion) where around 12 candidates are formed in a group and one topic is given to have discussion which lasts usually for around 30 minutes, the final round is of PI (personal interview) here industry experts are at interview panel, they go through your resume and asks relative questions about finance and economics.
Faculty
JBIMS known for its guest faculties. Faculties at JBIMS are industry experts who have practical experience. Almost all of them are industry leaders in their own field. Most of them are alumni of JBIMS, graduated from IIMs etc. Teachers are very particular about attendance and they are approachable as far as acedemics is concerned. They do discuss about various case studies while teaching which gives an insights into current market dynamics.
Interview Experience
For MSc finance there are 3 rounds - WAT, GD, PI. In WAT one finance related topic is given which is to be written in 10 minutes. For GD 12 students are formed in a group and 2 topics are given by evaluators, students have to choose one topic out of two. The discussion goes on for around 30 minutes. And kindly remember its a GD round and not a debate round. After that interview round is held on a same day which lasts for around 20 minutes. The panelist are industry experts and they wants to have a healthy discussion with you, on the basis of discussion they evaluate your candidature.
Night Life
After a long hectic day at college, students more often go to marine lines which is near to the college. Famous south indian eatery Maniz is at walking distance from campus. Boys hostel is at B road churchagate. There JS hall canteen is one of place where students hangout. College have canteen facility where one can get tasty food at affordable price.
