What Students Say
Likes
- Centrally located, easily accessible , multiple ways of accomodation
- Good teacher with years of experience, comprehensive guidance to students and recognition to those requiring it
- No ragging whatsoever, friendly environment, unless you are a troublemaker you won't be finding yourself into any trouble herejere
Dislikes
- Some of the professors are straight up disrespectful to you, not just as students but as humans too, complete and utter disregard for the feelings of the opposite side
- Centrally located hence, very prone to traffic jams, which is a buzz for GANGTOK, would recommend staying close tho the college or getting out atleast and hour before.
- Lack of course option\ limited number of courses, minimum sanitary facilities available, over crowded
Course Curriculum Overview
-Chemistry is a fun subject which applies both pratical and theoretical aspect of learning. Its easy to grasp the context of you have good visualisation and listening ability -Lets face is Natural sciences in Bachelor's won't really prepare you for anything except your masters degree, which you will have to appear in NET for anyways -The course curriculum could be much more simplified and linear, it is extremely difficult to find any material online to study, hence if you miss a few classes your are doomed. Visual learning and more infrastructure would be much more appreciated -in my opinion the exams are way too frequent as mentioned before 3 exams per semester= 18 exams for your 3 year B.Sc course Keep in mind is is pre NEP -

Few Structure: Seat resevation fees:300 for all -Admission fees : 800 for Sikkim Students, 1000 for rest -For Sikkim Student i.e COI holders the semester fee does not exist however for the non COI students or out of state students the semester fees is around 4600 -An additional 800 rs will be have to be paid by all students every semester as exam registration fees. Campus Life
-Annual fest held in April or march, that's it, that the only program ever held by the college, ik it sounds boring af and trust me , it is, but you can't expect much from a government college. -Most classrooms use chalks and a greenboards, if you get lucky you get have classes in rooms having a so called smart monitor which is basically a fancy smart board, once again it's a government college -a large ground does exist, I repeat "exist" there's a few sports activities most of which are reserved for Physical Education dept. only, the only time you get to play sports is during the annual fest, so maybe once a year. -in my opinion, the library is the best part of the college, clean, quite, doesn't have a huge selection but gets the job done, well ventilated and fans are working, good seating composition, ahh I love our library -Student Representative Council, NSS groups, NCC groups to name a few, all of which one can be a part of from his\her first year of joining.
Admission
-Colleges I applied for : SMIT: B.Sc Chemistry, SMIMS: B.Sc MLT, Cardiovascular Tech. I choose this college because I only need a B.Sc degree for my further decision of giving competitive exams, hence did not prefer to spend on fancy degrees -I got accepted into all the colleges I applied for( not bragging,it's easy) -You apply online after finishing your 12th, bare minimum of 60% is required on your main subject (depends on your course). CUET score can be used stead of 12th marks but it is not mandatory -Most opt for their CBSE\ICSE 12th exams for the admission -Most go for basic Bachelor's degrees in arts, sciences and commerce Over admission is really easy if you are from Sikkim and have decent scores -
Faculty
-Student to teached ratio is high as it's a government college -Chemistry and Physics Faculty is really good and approachable, as for the exact names I would prefer to keep them private the same can't really be said for the Math department (it varies) -3 exams per semester: Sessional A(written): 25 marks , Sessional B(pratical): 25 marks , End term ( written) : 50 Marks -Around 30% of students get backpaper in the exams(B.Sc), and appear in the correction exam, the pass rate is much higher for Arts and Commerce streams - relevancy of the curriculum leave much to be desired atleast for now Keep in mind the 2025 batch of newbies will face NEP so it may change for better or for worse -
Night Life
-The PE dept. has a gym which came be used by the college students after classes for minimum cost of 300 per month , here the college gets brownie points -a cafeteria does exist inside the college but I have never once entered there, and am not planning to anytime soon, there are a plethora of cafes and lunch places near the college so you don't really have rats running a race - College Hostel does exist for both boys and girls in campus with a capacity of 80 each. The hostels are well places with good water supply and accommodation, but it turns out the food is disastrous. -The locality is filled to the brim by college students, it's hard to find a room to rent which is funny since almost every buliding here is for rent. That said you will be able to find a room to rent or atleast a hostel or Paying Guest, there are uncountable numbers here, be picky!! You can roam around even at 1 Am in the morning even for women, Sikkim is relatively safe, I did say relatively.????????
Other Applied Colleges
Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences - [SMIMS] | Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Cardiovascular Technology)
