Union Christian College, established in 1952 is a private college affiliated to NEHU, Shillong and is approved by UGC. The college offers UG hons. courses in Science, Arts and Commerce Stream. UCC also offers one certification course in 6 specializations including mushroom production, Apiculture, etc. Admission to the courses offered by UCC is done based on the candidate’s performance in the previous qualifying examination.

Application - Interested candidates can apply to the courses offered in online mode on the official website of the institute
Transport: The college provides daily transportation service for college staffs and students coming from Shillong. Bus services are also available for students outing to Shillong twice a month on every alternate Saturdays.
Faculty - There are a total of 80 faculty members in the college and all of them are highly experienced and knowledgeable.
The college has separate reflectories for boys and girls. The mess is looked after by the Mess Committee constituted by the Principal.

Likes

Teaching is the first thing that I like about my college. All of the teachers were so efficient in their teaching skills and they clear our doubts
College environment is the next thing I liked a lot. The college was spread across in acres and not in mere buildings
Academic facilities in my college is also appreciable. Every year, the authorities make a quick check on each department

Dislikes

Canteen facility is one of the poor maintained area in my college. It is not properly maintained and cleaned.
On taking girl boy ratio, boys are much low in number admitting to the college. The reason is yet to find out.

Students view on course curriculum

The course psychology itself is a mind blowing. While studying the course I was able to know the details regarding problem-solving, attention seeking, decision making, concrete thinking ans so on. As the curriculum is more theoretical, the real world application is extremely limited. The only exposure we get is at our internship programs. Other than that we are limited to our classrooms. The exams lasts about half to three-fourth a month and there are 1-2 days gaps between each exam so the student can make some last minute preparations.

Fees structure of course per year

As I'm from a reservation category student, of course I got some fee benefits compared with other students in my class. They will be paying like 9000 course fee per semester and mine will be paid by the government itself. As a part of admission fee I paid 3800 ruppes and that was fixed for all students from any category. When coming to lab fees, which was considered as a part of laboratory exam, each student should pay an amount of 1150 rupees. For examination fees, I've some fee discount, such that only fifty rupees was for me, where as my batch mates have to pay the full amount of 950 rupees. And also the discount was applicable to OEC students as well. While I was at college, the government were also providing financial aids to students those who are economically backward in the society. For me, there was egrantz scholarship, in which an amount of 1500 rupees will be credited in my account every month as I traveled more than 8kms from my home to college. Those who have a distance less than 8 kms, 750 rupees will be credited to their account. For Muslim community students, there were post metric scholarships.

Events organized, clubs and facilities available in the campus

Every year the college conducts its annual sports meet, college day and university fest. Those who are interested in participating these activities can do the same. Each department conducts a freshers day and send off party at the beginning and ending of the respective courses. The library infrastructure was really amazing as it provides books of different genres and subjects. The library has a classic stock of books that are of many years old. The classrooms were tiled and secured, but are not smart classrooms. The college also provides several club membership activities including dance club, music club, drama club, gandhi club, peace club, photography club, nature club and so on.

Students view on faculties and examination

As I was a psychology student, there were a total of 120 students in the department inclusive of under graduate, post graduate and research students. The number of teachers were 7 in total amd there was one lab assistant. The faculty-student relationship was like a family. The student can approach the teacher every time, they can share their vows to the teacher and the teachers were always friendly to the students. I liked all the teachers in our department, and they were the best. Their approach towards the students make them the favorite teachers ever. Our academic system was like semester system. Every year there was 2 exams. For me the exams were easy to student and to score better marks. But still there were 5-6 students in my class who fails. May be because they are not studying well.

How to get admission in the college and what sets the college stand out ?

The reason why I chose this college is that it is the one college that provides psychology as a regular course. Other colleges in my area are self-financing colleges. In fact, I only applied to this college and I was 100% sure that I'll get admitted to the same college. Thank God. Coming to the admission procedures, after my twelfth class, I had to apply to the course and college I wished to study via a centralized allotment process (CAP). When the date of application submission is over, the university will release the applications of students who got admitted to the colleges under it. There are trial, first, second, third, and supplementary allotments.

Is UCC good?

Admission:

I first applied to MIT shillong where I got acceptance but the fee was high so I had to lower it. I also applied for st. Edmunds shillong where I actually thought of joining, unfortunately it was too late and lastly I had to choose over st Anthony and UCC. Where I choose ucc I didn't get a rejection in Edmunds but no response or reply. I could have gotten into st.Anothony and MIT but each of them didn't fit my profile. Ucc was the best option as it had very affordable fees than others There's no admission process. Acceptance over money. Although they do give u limitations to choose ur major upon ur percentage and marks. If too low you'll get rejected

There is not much to dislike for these college everything is smooth and steady

Admission:

I had applied for 3 colleges 1. St. Anthony college 2. St. Edmunds college 3. Union Christian College . So after applying for these 3 colleges I prefer UCC because the environment is very eco friendly and good for student to concentrate on their studies . Others college are inbetween the main town is not much eco friendly to study .

in this college girls are more in number in compare to boys , because of its strict rules
Location: it is located far from city / town for that reason its very peaceful

Dislikes

for the classes we have to go from one class to another after every one subject
wifi it is installed but they never recharge and its useless

After my board exam i gave CUET exam which was to take admission in universities but i did not wait for the result , i directly took admission in Union Christian college . as this college is highly reputed

KoI tired in Anthony's and Edmund's but my mark is not up to there requirement so I choose this college. One of the best likable about this college is that they don't judge you from your previous mark instead they encourage you for the betterment of your future. I applied online for this college. They faculty members where very polite when we talked on phone. The fee structure of this college is in installment wise. But it's not a semester wise, it's yearly. The fee for dayscholer is between 23k to 25k.

Likes

The college campus is very big and open, hostel facilities are available for all, view of the college is outstanding
Very peaceful . Destination of the college is far from city,no traffic ,no noise and less pollution
Inside the college campus all the facility are available like hospital, church, canteen ,play ground ,etc

Dislikes

In Shillong the weather condition is very good, but in Union Christian Collage the weather condition hot because its near assam
During rainy season Barapani { lake } water increase it occurs flood some of the college road goes inside water
The college is far from city ,to buy one simple thing we need to go 20 km , for that we need to spend lots of taxi fare

As I took education honours I scored 6.2 in class 12th I took the application form from google. application fees i payed online, and the application dates were writen in the form there is ni Reservation for any one during admission there is no exam based on class 12th marks

I liked the campus it was huge with great views sorrounded by umiam lake its beautiful
Chappel or Church where every student attend whether you are hindu they used to attend

Dislikes

The classrooms they were kind of old it wasnt renovated
Yeah there is water issue over in shillong in rainy days the water gets dirty which no one would like to drink so we have to buy our own water ....college authorities also provide fresh water when it becomes a big issue

Admission:

There was nothing that hard to get into this institution it is like first come first serve theres no entrance exam...there are no reservation type we can apply to this college from Union christian college meghalaya website every notice can viewed from the site only...the exams are held 2 times in a year and trust me they are difficult

Admission:

Eligibility of the course was above 60 percentage. I found the application form in the Google in college website. The frequency and timing is acceptable with the difficulty level. The improvement of ultrastructure of the college and the hostels specially our science girls hostel.

Admission to B.Com Honours course is open to all who have passed the Plus Two level (Commerce)/Equivalent Examination conducted by the recognized Boards/University and recognised by North Eastern Hill University on merit basis.
