What Students Say
Likes
- College environment is peaceful and friendly. All faculty and students seem very approachable and the atmosphere is not tensed at all.
- Placements are good in Amrita and the acceptancy rate is high
- Lot of clubs and events are available to expand our horizons
Dislikes
- The mess food could be improved, it tastes pretty bland
- Strictness could be reduced especially for girls hostel
- Should give a more "college" life to students by keeping it more chill
Course Curriculum Overview
Aspects of the curriculum that influenced me to choose this course include the appropriateness of the topics with the current trends and as well as the fact that it is revised once every four years. The curriculum prepares me well for real world applications with equally good level of practicals and theory. Areas of improvement would be to not directly include core subjects without ensuring our basics are strong because then we find it hard to understand the subject in literal engineering sense. Frequency of exams is twice a semester, excluding the class tests conducted for internals. End semester exams are difficult but it would be better to conduct internal exams before midsems which helps us prepare better.
Internships Opportunities
We have not yet been offered internships since it begins only in the later semesters. Companies that usually offer internships here include Amazon, Flipkart, Google, TCS, Infosys, Intel etc There's also internship opportunities available at international level in Amrita because of their tie up with multiple foreign universities
Placement Experience
Placements in Amrita are known to be very good with high acceptance rate. From semester 6 onwards students become eligible for campus placements and interviews go on throughout semester 7. Companies that visited Amrita include IBM, Wipro, Oracle, Google, SAP, Dell, Amazon, Ford Motors, TCS, Honeywell, Bosch, Microsoft, Infosys etc Highest package for CSE was 56 LPA Almost 95% students get placed After getting degree I wish to sit for placements
Fees and Financial Aid
Yearly fees is 373000 Tuition fees is 3 L (Category-Management) along with 73k mess and hostel fees Caution deposit is 10k along with registration fee of 1200 for aeee, and 600 for phase 2 of aeee. Confirmation of seat was 5k. There's 3 categories of course fee other than mine which comes under scholarship: Slab 1 - 100000 Slab 2 - 165000 Slab 3 - 250000
Campus Life
Overall campus experience is okay Celebrations and festivals include BMP (Bharat Mata Pooja) held in August typically, Garbha night which is held during October, Diwali which is held during November, Holi celebration during March, Ugadi during April, Onam celebration during August/September etc There's a lot of books accessible in library main being study related, novels are comparatively very less with most books being philosophical. Sports offered in the campus include badminton, basketball, swimming, football, volleyball. There's a few student run clubs in college which impacts student life in a good way
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility is okay and it changes depending on the hostel building. Some hostels have attached bathrooms within every room, while others have common bathrooms for the entire floor. There is no AC, but a fan and 2 tubelights. The rooms are either 3 people sharing or 4 people sharing with a bed and a table for each along with a small cupboard. Meal quality in the morning is not good but the afternoon and evening food is nice. Registration process for hostel includes filling the form online and visiting the hostel for in person registration. It is pretty affordable since hostel fee is only 24k per year. Usually girls are not allowed to rent a PG
Admission
Other colleges I applied to include Vellore institute of technology, Vellore, PES University (Bangalore), Manipal Institute of technology, SRMIT. I chose Amrita over the others because it's well reputed for it's placements as well as for the standard of education. I also chose it because the exams got over early and the confirmation came earlier after which I just decided to choose this instead of delaying the rest. I got a confirmed admission from SRM but Amrita was overall considered better for engineering. I didn't get a rejection but I didnt get a good rank in VITEEE and I wasn't very interested in PES after visiting the campus to write the entrance. Admission process is to fill the online application form and required details to complete registration. If applying for AEEE, there's two phases - 1.2k for first phase and 600 for 2nd phase. Best of the two is considered for final ranking. Other ways to apply is through JEE score. Exams most preferred by students would be AEEE
Faculty
The faculties of EEE department seem very approachable and friendly, always making it free for us to interact with them as and when required. I liked all the faculties who taught me so far I didn't dislike anybody in specific so far We have two examinations - midsems and end sems for each semester. Midsems are actually not too hard (50 marks paper) but end sems are pretty difficult (100 marks). Few students fail to clear exams depending upon the difficulty of the subject. Course curriculum is very relevant and is revised once every 4 years.
Night Life
Hangout spots in our college include Lovers Park, College canteen, benches around the college. After a day classes students usually unwind by going to the nearby shops and having snacks and tea. There's a separate gym - one in girls hostel and one for the boys nearby to their hostel. There's 3 canteens in college campus - one for btech, one for biotech and one small canteen for snacks only. Library and reading room are in the third floor, with a digital library as well for working using laptop. Campus timing is typically 9am to 5pm for engineering students. Hostel in timing is 5.30-6pm for girls and 9pm for boys Famous hangout spots outside college would be the backwaters and the seashore behind the college as well as the ashram. The locality does not seem safe at night considering the strict hostel timings.
