Course Curriculum Overview

4

With my keen interest in electronics, seeing the curriculum of VIT Vellore I got that idea that it has a good curriculum with all the requirements that companies lay down and with all the guest lectures and aiding courses, we can gain industrial POV and a good experience building oppurtunity. All the practical labs consists of latest equipments which are used by industry experts with some of the labs being sponsored by top companies in VLSI Designing. This helps us have an idea of how to work with industry level instruments. The number of exams can be made lesser. For instance; 1 FAT is enough along with all the quizes as this will give students time to do other co-curriculur activities without missing on studies.

Internships Opportunities

5

With VITs own incubator for startups, freshers can opt for interships in these companies for experience building. Also companies like Apple, Google and Adobe offer interships at VIT. I am not quite sure about the roles and stipends because I am just a fresher and don't have much knowledge regarding the intership things in VIT yet.

Placement Experience

4

From mid of 7th semester, the students are eligible to sit for campus placement keep in mind that all their backlogs are cleared. Many companies visit for on-campus placement. for example: This year Google, Apple, Adobe, Siemens, Intel, WHG, and many big MNCs visited the campus apart from these, mass recruiters like TCS also made their offers. For a high line : 54 students have taken Google offer. So this can show that no of offers made are good in number and placement ratio is quite high. My course particular: The highest package went upto 60LPA and the average was 9LPA. These are not official stats so numbers may vary. Approx 80% or more students have been placed so far. I am planning to get a high paying job from the on-campus placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are two groups in which the courses are divided: Group-A :- theory extensive courses Group-B:- Lab extensive courses Then there is categories in the fees structure which is decided by VITEEE rank: Tution fees per anuum:- Category-1: Group-A -> 173000 Group-B-> 195000 Category-2: Group-A -> 232000 Group-B-> 304000 Category-3: Group-A -> 340000 Group-B-> 402000 Category-4: Group-A -> 365000 Group-B-> 445000 Category-5: Group-A -> 395000 Group-B-> 490000 Note:- For more details on which courses comes under which group, pls visit the official VIT website: https://vit.ac.in Caution Fees:- 3000/- (one-time payment)(Refundable)(At time of admission) This is all we need to pay during admission time. There are also multiple scholarships and financial aids available for economically weaker students. All the details are mentioned on the official website. One of them is through VITEEE rank. If candidate ranks in top 100 then scholarships are provided by college.

Campus Life

5

VIT hosts two grand fests annually: 1. Gravitas - a tech. fest which is usually held in September end 2. Riviera - a cultural fest which is usually held in January. Apart from that minor cultural fests and competitions are held regularly by the clubs themselves. The library at VIT Vellore is well-built and properly maintained. It has a large collection of books, journals, novels, research papers and also access to E-library of some prestigious universities. Also each month new collection of books are added. The classrooms are Smart-Board enabled and are spacious enough to accomodate 70 students or even more. The campus has 1 football ground, 1 cricket stadium, olympic size running track, multiple badminton courts indoor and outdoor, volleyball courts, basketball courts and gyms. There are many clubs organised by VIT or the students also. Also there are international Chapters like IEEE. VTOP is the official student portal. Everything you want to do in this college can be done through this portal. Course registration, leave, club registration, etc.

Hostel Facilities

5

VIT has very good and large number of hostels for both boys and girls. There are 14 blocks in Men's hostel and 8 blocks in Women's Hostel. Accomodation varies from 2 bed to 6 bed with increment of 1 bed. Also there is option for AC and NON-AC rooms. And if you opt for deluxe rooms, they are more spacious than usual rooms. For facilities provided, you are provided with a table, chair, cot, almira and cupboard. The bathrooms and toilets are common. The quality of food is decent enough in the mess. The mess of every block is maintained by different third party caterers so the food taste may vary every other block. The hostel registration is also done online at the time of admission through the same admission portal. The hostels are quite affordable with range of 103000 for 6-bed to 203000 for 2-bed deluxe room. These charges include the mess and laundary.

Admission

I had taken the JEE Mains and Advanced examination but unfortunately couldn't make it to cutoff in JEE Advanced and in JEE Mains I couldn't get my desired college. Apart from that I was getting GFTIs through Mains rank and comparing the colleges I got and VIT, I felt VIT has better academics and infrastructure. To get admission in VIT, an entrance exam is conducted by VIT itself called VITEEE. Students need to take the entrance exam. There is no cutoff but there are subject-wise cutoffs and so are the fees categories divided according to the ranks for every course. After the results are out, there is a counselling process through which seat is alloted. Everything is online and is a very smooth process.

Faculty

4

The faculty to student ratio ranges around like in one class there are approx. 70 students. (1:70). The faculties are friendly and they can be approached in their respective cabins in their idle time or can be contacted through emails too. I would prefer not to answer the best faculties question as each and every teacher has their own method of teaching and some might find it useful others might not. Some of the faculties are marked as blacklisted by the senior students. Those faculties are marked so based on some criteria. for ex:- their behaviour, if they give good marks or not, difficulty level of their question paper, attendance norms, etc. In 1 semester there are total of 3 major exams : 2- Continuous Assessment Tests (CATs) 1- Final Assessment Test(FAT) Apart from these subject-wise quizes are taken by the respective teachers and number of quizes depend on the teacher. The level of exams are from moderate to difficult. Most of the students clear the exams. The course curriculum is very relevant and is designed keeping in the mind the essential requirements by the respective companies excelling the field and industrial requirements

Night Life

2

The nightlife in VIT is quite restricted. With strict hostel in-time of 9:00 pm and campus in-time 8:00pm(for boys), the nightlife is basically inside your hostel room only. But in the daytime, there are many Nescafe booths, mini-store, Food Courts, and cafes which are among the favourite hangout spots of students. Most famous is Foody's which is kind of a recreational area. Well with a quite tight security and large security staff, I can say it is safe to roam out in night if permitted. But not advised because of the insects.

For campus placements students of the 4th year or 7th semester are the eligible ones. Multiple companies like zoho, apple,TCS,CTS, accenture etc have come and multiple small companies too. But the intake for the big and reknown MNCs were low from abt 2-3 candidates only.the placement here is 100% but the companies may vary.My future goal is to go for a government official stream after I finish my masters abroad.

From 3rd year itself a student become eligible for campus placements and some of seniors got ino flipkart like companies. So the college is good at placement. In any colleges, due to college the student can't only be placed, their skills, talents, communication is more important to get placed so based their knowledge the students get placed. only thing college need to do is getting good companies with package and our college also provide it.
