Course Curriculum Overview

3

The course curriculum is relevant and according to UGC standards. Sometimes the things are not much in depth required but exams at times also asked out of syllabus in-depth topics. My course was a specialized course affiliated with Upgrad campus, so upgrad faculties taught us our major related subjects but we students actually didn't liked their curriculum much nor their facilities were top notch. That extra paid fees was not worth it. Continuous Assessments were held mostly after completion of 2 units, so 3 CA's were held in 5 months out of which 2 best were considered for final grading. The midterm was held after 2-2.5 months after commencement of classes and then end term after its 1.5-2 months So overall the course curriculum in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness I would rate 3 out of 5

Internships Opportunities

4

After 5th semester, all students who have registered for placements starts to actively get internship opportunities for on campus drives of companies according to their eligibility which is based on their CGPA and the number of reappears. Amazon hired 11 interns on campus at 1lakh per month stipend for SDE role, similarly during starting months many companies like Morgan Stanley, Juspay, Moveinsync, Optimyzr, Servicenow, Infineon, Philips , Instabase, Namma Yatri, GAP etc for SDE roles with high stipends and PPO CTC ranging from 12-30 lpa. Companies also came for roles like data analyst, research analyst, AI/ML engineers, and other data science related roles like Play Simple Games, etc With passing months , the CTC declined and with companies mostly giving around 5 lpa with mass recruiters like TCS, cognizant, etc coming. There are very few high paying jobs coming 7th sem end and 8th semester. At the end people also have to go into sales roles or very low pay jobs We also get regular updates on competitive events like Microsoft's Imagine Cup and off campus hirings of companies on other platforms like unstop and specific carrer websites of those companies like of Google , Goldman Sachs, American Express, etc

Placement Experience

4

The placement cell was good enough and worked for bringing more and more companies to the college. It even gave notifications for off campus hirings of big MNCs on unstop or other platforms The placements mostly start 5th semester onwards and the eligible companies are listed on each student's placement portal were he could chose for which to register or not. Amazon also hired 11 interns on campus at 1lakh per month. Highest package offered this year officially was 52 lpa and average for top 10% packages is 12 lpa but most packages now are around 5-7 lpa. I'm also currently on an internship

Fees and Financial Aid

My fee for btech CSE was 1.05 lakh per semester (referred lps hereafter), after 30% scholarship I got on 1.5 lps since I chose a course with specialization associated with upgrad campus but for core CSE it was 1.2 lps. My fees till now stays constant also additional charges like exam fees(3000 yearly). The basic course fees and exam fees have been rising each year for all new joiners which then stays constant for them too The maximum scholarship varies on the time period you register divided into 3 phases declining with each phase. I got max that was 30% in phase 3. The scholarship %age depends on Jee or lpunest or 12th score (may have changed now)

Campus Life

5

The campus life was good. It was a ragging free campus. There were a lot of student organisations or clubs which organised a number of events from different kinds of competitions and even concerts. There are multiple societies like theatre, dance, literary, music, folk dance, instruments, etc with an instructor provided by college and regular classes after academic hours which provided lots of opportunities to represent college in inter University competitions for all categories. The library is huge with vast number of books for all subjects or categories There are 3 main fests organised by college namely Spectra, One World and One India which are mainly big competitions between all departments

Hostel Facilities

4

I lived in hostel. There are all sorts of accomodations available in AC and non AC and 1,2,3,4 and 5 seater options and dormitories also. In the room we had just bed(without mattress), a single gate almirah, attached washroom and bathroom separate, a desert cooler or an AC. North or South Indian mess options are available mostly, price based on number of meals opted (30, 35 and 40k for 2, 3 and 4 meals respectively). Each hostel has its mess and other cafeterias also as mess option. Some are bad but some are good too . There are a lot of food courts and good options to pay and eat available so one can also choose to not opt any mess. Any complaints regarding maintenance of room are heard of by lodging an online complaint on their portal which is quite convenient

Admission

I gave JEE Mains but didn't secure a good percentile for a good govt college nor I gave exams for VIT, SRM or BITS so had to choose an other private one because I didn't wanted a drop year. From among all the private colleges I saw with admissions not closed yet then like Amity, Sharda, Chandigarh etc, based on their YouTube reviews , fees, campus, placement numbers, etc, I felt LPU was better than all others.

Faculty

3

The course structure was ok, not bad. The final marking fir most subjects are given based on 5 marks for attendance, 25 Continuous Assessments (CA), 20 Mid-term and 50 End-term. There are 2 best out of 3 CAs considered whether assignment or a class test. Mid term is of 30 marks on first 3 units either completely subjective or objective and end term was 70 marks of mostly mix type (1 mark 30 mcqs with -ve marking and 4 of 5 long 10 marks) The faculty to student ratio would be low given the student intake is very high. Many faculties I have seen are PhD students of college itself.

Night Life

4

During night time or after 11, inside campus only one to two normal cafes are active. Boys can roam and stay outside nearby hostels, beyond few points not allowed. Girls are not allowed outside after dark, max 8 pm but girls hostels are connected from inside with huge open area and sports courts so they too have a lot of space to roam with other girls there. Each hostel has free open gym sort of with some machines like any public park and there are 3 paid gyms, 1 university's and 2 private which close after 9. The library is open till 12. With so many security guards the inside is quite safe also Outside the campus, some areas are not very safe but some are. There are no restrictions on roaming. Some shops are only open outside too, mostly. The only good I feel is cheap stays and can go far off places too like Amritsar, by renting vehicles.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
