Course Curriculum Overview

4

I'm pratically influenced by my family as they all work as engineers in different fields and also I have been into this field since I was 14 years old. A typical undergraduate Electronics and Communication Engineering curriculum comprehensively covers core fundamentals like Circuit Analysis, Digital Electronics, Signals & Systems, Communication Systems, and Microprocessors, supported by essential practical labs and programming skills. However, while most programs effectively deliver theoretical knowledge, they often need strengthening in emerging technologies like IoT, 5G/6G, and Machine Learning applications. The main areas requiring improvement usually include industry alignment through more hands-on experience with modern tools and equipment, enhanced practical training in hardware troubleshooting and PCB fabrication, and development of professional soft skills like technical writing and project management. Overall, while the basic technical foundation is typically strong, curricula could benefit from closer industry collaboration and more project-based learning to better prepare graduates for current industry demands. A comprehensive improvement strategy for ECE curriculum and teaching methods should focus on modernizing content by incorporating emerging technologies like AI/ML, IoT, and 5G/6G, while simultaneously enhancing practical training through increased hands-on projects and industry-standard software exposure. Teaching methods need to evolve from traditional lectures to more interactive approaches, including flipped classrooms, simulation-based learning, and problem-based instruction, supported by modern technology. Assessment methods should shift from memory-based testing to application-oriented evaluation with continuous project assessment and practical assignments. Also strengthening industry connections through expert lectures, internships, and industry-sponsored projects would help bridge the gap between academic and professional requirements.

Internships Opportunities

4

FISAT probably has one of the best trained students in the state and this is clearly indicated by the high acceptability of its graduates in the industry. A consistent focus on quality has enabled the placement and training cell to make commendable achievements over the years in campus recruitment processes. The fact that all eligible, interested students are able to find a job from campus in spite of the ups and downs in the market has been the highlight of the achievements. FISAT ensures that the students are groomed according to the requirements of industry. In addition to the persistent academic rigour with focus on quality projects, internships and acquiring updated knowledge, every student is made to go through a series of soft skill enhancement training programs during their course for nearly 100 hours. This holistic approach moulds an industry ready professional who can take up the challenges of the modern world.Interaction between industry and institutes benefits both the institution and the industries. This gives a forum for instructors and students to become aware of the skill sets required by industries. All FISAT departments have Memorandums of Understanding with industries that provide internship and training to students. This has increased the student’s prospects in both placement and academics. With the assistance of FAB LAB, IIC, and IEDC, the industry institute interaction is reinforced

Placement Experience

4

Mostly the students get prepared for placements in the third year. Placement training is usually started in the mid of the third year. According to the passed out students and our seniors, the institution has enough good placements compared to other private institutions. The students get placed in MNCs like IBM, TCS, Infosys, Accenture, SAP, Wipro, CTS, IBS, UST Global, Government and Public Sector companies like BARC, ONGC, Powergrid, Delhi Metro and commercial banks like Federal Bank, South Indian Bank, Core Engineering companies like MRF, Apollo Tyres, Sobha, Procsys, Kalkitech etc speaks volumes about the professional excellence of students. The major activities of the Placement and Training Cell include coordinating the Campus placement activities of the college Conducting regular training for improving the soft-skills and conducting regular tests, GD`s and Mock Interviews. The major thrust area of the placement cell is training programs. Every student undergoes at least 150 hours of training programs which is spread across the years of study. They are trained by the best in the industry. Career guidance and placement orientation is ensured through sessions organised in-house and support from experts from outside. Guidance on how to prepare for various competitive exams like GATE, CAT, MAT, GRE, UPSC, PG entrance examinations etc. are also provided. Despite the economic uncertainties and industry challenges, the Class of 2024 achieved remarkable success in campus recruitment. A total of 78 students secured packages of 7LPA or more, with 484 offers from 76 companies. The highest package reached 15LPA, while the average package stood at a respectable 5.7LPA. Notable recruiters included TCS, CTS, SAP, Tataelxsi, People10, SOTI, UST, and Qburst. Core companies like Cadence, Schneider, Kalkitech, Procsys, Aarbee Structures, RDC, Saint Gobain, Dalmia, Walkaroo OEN, and Tejas Networks also hired students.

Campus Life

A vast stretch of land comprising nearly 40 acres forms the campus. Mookkannoor being the birthplace of Late K. P. Hormis, the great visionary and founder of Federal Bank, holds an emotional bondage with each and every member of the Federal family and its well-wishers. Therefore the campus is named Hormis Nagar. With its scenic beauty and virgin surroundings, this typical Kerala Village is expected to provide proper ambiance for the prestigious academic institution. The campus is within a radius of hardly 4 km. from NH 47, 7 km. from Angamaly Railway station and 11 km. from Kochi International Airport. Well known pilgrim centres like Kalady, the birth place of Adi Sankara, and Malayattoor, blessed with the footprints of St. Thomas and the famous Athirappily Waterfalls, one of the important tourist attractions of the state are also in the vicinity of the campus. The students are presented with a number of opportunities to engage in research and development activities through its various research centers and FAB lab. The various active clubs and student associations are a progressive platform for students to engage in activities which enrich their knowledge and skill sets. There is a special emphasis on activities which nurture a sense of social commitment and environment in the young minds. Ample support is provided for students who look forward to becoming entrepreneurs. Living inside the campus in FISAT hostels is an experience many cherish for a lifetime. The freedom students enjoy and camaraderie they share is awesome. The beautiful and well-maintained infrastructure for sports facilities are perfect for the sportive mind. Students never miss the magnificent Library and Central Computing Centre in the campus. The campus provides a nourishing environment for indulging in creative activities in literature and arts along with their highly demanding engineering and management education. The cultural and technical fests are the exciting part of life at FISAT.

Hostel Facilities

4

The institution has separate hostel for first years to avoid ragging and indisciplinary actions. And seperate hostel mess for first years. And with the first years hostel room, there are students who study for MCA. There is total 4 floors in the building and in the middle of the hostel is full of plants and trees in which hostel is build around. The rooms very ventilated and maintained and cleaned everyday. The rooms in the corner of the building has attached bathrooms. In each floor, there are two bathrooms on each end which contains bathrooms for bathing and other purposes. The room contains windows, three tables, three chairs and three shelves as there will be only three students in each room. The whole hostel is invertised so there won't be much current cutt. The hostels are affordable at the price of Rs 27,000 per year without food. As for mess food, it's Rs 145 for each day, that would be almost 4500 rupees per month and there is also a caution deposit of Rs 4000 for mess. Allotment to hostels is according to the distance from institution to your home address. Registration of the hostels is done during the admission process. There are seniors who live outside the campus in PG hostels. But there are no much PG hostels near the institution, you would need a Vehicle to travel from the hostel to the institution.

Admission

I had applied for different government colleges across the state but as I didn't have much rank in keam. So i researched on private institutions and came to found that FISAT one of the best among the private colleges. The reviews over the internet said about the institutions infrastructure, placement, hostel and co curricula activities and also the cultural programmes. It has also had a good rating out of 5 in every aspects. I also applied for aeronautical engineering in an engineering college in palakkad which I got in first allotment and I got aeronautical engineering in Ace engineering College in trivandrum which I got in second allotment but as an average college, i didn't like the vibe that had around the college, so i decided to change it in third allotment. That's how I got into FISAT in the third allotment. Even though I had 12K rank in keam, it was a tight competition to even get into computer science department in FISAT, but i chose electronics and communication over computer science. Year by year the competition has increased for even private institutions especially which are located in Ernakulam. The admission process was pretty easy through the keam. If you good ranking around 10K, you can easily get into computer science department at FISAT. You can also get into FISAT through management quota which doesn't have much variation in fees. Most of the students get into FISAT is through Keam entrance exam. And there is also a tight competition for computer science and electronics and communication department.

Faculty

4

There are many good facilities and especially in the department of electrical and electronics, the faculties has been working here for long years. The faculties are friendly and has a very good vibe. We have four series exam and two semester exam in a year. Series exam mark is out of 40 and semester exam mark is out of 60. These marks are added with the internal marks which includes mark for attendance, lab, assignments. Is a little bit struggling over the first year as first semester is only three months long and the teachers cover up the portions according to the curriculum. The HODs in almost every department is very friendly. Its pretty easy to pass the series exams and if you studied enough for the series exams, it gets easier to pass sem exams. Almost all the branches course curriculum is updated this year. The Federal Institute of Science and Technology (FISAT) in Ernakulam, Kerala, is a prominent engineering college established in 2002. It is affiliated with APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and offers various undergraduate and postgraduate programs in engineering and technology. This institute emphasizes a practical approach to learning, encouraging students to engage in projects and internships that enhance their skills and employability. Basically the faculties at FISAT is generally well regarded for their expertise and commitment to student development. Many faculty members are approachable, fostering a supportive learning environment. This institute also organizes various workshops, seminars, and extra curricular activities to facilitate interaction between students and faculty, enhancing the overall educational experiences. The course curriculum at the FISAT is designed to be relevant and aligned with industry standards and technological advancements.
