What Students Say
Likes
- First and foremost most of the faculty you'll find are good with their knowledge. However in first year you get visiting faculties and then in subsequent years permanent faculties will teach you
- The environment for tech enthusiasts is very great like if you aspire to get a tech job then it's best place to get into after IIT Delhi in Delhi region I would say
- The IIF society which is Innovation and Incubation Foundation is doing a very great job proving necessary equipments and guidance for future entrepreneurs
Dislikes
- The worst thing anyone would say about NSUT is that it's campus is not well organised. Despite having a campus of 145acres. I would say 30-50acre is used and the rest part is just like an abandoned forest
- The lecture halls for 1st years are great but for 2nd years it's still old fashioned with some of the classes not even air conditioned
- Despite having many 3 unicorn,AIR-1 of upsc 2016 topper, various other famous founders as alumni, the admin does negligible contribution to call them to address in the events to increase its reach in the region
Course Curriculum Overview
Although I'm upgraded from mechanical to instrumentation and control engineering, this branch is a combination of electronics and Computer science subject as you have to study topics of both the subjects. ICE is one of the oldest branch of NSUT this making it a well known branch for recruiters during placements. The practical analysis of what we are studying in ICE is need more as I feel because this is a practical based branch but there are less classes alloted to labs. The exams for ICE branch are checked leniently in first year but from second year this branch students cry for getting even 50% of marks in many subjects
Internships Opportunities
Internship opportunities are quite less in the college when compared to the no of students applying for it as around 100-200 students only get on campus internship opportunities out of 2500+ students. Major companies visiting college for internships are microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Samsung for the post of SDE in tech field, you'll get good opportunity in non tech internships provided by companies like JP Morgan, bain and company offering the position of buisness analyst or data science analyst, etc. however saying in regret it's quite difficult to get an internship in core in NSUT because not many core companies visit college. For a tech internship you need to have a good hold in DSA along with any one development field, it's recommended to start preparing for internships from the beginning of 2nd year as most of the serious ones do start at the same time. For non tech internships you need to have a good communication skills along with a charismatic nature to influence others, which can be developed while being in a society like 180DC consulting society of NSUT that trains you for the consultanting placements while giving opportunities to work on real market case studies.
Placement Experience
Usually the placement session starts in the beginning of the 4th year when the recruiters start coming however some people get PPOs even in the end of 3rd year. How the number of on campus internship is quite less of around 100-200 including all three campuses of NSUT. As of now the a total of 457 companies visited for on campus placements and 1400+ offers were given out of 2500 students in the yr 2023 published by the College administration. The highest package offered was 87 lpa and the average package was around 8-10lpa overall. The placement percentage would be around 60-70% overall but talking about my own ICE branch it had a fantastic percentage of 97%. My plans after getting degree is to getting into either a tech MNC or into a core semiconductor company like Qualcomm, Foxconn, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees for any program for a general category student at NSUT in B.Tech for the first year is 2.5lakh which gets increased by 5-10% every subsequent years. 2.5lc. constitutes of tution fee of 77k, admission fees of 35k, development fee of 10k, caution fees is around 25k and the rest component constitutes under infrastructure fees(including sports, society, lab, etc.) Fees for OBC and EWS category is approximately around 7-8lakhs, and for SC and ST category it's about 4-5 lakhs majorly the tuition fees rest is waived but this is usually after availing the scholarships. Plenty of Scholarship are available for category students. The prominent ones are:- MCM:- for students with family income less then 3.5lc. and SC,ST,OBC category. CVSPK:- it has various sections of availing scholarships like people with family income less than 2.5lc. gets 80%tution fee waiver, less than 4lc gets 40%tution fee waiver and soo on. There's also a scheme for merit based students that if you are among top 3-5 students in you batch then your 100% tution fee will be waived which is little difficult but possible. There plenty of Scholarships available it's just you have to be aware and apply on time.
Campus Life
There are usually 3 major fests taking place in NSUT i.e RESONANZ- this is a 2 day fest exclusively for NSUT college students organised just after mid sems for students to socialize. INNOVISION- this is a tech fest which takes place during the end of every year. MOKSHA- This is the main fest of NSUT which is a 3 day fest where people from different colleges arrive to experience this amazing event, where multiple bollywood stars, singers visit the campus to perform. The library facility I would say is not that well organised when compared to any other decent IITs NITs or even DTU, this I would say is needed to develop more in the college. You'll find amazing facilities in lecture halls for 1st year but for 2nd year if you are not a CSE student then sadly you have to bear lectures without an Air conditioned classrooms. Sports facility is also something which needs to be upgraded more, there's a running track recently developed, other than that youll have cricket ground not maintained, table tennis room well maintained and many other sports facilities but not of world class. There are nearly 45 societies in the campus which covers a wide range of interests from coding to debating to acting to startups. You'll definitely find most of your time indulged in soc activities and events.
Admission
I got 97.46 percentile in jee mains and 252 marks in BITSAT but didn't went. Bits pilani because of dual degree in which what Btech course I'll get wasn't even defined till I complete the first year there. I applied for JAC counselling and was getting engineering physics in DTU but I am not fond to pure physics very much thus I chose NSUT as my future shaper. I couldn't get into IITs because of my weak hold in maths and due to which I got 119 marks in yr 2024 which was not enough to get into IITs despite qualifying the exam. This year the cutoffs rose significantly as when compared to 2023, the paper was quite on high level but still there was nearly 15-20 marks gap in qualifying marks. However I would say it's just destiny what decides your path and NSUT isn't even bad in any terms it's just IIT has a tag but if worked hard in NSUT, you can still land into a company with 80lc placement package. You can get into NSUT vio jee mains marks through JAC counselling and to just get into NSUT you may require a minimum percentile of 93-94percentile and for cse branch you have to get 99.1+percentile if you are have home state quote otherwise you need to have 2000-3000 AIR rank in jee mains to get in CSE branch. There's also a provision for students who are living outside India (DASA), in this category students can get into NSUT with quite less percentile also.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio will be around 50:1. Most of faculty members are good but there are few professors with whom doing 1 mistake may even lead to detention in that semester. The best faculty I would say is of Civil as they are usually understanding and also helps students whenever needed. The faculty to dislike is none other than the faculty of engineering design "Mr. Arvind Meena", the most scariest faculty everyone says in college. There are usually 2 exams in a semester i.e mid sem-20 marks and end sem-50 marks ... Along with this there are also Class tests CTs conducted every 2-3 weeks whose marks also added in the final result list. There are some subjects in which getting marks is like founding a pearl in you purse. Ece and EE subjects are the toughest subjects to score in like in mid sem 5-7 is the avg score of class. The course curriculum I feel is quite irrelevant in 1st sem as you even being a cs student have to study civil and mechanical engineering as subjects.
Night Life
Gym is there but not well equipped if you are a gymrat, although there were many cafeterias till last year but this year most of them a closed however you'll find Student centre as the prominent one still working. Many other are about to reopen. Hostel Life is something everyone wants to enjoy but if you have a homestate quota then there's a high possibility that you may not get the hostels as atleast 40+ km should be there to get the hostels alloted. However, keeping strictness in mind the college has taken decision that no qst year hosteller can get into the hostels of 2nd or above years and vice versa. Neither the day scholars can get into any of the hostels It's a very great place if you are a photogenic person because you'll find various amazing spot to click pictures of scenic view, infact you'll find peacocks everywhere in the college. Overall you'll be happy in college environment once you get settled
