Veterinary life at ouat

The whole ug course comprises of 5 professional years. Out of which the final year is solely for internship purpose. Different subjects are taught in different years. 3rd year is considered to be the most difficult year to clear others are relatively easier . There are 3 internals in whole year and at the end there is external paper which consist of theory and practical paper each of which carries 100 marks.

There is teaching veterinary clinical complex inside our campus only. So internees are benefitted with the experience they gather on treatment of animals there . Also they visit institutes like IVRI, veterinary dispensaries, voti, olrdc during the whole year of internship. Govt provides a stipend of 15750 every month for each internees.

Year wise fees is around 25K including tution, registration,caution and library fees . Additional 22K per year is required to stay in hostel excluding the mess charge which is around 3K per month. Scholarships are available like e-medhabruti by odisha government that is 20K per year throughout the graduation. There is cost sharing seats available which costs 125000 per year and NRI seats which costs 300000 per year.

Classrooms are very much equiped with a white board and smart monitor, projector and 2 AC ,inverter . A podium and nearly about 15 long desks and bench. Library has all kinds of books starting from Indian authors' to foreign ones. It also has books for preparation of competitive exams like UPSC . There is annual function happening in every year . Veterinary day is also celebrated at grand level . But the core of fests is Dramatics which is held for 3 days every year. Students compete to show their dancing,singing and acting skills.

Hostel rooms are spacious with 3 students staying in each room . It has four cupboards, beds are also provided. There four table and chairs provided in each room for personal study purpose. Talking about mess I have to say the food really tastes great. Menu consist of biriyani in every Sunday with chicken weekly twice . Eggs thrice a week . Fish thrice a week . Mutton feast is done on last Friday of every month. Hostel is quite affordable considering the stay price in a city like bhubaneswar.

Other courses like Bsc etc are not that great to get a govt job . In Bvsc it's nearly certain that after completion of graduation you will be posted as a veterinary surgeon on govt's duty. I didn't got rejection from other courses as my first preference was BVSc but due to some timing issues in admission I had apply in iiser .

There are nearly 4-5 faculties in every department which sums up to a total of 60-70 faculties in whole.Total no of students are 500. As there is only one govt veterinary College in odisha all the faculties are also alumni of this college only . So there is always a feeling of belongingness . Students can take admission by clearing OUAT entrance . Out 50K students only 120 are selected for veterinary courses but ouat provides other courses also like agriculture,fishery and many others . It's kind of difficult to clear the entrance.
