Course Curriculum Overview
ECE(VLSI) specialization is a new sub branch of EC department, focusing on semiconductor design and fabrication. I had an interest in this field, so chose it. The curriculum is fundamental and focuses on the main aspects of the technology. It is relevant in my opinion Overall if the faculties improve their teaching, then it will be beneficial. Exams are timed perfectly, after completion of one unit from a subject, the midsems are held.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are usually open to students after the 6th semester, but can be done even during the4th semester. Usually companies offer basic stipends of 10k per month. 4th semester students look for online internship opportunities outside of the college ambit. The projects and outcomes are as per requirements of the internship. I haven't started an internship yet.
Placement Experience
Placements in our college are decent enough if your CGPA is above 7.5, the CGPA requirement varies by company. Student's are eligible for placement from 6th semester onwards Some 30 companies visited last academic year, with the highest package being around 53 LPA The percentage of placed students is around 50%. I plan to pursue higher studies after my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
I'm paying 1,60,000/- per year, for ECE (VLSI specialization). Tution fee is 1,50,000/- and 10,000/- for exam fees. Lab fees, development fees and other ancillary fees are included in the tuition fee itself. The highest fee is for CS (Full stack specialization), which costs around 3,00,000/- per year. Other CS branches also cost around 2,50,000/- to 2,80,000/- The only available scholarships through the college are the State funded scholarships by Govt of Karnataka. Other private scholarships can also be obtained with the help of the college.
Campus Life
Overall campus life is excellent in NMAMIT. One of the primary reasons I came here. Incridea is the main cultural and techno fest, held usually in February every year. The library is decently sized, and books required will be usually available All the facilities expected like a projector are available in the classroom. The classroom is a good place to be. NMAMIT has a lot of student clubs, both technical and non technical. The technical clubs win a lot of event's in other colleges. The social media handles of the various clubs are active.
Admission
I didn't apply for other colleges, although I was interested in Ramaiah Institute of Technology Bangalore. But my KCET rank was around 15k so I wouldn't get my desired branch i.e ECE I hadn't applied for any college after getting my KCET rank. Admission to NMAMIT is through the NUCAT entrance exam held either at the college or online. Eligibility is just like any other entrance exam. The cutoffs vary a lot. Overall the admission process was smooth
Faculty
For the ECE(VLSI) department, for 75 students there are 10 faculty. So the overall faculty to student ratio of about 30:1 is good in my opinion. Best faculty: Vinaya Acharya (Maths). Makes it easy to understand the concept by fundamental explanation Not the best: Sushma P S (Electronic Devices). Although very experienced, Doesn't explain concepts clearly and leaves a lot of room for ambiguity There are 3 exams in a semester: mid sem 1 and 2, and sem end. The mid sems are very easy and are based on basics. The percentage of students failing is low. Since VLSI is a new specialization in ECE, the curriculum is in line with the latest AICTE guidelines and industry requirements.
Other Applied Colleges
Ramaiah Institute of Technology - [RIT] | Bachelor of Engineering [BE] (Electronics & Communication Engineering)
RIT was my first choice after writing KCET, but my rank was around 15k, which wasn't enough for an ECE seat. Nitte was closer to home, plus I had heard good things about the academic and campus life at NMAMIT.
