Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is wll-planned. Basics are well taught in the starting semesters followed by advance with practicals. The projects done have real world applicability and give us experience in that. The curriculum is mostly the same in all the top engineering colleges. The exams happen every 1-1.5 months and their difficulty level is moderate.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies visit for internship oppurtunities in the 3rd year like amazon, flipkart , linkedin etc. The roles vary, mostly being of software developer. The projects are company specific and PPO can also be offered through internship.
Placement Experience
Students can get campus placements from 5th semester onwards through internship and then PPO opportunities. The main placement season starts from the 7th semester and onwards till 8th semester. Many good companies visit, including ION, Zomato, HSBC, Microsoft, PWC, TCS, Accenture etc. At my time 800+ companies visited. In CS the highest package were around 50 LPA and average was around 7 LPA. 90 percent + students got placement even in recession times. My plans are to gain real world experience through a job for now.
Fees and Financial Aid
The yearly fee structure for the course includes a tuition fee of Rs 4,95,000. Hostel fees vary depending on the type of accommodation but average around Rs 1,70,000. In addition to tuition and hostel fees , there is a security deposit of around Rs 18,000 and a counselling fee of Rs 10,000. The overall fee structure can differ based on the category of admission. For Instance, Category 1 students pay appx Rs 2,50,000 Category 2 Rs 3,00,000 Category 3 Rs 3,50,000 Category 4 Rs 4,50,000 Category 5 RS 4,95,000 There are no scholarships or financial aid options that I am aware of for this particular course.
Campus Life
The annual cultural fest is Riviera, it is a 5-day event and includes concerts, stalls, food etc. The annual tech fest is Gravitas with many chaptersand clubs participating in different events. There is a big library present in the campus , it has 3 floors and many books available on different topics. Each classroom has a projector and smart screens. The campus has got 2 big outdoor sports grounds and indoor arenas as well ranging from gyms to badminton etc. The college has hundreds of clubs and chapters that one can be a part of which include technical chapters, social clubs etc.
Hostel Facilities
Different types of rooms are available with bed , cupboard and washrooms. All types of mess menus are available like veg, non veg and the food quality is average. The hostels are registered online through the campus website and can range from 1,50,000 to 2,30,000 per year. Students can only live off campus in their 4th year.
Admission
I applied for 2-3 other colleges. I was getting confirm admission from Manipal Institute of Technology(MIT) and Chandigarh University. But I chose VIT Vellore over MIT because in MIT I was getting EEE, I wanted CS branch. I chose VIT over Chandigarh University beacuse VIT is better than CU in terms of placement. These were the only colleges that I applied for. The admission process for my college is: VITEEE entrance exam is conducted and cutoffs are deicded for various branches and categories. When I took admission in during corona pandemic, VITEEE was not conducted, the admission was based on board percentage. After the exam, there is offline counselling. Students have to fill in there desired branches and attend counselling. After that a branch is assigned and admission is confirmed. The admission process is simple and easy.
Faculty
The faculties are highly qualified and in general, are good in nature to the students. They are approachable with all sorts of doubts that a student can have. All the faculties that I had in my CS departement were of good nature. Three exams are conducted in a semester. CAT 1 , CAT 2 and final FAT exams, the exams are of moderate difficulty and accurately judge the student's knowledge.
