What Students Say
Likes
- Annual cultural and techfest and placement assistance almost 100% placement
- Good infrastructure as it was spread over more than 1000 acres and labs were good fully funded by central government guest lectures were organised with faculties visiting the campus even from US, UK Japan etc
- Hostels were cleaned regularly so hygiene was maintained
Dislikes
- No airport if you are from norther region such as Delhi you will have to book a train ticket no alternate
- Train journey would take almost 12 hours sometimes even more if train is delayed
- No Diwali break only Durga Puja break so need to plan things accordingly as you have to stay there for 4 years if you plan to do bachelors
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum was relevant and there are enough opportunities be it abroad or in India if you graduate and maintain good GPA many batchmates went abroad for Masters so you can say course curriculum was designed as per international standards.
Internships Opportunities
Department heads used to assist with internship opportunities and placement cell was also there for paid interships. Ample opportunities available both on campus and off campus if you follow the process diligently
Placement Experience
Placement is good almost all of my batchmates got placed through on campus, only people with no communication skills suffered and they also got placed within 6 months of graduation. Placement is not an issue some even had multiple offers.
Fees and Financial Aid
Semester wise fees payment bi annually 1.5 lac per annum including hostel and tutition fees caution money was 10,000 INR State government scholarships are there if you are from reserved category but you have to score cetain threeshold only then you would get scholarship
Campus Life
Social aspect is very good people from all across India and even some from other countries such as affluent families from Nepal and Bhutan used to send thier children to study and every batch there were 50-60 NRIs through international quota, annula tehcfest and cultural festival were organised. There were closed to 50-60 student clubs maybe more and every weekend there used to be some event organised for students.
Hostel Facilities
Even in 2011 every room had high speed interent connection, private rooms with single occupany were available, cleanliness was good only thing I didnt like was meal quality, but they cahrged nonimal hostel and mess fees.
Admission
Only thing which I didnt like about NIT Rourkela was it connectivity as the city has not got an operational airport and because of this placements were not as good as it would have been. But they are planning to start a centre in Bhubaneshwar which is mainly for final year students so that they dont miss out on an opportunity.
Faculty
Course was well structured and designed as per international standards Faculty to student ratio is also good but can be improved. They assign Faculty advisor when you join departmental classes and you can discuss any problem you face while your stay at NIT. Hospital is there which is inside the campus and you dont have to spend even a single penny on health issues all is being taken care of by the institute. Very strict on attendance part almost 80% attendance is mandatory otherwise you wont be able to appear for exams. Knowledgeable faculty
