Course Curriculum Overview
Civil engineering courses are linked with construction, transportation, surveying, etc which is the kind of work I personally want to do. That's why I chose this course. The course curriculum provides internships and site visits along with theory and lab papers which help students to understand and experience more about real world jobs and sites. Teaching methods in every college is considered outdated. Though projectors and other digital methods are used for teaching, the full potential of technology is not implemented in it. A semester is either 4 or 5 months long. After a semester , university exams are conducted over a month. During semester 2 series exams are conducted along with note submission, assignments, etc. And exams are not that much difficult but not much easier too.
Internships Opportunities
Stipends are not provided with internships. As a civil engineering student I have done internships with Cordon and government organisations like KHRI. I've been to other work sites and places for site visits which enables us to understand and experience about the kind of profession we are going to be in.
Placement Experience
Campus placements are generally conducted on the 7th and 8th semesters of the course. Placements are generally low for civil engineering department but it's there. TCS, L&T, UST are some of the companies which conducts interviews. Average packages vary every year. It is approximately 4 LPA. About 20% of students get placed. I'll be going to pursue either B. Arch or M. Tech.
Fees and Financial Aid
75000 a year as tuition fees dor management quota. 1 lakh per year for NRI quota. Scholarships are given according to the marks scored in entrance and +2 exams. Fees is generally paid in the start of the year along with other feeses like exam fees for university, store fees, etc.
Campus Life
Annual fest is named Illuminati and tech fest named Colloquium. There are other fests also namely Samagra and arts & sports fests, programmes conducted by clubs and other bodies like IEEE, CSI, NSS, etc. The library is a building with 3 floors including places for studying references. The library contains a lot of study materials and fictional books also. Journals can also be found in the main library. Specific department libraries are also provided. Projector facilities, computer labs with internet connection are provided. NSS for students who want to service the society. Innovation club or IEDC for those who wants to establish their ideas for business or other projects. IEEE is also present in the campus And other department specific clubs are also there namely IGS, CSI, etc.
Admission
I didn't apply to any other college because our college is well known in our district and is one of the best private colleges in the state. And it was close to my home too so I never had to apply for another college. I didn't got rejected because I never applied. The student must qualify Keam which is the entrance exam for engineering and medical specific to the state of Kerala. Should have good and considerable marks on the exams of +2 also. Students can apply to the college after the ranking of Keam is published for merit seats. Can appear directly to the college for management and NRI seats too. Admission experience was good as staff were very much helpful and keen on making me understand about the campus and it's every aspects and details.
Faculty
Faculty student ratio can be considered as 1:7 roughly. And the faculties are very much approachable, experienced and caring. In every semester there are a total of 3 exams for written exams 2 series and 1 semester (university) exams. And 2 lab exams also. 1 internal and 1 external exam. Difficulty of exams varies with subject. Some can be very easy while some are very much tougher than we expect. About half of the students pass all the subjects while the other half don't manage to clear 1 or 2 papers.
