Course Curriculum Overview
As per the NEP batch there was a lot of change in the course curriculum like previously we had 3 subject combination and all the three subjects had equal importance, but now there is 2 subject combination and one subject is to be chosen by the student as an optional subject and is to be studied for 2 years. in final year there will be only 2 major subjects which are broken down into paper 1 and 2 and labs are also taken accordingly. there are also some subjects which are taught in this course which are different and provide real time applications for students to apply like digital fluency, AI etc. majorly the portion is covered per semester and self study by students before the exam helps them to clear exam in better ways. the teaching methods are traditional chalk and board as well as smart classes. internal exams are of 30 marks for 1hr whereas external final examination are of 60 marks for 2 hrs.
Internships Opportunities
the college provides internships in the final semester with stipend of rs 5000 to 10000 per month. the internships are mainly from the field of biotechnology, zoology and computer applications. Mainly the internships are provided by the pharma companies in karantaka in which projects like pcr technique etc are taken.
Placement Experience
The placement scene in this college is promising, especially for students pursuing B.Sc and M.Sc programs. it has a dedicated placement and training cell that actively prepares students for the recruitment process by mock interviews. students become eligible for placements in final year. the top recruiting companies includde infosys, wipro, cognizant etc. On an average 50 to 60% of eligible students get placed with the remaining either pursuing higher education or looking for opportunities in civil service or elsewhere. My plans after my graduation is to pursue masters in forensic science in NFSU and then to work in the FSLs
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
A per the batch of NEP the overall fees depended on the combination of subjects. If the combination of subjects was zoology chemistry and botany then the total fees was roughly Rs. 80,000 for the whole course but if you want to do any special subject like biotechnology then every year Rs 12,000 must be paid for the subject and the total fees increase roughly upto Rs. 1,16,000. the fees include lab facilities, campus fees, tuition fees, admission fees and co-curricular activities. Exam fees are to be paid separately before the final exam of every semester. As to talk about the scholarships, student from SC/ST/OBC category can avail this facility. Also the students whose caste falls into minority can avail various scholarships. Concession in the fees will be given to meritorious student after checking their report cards of 10th and 12th before the admission.
Campus Life
The college hosts a number of cultural and technical festivals that give students an opportunity to showcase their talents and engage in diverse extracurricular activities. the festivals are inta college as well as inter college where students are also awarded with trophies on their win at the valedictory function which occurs before the end of every academic years. also final year students are awarded with cash prize when they top in their overall exams. the library we have is full of books and journals. there are not only course related books but also novels, magazines and newspapers for the student to make their current affairs strong for civil services.
Admission
why i chose this college over other colleges i applied was the academic excellence of this college. it had the best faculties for zoology, botany and biotechnology in belgaum. the college offers a rigorous curriculum which has been updated frequently as per the rules of UGC. As it is autonomous in nature it has more control over the syllabus, assessments and academic calender. the faculty in this college has garnered a reputation of being highly experienced. the admission process was quiet simple and counselling process is well structured in this college. they have no entrance exams but check the percentage of class 10th and 12th. if the student has got above 50% then they are eligible for admission in this college.
Faculty
The faculty members in every department are experienced and knowledgeable due to which students can gain lot for knowledge and easily get good grade to pursue the degree easily. they are strict when it come to the academic area but they are very friendly with students and they treat us like their own family. My personal favorite faculty is the HOD of Zoology Miss Maben who has an experience of approx 30 years and she is an expert in the field of zoology. She is a not only a good faculty but also a great supporter you can have in your college years. All faculties in the college are very soft spoken and gentle with student so there are no such faculties here that students dont like. AS to talk about the exams the internal paper are well made from the syllabus itself, nothing is asked outside the syllabus and difficulty level is medium. Majority of the students pass all the examinations with good score and there are rarely 2-3 people who fail only when they do not attend the classes.
