S.P. College, Pune Review

Though the college is very nice in most of the areas, some times you may get irritated by administrative staff. There will be long que sometimes for exam form (due to university affiliates process) Autonomous status is given to the college by UGC. NAAC has reaccredited college with A+ grade and 3.70 CGPA out of 4 which was 5th all over India ( at the time of accreditation). It has funding from UGC under the star college scheme. Most of the science department has separate government funding under UGC DBT scheme

Currently Course curriculum is according to S P Pune University. But from 2019-2020 academic year S.P. College will be an autonomous institution. Right now, UG Science first year students have annual pattern which includes 4 subjects and for each subject there will be two theory and one practical paper. For Second and Third year students there is semester pattern and students have to choose 3 science subjects and one language. Each subject has 2 theory paper per semester and 1 practical paper per annum. For Mathematics practical exam also conducted semester wise.

Placements are offered for some branches which includes BBA, BCS , Commerce, Statistics and other departments also. Though you won't get very high salary but the minimum packages is descent one in some cases. Placements is the main area where S.P. College is working to improve it's current placement numbers. The major step taken was establishment of Industry Incubation centre. Students are motivated to work on there project and in some cases college has helped students for patents also.

1. URMEE is the major cultural activity of S.P. College. There will be so many competition in various areas and you can get handsome prices. Mr and Ms S.P. is very prestigious among them 2. Annual Science Fest is the major fest jointly organized by 9 science departments l. It consists of science exhibition for all 9 science departments , poster competition, science quizes, ppt presentationa and small activities 3. MAVEN is one of the major fests organized by Commerce department It consist of so many nice activities related to commerce and industry Apart from this activities every department has their own fests.

Since the college is semi government it is fully funded by government. There is very low fees for most of the courses. I'll be sharing fees for open category students. For other categories fees are negligible. For Undergraduate courses for BA, BSc, BCom it is around 3-5 thousand per year. For BBA and BCS course it is around 30,000 per year

Apart from scholarship to various OBC, SC, ST, NT students, there are so many scholarship options for meritorious students. Loan facility are not required in most of the cases due to low fees. For category students government scholarship are available and college staff help them to vail them. For meritorious students SPPU, and some department provide various scholarships.

College support sports and has produced many national and international level players. S.P. college has the biggest playground in entire Pune city. Madhava Mathematics Competition is prestigious national level mathematics exam for ug students organized by Department of mathematics with support from NBHM and TIFR Mumbai. NCC army, navy and armed wings are there. A very active NSS department ia there. A counselling cell provides opportunities to many students in various ways, adhysan kendra are also well maintained

Yes. boys Hostel has a very nice old building and one volleyball court on hostel premises. There will be hot water for the bath, mineral water for drinking, fan, bed, table, chair, mess facility is optional, 24/7 separate security guards for hostel, first aid kit, newspaper. In time is 10.30 pm. Current fee 28,700 Rs per annum Similar facilities are provided to girls and the mess is compulsory in time is 8.30 pm.

Due to support for entrance exams so many students are in various research institutes. There is a very strong alumni Association. Many of the alumni are scientists, famous sports personalities, celebrities, democrats and successful businessman.

S.P. College is one of the most prestigious colleges in Pune and was established in 1916. Most of the teachers are highly qualified and having teaching as well as research experience. Some of them are research guides also and are prominent scientists. In particular, you can also search for department wise faculties e.g. Department of mathematics has Dr. V. M. Sholapurkar sir who has worked as a National Coordinator for mathematics olympiad, head coach for Indian Mathematics Olympiad squad and is currently secretary of Mathematics Teachers Association of India. Principal Dr. D. N. Sheth is a prominent personality in the Algebra section of mathematics. Similarly, other Departments also have very nice faculties and are conducting active research work. There are some young professors also so that you may feel freer to interact.
