What Students Say
Likes
- The placement opportunities are best among all private universities in India and also placement cells are so active they try to get each and every student placed. Also during peak time there are generally 5-6 companies visiting campus everyday.
- Preparation books are provided to each and every student that include subjects like DSA, Aptitude, DBMS and OS that are very important subjects in interviews. Also these subjects are part of the syllabus as well which is very beneficial for students.
- Communications Skills Classes is a subject in every semester which turned out to be great help in gaining confidence and learning public speaking skills. Also there were mock interviews to give us idea on how to answer tricky HR questions.
Dislikes
- The campus is huge there is no means of transport for student either we have to bring our own personal mode of transport like bicycle or we have to take paid rickshaws which take around Rs 10 per trip. Bicycle Stands should be there for students.
- Sometimes the attendance seems to be a great issue as CU has strict attendance policy of maintaining 75% attendance. You are not allowed to give exams if you do not fulfil attendance criteria.
- Some labs PCs are outdated. They hang if we try to run heavy software like AUTOCAD, Android Studio and etc. These lab needs to updated. Sometimes we are asked to bring our own laptops for the lab lectures which seemed to be unfair to me.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is generally made on the bases of Current Software Industry's needs. Thats the major reason I chose this course. The course included subjects like Machine Learning, Data mining, Blockchain Development making the course most up to date and relevent. The subject like Machine Learning, Data mining and etc helps student to be industry ready. Since these subjects are new in industry students are assured that they are learning the new tech stacks. Also course has subjects like DSA, Aptitude, Comunication Skills for student interview prepration as well. The area of improvement needs to be in the PPTs and notes provided by the Universities. They should cover topic in more depth rather than just giving summary of all the topic. I guess only one MST should be there. Two MSTs create alot of burden on the student and the suprize test frequencies should also be reduced. Moreover student health is somewhat affected due excessive stress and tireless nights of preps before exams.
Internships Opportunities
There were various companies giving internship with stipend as well based on the capability of the students. Some of them are: 1). APPTUNIX, Mohali Role: Software Trainee Stipend: 15,000 per month 2). Belzabar Software Design , New Delhi Role: Computer Scientist Intern Stipend: 40,000 per month 3). Blue Yonder, Banglore Role: Business Analyst Trainee Stipend: 50,000 per month 4). Xorosoft, Mohali Role: Associate Software Developer Intern Stipend: 25,000 per month 5). Play Simple, Banglore Role: Developer Intern Stipend: 45,000 per month 6) Cybernext, Mohali Role: Cybersecurity intern Stipend: 25,000 per month The companies provided real world project to work which is very important for any engineering graduate and also provided resourses to learn about tech stacks the company is using. Most of internship included first learn to work on dummy project then work then real word Project. Almost interns have got full time roles in their companies.
Placement Experience
As such there is no eligibilty certeria based on sems. If there is any company visiting campus that is allowing that year student to sit in placement drive college has no issue in it. But companies generally start visiting campus in 3rd year beginning. Arround 200 companies visited the campus as per my knowledge. I guess no of offer made are arround 1000. Highest package on campus was offered by ZScalar arround 40lpa and the average package is arround 7lpa on campus. Also there are other companies offering arround 35lpa like AUTODESK and mojor companies were arround 8lpa-12LPA like BELZABAR SOFTWARE DESIGN, BLUE YONDER, ZASSOCIATES , PLAYSIMPLE GAMES and etc. Profiles were developer ,BA , associate software engineer, devops engineer, computer scientist , QA and etc. The percentage of 2024 was less due factors like recession its arround 60%. I am current working as software developer in BELZABAR SOFTWARE DESIGN and thinking of doing excutive MBA from CU.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees was 80,000 per semester but I paid Rs40,000 per semester because I was provided with 50% scholarship. Other than that there was extra amount of 2000 per semester for examination fee. So total amount per semester was 42,000. One of my friend(Sonu) was paying arround 60,000 per semester because he was awarded with 25% scholarship & examination is same 2000 per semester & he was paying total of 62,000 per semester. One of my friend(Rahul) was paying arround 20,000 per semester because he awarded with 75% scholarship & examination is same 2000 per semester & he was paying total of 22,000. Scholarship Scheme was as below: 75% Scholarship: student having JEE-Mains Rank under 20,000. 50% Scholarship: for student having 12th marks above 90% or having any national certificate in events like sports, literature and etc. 40% Scholarship: for student having 12th marks above 80%. Besides this loan facilities are there & no scholarship on categories(like SC,ST). All amount are in Rs.
Campus Life
The annual festival like fresher party AAGAZ, CU cultural FEST, TASHAN NITES and etc are organised inside the campus from time to time. Each block has seperate library for student and generally for engineering major books are there but not sure about journels. On campus WIFI facility is there but the WIFI is very slow. Some classrooms are very good but some classroms are not good because there is no proper ventilation. PCs are there in labs but some of them are outdated so students are asked to carry laptop major of the times. Sports ground and sports campus is there but those are lil bit far away from the main campus so you have to travel alot to get there. Yes there various clubs like rotery clubs, litrature club, threater clubs and tech clubs. These clubs promotes the sparks and new idea among the students. Regular competitions are also organized with in these clubs.
Hostel Facilities
Rooms are spacious and these rooms are cleaned every day. Inside rooms there is bed, study table, almirah for each student. There are 1,2,3,4,5 seater rooms available. Either hostel rooms has duct or AC. There are laundary services, stationary shops, food outlets and lush green environment in the hostel. Meal is served 4 times a days. Meal quality is decent as compared to other colleges but generally students gets bored of the taste of meal because every dish taste same. However, there is proper hygine in the mess. Can apply for hostel online via cu's portal and will allocated if get your number in list else you have to look arround for PGs or flats. The fees is 90,000 in per year for hostel(meal included). PGS and flats are easily available within the walking distance from the campus.
Admission
I got Electrical Engineering in DCRUST, Murthal but I chose CU becuase of the placement opportunities, campus, expected good peers and location of the campus. Main reason was that CU is located close to IT PARK of Mohali due to which companies of Mohali generally visit campus fo CU for placements. Yes I did recieve the rejection letter from the YMCA. I was not able to get admission there because of my JEE Rank was less than the required Rank. I guess more JEE Rank would have got me admission there. Admission process involves student should score more than 70% percent in boards and good character in school. Generally a counceller is provided to each student to assist in chossing the branch that is best suited for them based on thier in boards and interest if any. There is CUCET exam that is for scholarship not for any eligibilty test.
Faculty
Faculty to student ratio is arround 1:36 and student's the relationship with faculity in my point of view can very cherishing in CU as here teacher are expert in their fields. If we have any doubt in any subject faculty is aslways there for help. We can easily reach out to our assigned faculty. Pooja ma'am is one of my favourite faculty. She taught me MIC subject. Intially I found out the subject to be hard but due her guidance I was able to grasp concepts effortlessly. Another faculty was Sukhpreet Gill ma'am she taught me the important concepts of Software Development Engineering and she even helped me in project which won runners up award at Flipkart grid 4.0. Hemant Sharma was a faculty I didn't like because he was too strict. He would always be taking so much tests and assignments. I didn't liked it. There 2 MST of 20 marks and 1 one final exam 60 marks. The exams are of moderate level. The course cirriculum is relevant to industry needs.
Other Applied Colleges
Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram University of Science and Technology - [DCRUST] | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Computer Science and Engineering)
The Campus of Chandigarh University was much better as compared to DCRUST and also the placement opportunities were better at Chandigarh University. The peer group is expected to be better at Chandigarh University. I also heard at that time CU organizes r
