Remarks
College life is sometimes very hectic during the 2 years, especially the 1st year when we are not used to such rigorous pressure. The management must ensure that people get outlets to release this pressure, like some fun events.
Entrance Preview
I took CAT and scored 96 percentile. I chose to do an MBA during my engineering days because I wanted to get into the managerial field and increase my options of choosing a job. I chose IIM A because it is the best in India and it is a matter of pride for me.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum is great. The first year focuses on giving knowledge about all domains like Finance, operations, Marketing, HR, IT, etc. so that we get to understand all perspectives of business well. The second-year is choice-based and people can choose subjects of their choice according to where they see themselves in the future. The faculty is awesome! They are very knowledgeable and yet humble enough to listen to our problems and guide us.
Internships Opportunities
A lot of companies came to our campus from Finance, Consulting, Marketing, Operations, etc domains, and I got into a Sales and Marketing role during my internship. The experience was great! I got to learn a lot during my short stint of internship. I got to interact with a lot of people in the organization regarding my work and also went on the field, plus involved some travelling to other cities too. Overall, it helped me expand my knowledge of how complex it could be to run a business.
Placement Experience
Placements at IIM A are good. Although till our year, there was still some effect of the recession and we did not get many hikes in packages but overall the quality of companies visiting was very good. The placement wrapped up in 3 days with students getting jobs of their choice. The packages differ based on the profile of companies. Finance companies offer the highest, like 25+ lakhs, followed by consulting and marketing companies. The lowest packages would be around 9-10 lakhs
College Events
There are 3 major college festivals at IIM A. a) Management Fest, Confluence: It is one of the biggest management fests in India, and attracts students across India and abroad. Participation is 1000+b) Cultural Fest, Chaos: The cultural fest is huge and we spend months preparing for it. We get quite a bit of sponsorship also, and pull off a great show of 3-4 days at our campus with more than 2000 students participating and more than 10000 audience. c) Marketing fest, Insight: Due to the interest of a lot of students in the Sales and Marketing domain, we have this separate fest for Sales and Marketing events. many of them focus on various aspects like Ad making, Disguise Marketing, preparing a pitch, etc. It attracts lots of students from across India.
Fees and Financial Aid
Loans are available from banks easily since IIM A has a good brand name. IIM A also provides a lot of scholarships to economically weak students after proper verification. Many of the students also get scholarships before convocation as a reward for their performance in 2 years in various fields like Entrepreneurship, Academics, Sports, Art, etc.
Campus Life
Campus life is great! I miss the campus so much. It would be open 24*7 as we would be moving from one hostel to another doing assignments and roaming around with friends. There are a few food outlets inside the campus which are open till late at night, so if we feel hungry, we can easily order. there are good gyms and sports facilities inside the campus, and the library is also stuffed with a lot of good books. There are a lot of parties at the Dorm level. Section level, batch level and also during occasions like Holi, Diwali, etc. we come together to celebrate. During Navratri, there is a huge celebration where we invite outsiders also inside the campus and do the Garba, dandiya till late at night. A lot of clubs are there in the college and they seriously work towards their goals and conduct events and competitions throughout the year.
Hostel Facilities
The hostels are good. We get single accommodation in each room. Each hostel has its utility areas which have a washing machine, fridge, microwave. Hostels are clean and each hostel has a separate housekeeping staff assigned. I would rate hostels as 9/10Mess.
Alumni/Alumna
The Alumni network is good and has a lot of distinguished and competent alumni. Our alumni are some of the best-known persons worldwide. However, we do lack in a strong network. We do have alumni meets at college and in various cities, but fail to capitalize on it and benefit from our alumni base. However, things have been changing in the past few years and there has been a lot of focus on building this network. Alumni are now more aware of events happening and there are forums to participate or give their expertise.
