Course Curriculum Overview
I really enjoy studying computer science and wanted to pursure AI/ML. What influenced me towards SNU was the option of chosing minors and electives and also being able to do a specialisation within my course. The course prepares you very well for further academic pursuits considering SNU is a research focused university. Although being able to choose courses from the first semester would be better. We have class quizzes every week and they are on the level of lectures only. Somebody who has studied can easily score 80% but at the same time somebody who has not studied might not even get 1 correct.
Internships Opportunities
Our college has a Career Development Cell which facilitates internships. Google, Microsoft, IBM, HCL, KPMG, Deloitted, Mckinsey all offer internships with fixed stipends. Top performers there are then hired further.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from semseter 6. Top companies like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM come to SNU. Deloitte, McKinsey, KPMG and such companies also come. Highest package offered is 60Lac while average package is 12Lacs. Our uni offers 100% placement. I plan to go abroad to pursue masters in business administration.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The annual tuition fees for the Btech Programme is about 5Lac totalling to about 20Lacs for the entire course. The mess/hostel fees is 2Lacs per year which is subject to an 8% increase ever year. A caution fees of 25,000 was deposited at the time of admission. 1Lac admission fees was also taken at time of admission. Misc fees of exams and all of 10k was charged. Army quota is available at the college with 75% scholarship. Female students with Boards percentage over 95 get special scholarships and sports scholarships are also available.
Campus Life
We have Breeze our annual fest and Surge our sports fest. Apart from that many small fests happen every day. Almost all course material and more is available in the library. Classrooms are highly technologically adept with projectors, smartboards. We have every sport here ranging from Squash to golf to horse riding. We have a very big state of the art gym. We have a student run NGO 'Aura' which works with underprivileged children in our vicinity.
Hostel Facilities
Our hostel has a pantry with microwave, kettle and all required things. Our hostel has a tv room, 2 study rooms, air hockey, foosball and a TT table. The food in dining halls is good with veg and non veg options available in every meal. 5 meals a day are served from Breakfast to Lunch to evening Snacks to Dinner to Midnight Snacks. Hostels are in line with the college fees i.e expensive compared to other colleges but are worth it. 2 floors in every hostel have AC rooms which students recharge themselves. Single hostels are available from 2nd year while Dual sharing are available in first year.
Admission
I was applying abroad but due to some financial circumstances I could not pursue that. I got acceptances from NYU, Dartmouth, Purdue, Bowdoin. I chose SNU because it is a uni like abroad but in India and ofcourse at a lower price. I had applied to SNU via collegeboard SAT. Exams accepted by my course are JEE,SAT,SNUSAT. Most students prefer SNUSAT. Its cutoff is not public knowledge. JEE cutoff for my course is around 93 percentile. SAT cutoff is around 1350 while I scored 1520.
Faculty
The faculty to students ratio is about 80:1 in some courses while in others its even 10:1. So it really depends on your course. Nonetheless the professors are very approachable during their office timings and always provide a prompt reply to emails. Ajith Sir teaches MAT103 and is the best faculty for first semester. He teaches really well and its very difficult to score bad in his class as he teaches very good. Apart from midsems/endsems we have class quizzes almost every 2 weeks or every week depending on course. They are on the level of the lectures itself and are solvable if you pay attention in class. The course curriculum is very relavant to the current circumstances.
