- The college has a good reputation. The campus is huge and divided into various sections in accordance to the field of study. The infrastructure too deserves appreciation. The environment of the campus is blooming with trees and flowers.
- The teachers and the non teaching staff are all welcoming and helpful. Most of the professors are seasoned veterans whose teaching methods are easily comprehensible and easily understood with little effort.
- The fellow students are friendly and easy to interact with. The number of girls is equal to that of the boys. The classes are interactive which makes going to classes more appealing.
Dislikes
- The college is ignorant towards extracurricular activities such as sports and events. There is an absence of a college ground. The only presence is the basketball court.
- There is also the lack of clubs in the college. The only prominent clubs in the college are the book clubs.
Course Curriculum Overview
I am a student of the english language. I write short stories and poems. The course i have opted for deals with the literary history of the english and the present dimensions to which it has extended. I am fascinated by the previous works of the greats and hope to learn to be as creative and innovative in my works as they were. The curriculum does not prepare you to go out to the world and start earning a living, it simply prepares for further learning and mastery of the language. The course delves too much into the past sometimes leaving off the present relevance of the subject. The curriculum could be improved by the introduction of the recent developments into the course rather than the reminiscent of the past. The exams are frequent throughout the year. The mid sems take place every other month followed by the end sems a month later. The exams are not difficult as such so long as students attend the class regularly and pay some heed to the lectures.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total fee to be paid during the admission process came out to be rupees 3000 which included the yearly fee and the other extra charges. A small amount of 500 is also to be paid for other purposes. The general fee for the non reserved category is also just around 3500 to 4000 rupees. If you are a female though the fee cuts in half. Not to worry though cause the government of the state provides a scholarship program for all students which returns the yearly fee and then some. No such merit or distinction os required to avail the scholarship.
Campus Life
My college life has been good so far. The college is lively and full of life. The college hosts a youth festival in the first month of the year. Other than that the college fest is celebrated in the month of june. It lasts for 2 days with numerous functions and show of talents. Library is an important aspect of the campus. The college library is huge and holds thousands of books both academic and non academic all of which is accessible with a simple show of the college id. The classrooms have a capacity of around 80 students per class which is kinda small. There is a projector set up in class which is sometimes used for smart teaching other than that it is a regular class with all its requirements. The college does not pay much heed to sports and extracurricular activities. It does not even have its own ground. The only sport event takes place in the month of august in the name of sprts day. The campus also lacks in availability of clubs. The only clubs are the book clubs.
Admission
My mind was torn between two choices for college, the one i am currently studying at and the St. Xavier's College, Ranchi. Both of the options are well reputed and hold a significant position as the best colleges in the city. I applied to both the colleges but the latter was far more expensive and harder to get in. When i got a confirmation of admission from the Ranchi University department i weighed my options and decided that it was the better of the options after all. And i did get rejected from the other college i applied to, the reasons for my rejection are beyond my knowlege. The admission process of my current college is fairly simple and straightforward. After you get the confirmation, you simply submit the required documents to the college administration who upon verification inform you of your eligibility to take admission. Once deemed eligible you simply submit the remaining documents, the admission fee and register yourself. I did not had to go through an exam or interview.
Faculty
The student to faculty ratio is around thirty to one. All the faculties are quite approachable and friendly enough to be make the students feel comfortable around them. All the teachers are helpful in all aspects. The standout professors are Samira mam and Sumit sir who are fun and try to maintain a healthy relationship with the students. The head of the department Vishnu sir is also well liked for his cheerfulness and jolly character. Somewhat less liked are Poonam mam and Harshita mam who are strict and sometimes tend to be aggressive for minimal reasons. The college in a year conducts six examinations in total - three in each of the two semesters, two mid semesters examinations followed by the end semester examinations. The mid-sem exams are fairly easy and high scoring compared to the end-sems which are harsher are tougher. The only students who fail are the ones who fail to attend lectures or pay no attention during classes. The course's relevance depends on the taker's need.
