What Students Say
Likes
- One of the things I like about Nirma University is the infrastructure. The whole university is in great condition with separate blocks for each Institute. Each block has air conditioned classrooms, drinking water and clean washrooms on each floor.
- The hostel life of Nirma is the best experience one can get, with great hostels, especially for girls, laundry and mess facilities, and security.
- I like the teaching pattern, and the fixed 9 to 4 or 11 to 6 schedule for most courses. There are lab sessions with each practical offering something new to learn, and tutorials for theoretical courses.
Dislikes
- I do not like the 85 % attendance criteria. It feels a bit too much for college and we have to use it very carefully because we cannot afford to have less atendance.
Course Curriculum Overview
I am studying Computer Science and Engineering, which is a constantly changing field. Hence, the curriculum is constantly updated to stay relevant. It involves a lot of topics that prepare us for meeting the industry standards, as well as building overall skills. The Full Stack Web Development course taught in 4th sem introduces new web development technologies like React, whereas minors and electives like Adaptive AI and Deep Learning are also a hot topic. There is a class test, sessional, assignment, practical exam, and semester end exam. Hence, it may feel quite frequent.
Placement Experience
The placements in Nirma is one of the aspects that attracts students the most. Nirma is a big name, and a lot of companies offering good opportunities visit Nirma. The average placement of Computer Science and Engineering is around 8 to 9 LPA. Students are eligible for placement from 7th Semester. Companies like Microsift,Oracle, Deutsche Bank, and many more visit the campus.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees for one year is around 200000 INR, which has 7000 INR for University fees which includes exam fees, and 1000 INR as University enrollment fees only for 1st year. It has not increased in the last 2 years that I have been studying. For students admitted under NRI quota, yearly fees are around 550000 INR. Scholarships on merit and merit cum means are available. On basis of merit, 90000 INR is provided to first 25 students, 50000 INR to next 25 and so on.
Campus Life
The campus life of Nirma is great. There are many concerts and events organised throughout the year. Apart from this, there are many fresher's parties for the new batch every year, organised by different institutes. The college also has its own band, which you can be a part of if you're talented. There are lot of fun events organised like treasure hunt, traditional day, dance competition, personality contests, and much more.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility of Nirma University is one of the best in Ahmedabad. There are 4 hostels as of 2024. The new girls hostel H4 is the biggest hostel, with 13 floors and 36 rooms on each floor. The 1st floor has Non - ac rooms, while 13the floor has single occupancy rooms. Other rooms are Ac triple sharing rooms. There is a gym at 6th floor, and laundry facility in the basement. The rroms have a study table, cupboard, and beds for every roommate. The wahsroom is also attached with a separate washing area. There is a balcony in every room. The mess facility is also very good, with different variety of food. The only drawback is that 1st priority for hostel admission is given to MBA students because their program is residential.
Admission
Personally, I chose Nirma University because it is one of the best colleges in Gujarat, and the placement drive is also impressive. Also, many people eligible for getting admitted to DAIICT chose Nirma because it offers core engineering fields unlike DAIICT. Also, the hostels are better in Nirma. To get admitted in Nirma, you need to perform exceptionally well in boards and gujcet both, or in Jee Mains. 70 % seats are reserved for JEE and 30 % for ACPC (boards + gujcet). As of 2022, the cutoff for ACPC was around 400, not including vacant round, and 98 PR for JEE first round, when 50 % seats were for ACPC and JEE each.
Faculty
All the faculty members of Nirma are either PhD holders, or they have a PhD ongoing. Hence, the faculty members are definitely qualified, and almost all have a teaching experience of over 10 years. The course for every subject is designed in a way to keep up with the technology, and includes the technologies which are most in demand. The faculty to student ratio is 1:75, and the faculties are approachable and coordinating. The best faculty I would say is Priyank Thakkar sir, he is the most passionate teacher I have been tought by, it feels like he genuinely loves teaching. The exams are not too difficult if we understand every topic in the class.
