What Students Say
Likes
- The teaching faculty at DAV PG College is very helpful and come to students aid when required.
- Attendance is not an issue at DAV, so those preparing for government or other competitive exams get ample time to study.
- Despite the fact, that attendance is not mandatory, classes run properly on time even if there is only student present in the class.
Dislikes
- The administrative staffs of the college are rude and often deny to render any help.
- The locality of the college isn't good and usually not safe at nights for girls to roam freely.
- The college focuses too much on academics, there are no proper arrangements for overall personality development like fests, events, sports competition.
Course Curriculum Overview
Since I pursued B.A.(Hons) Sociology, in my personal opinion the course circiculum of the initial two years is primarily theoretic which can't be practically applied to modern day societal problems. However, in the 3rd year, subjects taught are relevant to an extent. The teaching methodolgy is old nd obselete, professors come and deliver their lecture. Since the college isn't equipped with digital boards there leaves no scope for teachers to use slides and other engaging mediums of teaching. The college lacks many basic amenities and even the library at a time can equip only 20-25 students. Exams are semester wise i.e. twice a year. To score 50+ out of 70 is all matter of overnight as one need to only prepare last 3 years question paper.
Fees and Financial Aid
The College charges a student friendly fee of 5862/yr which makes the the total fees of the course 17586. The college fee is inclusive of everything and one doesn't needs to pay any other amount apart from this amount. The College provides "Physcially Challenged Students Scholarship" and "Poor Student Aid" as scholarship and the amount vary as per the unique needs of each student eligible and applying for the scholarship. Apart from these two, College has provision for applying to "Uttar Pradesh Post-matric Scholarship (other than intermidiate)" for students holding domicile of Uttar Pradesh.
Campus Life
The college doesn't provides any exposure. The class are ill equipped and at times of test student struggle in finding a seat as college admits more students than its infrastructure allows. Since majority students belong to eastern UP and Bihar, college often lacks diversity. Library is quipped with basic academic books and nothing much. Since college doesn't has a good and spacious campus, the overall sports opportunities are very low. Overall DAV doesn't provide a good campus experience to its students.
Admission
Any student who has secured 55 percent in his Class XII (regardless of his stream) is eligible for admission to B.A.(Hons) Sociology at DAV PG College. The admission process of the college is directly looked after by BHU. In order to secure admission, one has to appear in the Common Universities Entrance Test (CUET(UG)) exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the month of June and has to register himself/herself at the university's admission portal. The fee for registration is 300/program. Subsequently, the university releases its cutoff, and per the cutoff, it allocates seats. Reservation is as follows: SC-15 PERCENT ST -7.5 PERCENT OBC PERCENT EWS PERCENT Other quotas include PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED, SPORTS QUOTA, EMPLOYEE WARD, etc
Faculty
The faculty to student strength at DAV PG College Varanasi is 1:50, therefore the professors can't keep a watchful eye on the academic progress of each student. A point to add is that professors at times try their level best to keep the standard bar raised above. The professors are well qualified and have completed their PhD from reputed universities of India like BHU, DU, JNU and have in depth knowledge of their subject. Talking about student-professors interaction, the professors are easily approachable both in and out of the college. Whenever neccessary we can call up or whatsapp to our professors even in the evening or early morning and they positively respond to it..
Other Applied Colleges
University of Allahabad - [AU] | Bachelor of Arts [BA] (Psychology)
Since DAV PG College is an affiliated college of Banaras Hindu University which is a much reputed university in India, therefore I preferred DAV over AU.
