Likes
- The college is more than a hundred years old and has a plethora of alumni residing in different parts of the world holding key positions in companies. They are also very passionate of their alma mater and you can certainly seek their help.
- The campus is situated in the middle of the city and everything is very accessible as opposed to private colleges which are located hundreds of kilometres from the main city.
- The college consists of many clubs and societies each catering to a particular field such as dancing,singing, public speaking,poetry etc. As a fresher when you join amy of these clubs you feel a sense of belonging as you meet like minded people.
Dislikes
- It seems that the faculty has gotten bored with their monotonous lifestyle. They just aren't interested in helping students out with internships or research projects.
- The cgpa of more than 90% of the college is below 8 because teachers don't really want to give marks which shows a bad impression on your resume.
- There are 4 mid semester examinations and 2 end semester examinations along with a plethora of practicals ,viva , assignments etc. This takes a toll on your mental health as there's an exam lined up almost every month.
Course Curriculum Overview
The main reason I chose to do chemical engineering in Hbtu was because of the decent placements which it offers. Recently a new building has been constructed for the chemical department which boasts of a lot of new lab equipments and machines. The curriculum for chemical engineering is excellent as it consists of many projects which deals with real world applications which in turn helps you to comprehend the basic work and duties of a Chemical Engineer. The exams are very frequent which is almost every month and that leads to a lot of mental pressure having to maintain your academics with your extra curricular pursuits.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fee for one academic year is 135000. It hasn't increased for the past 3 years. Most students apply for central and state government scholarships. The college also provides a scholarship for EWS students with high cgpa who haven't applied for the government's scholarship. There are no part-time job opportunities for undergrad students.
Campus Life
The annual cultural fest is called "ADHYAAY". It was a marvelous event held in March which saw a number of celebrities performing for students. The singer, Darshan Raval, made the students dance on his songs while the day before the comedian, Samay Raina, made the students laugh their brains out with his funny punchliners. The sports fest is called "AGAAZ" and it has students from all over the state participating in a plethora of sporting events. The campus consists of many clubs and societies which deal with a variety of hobbies or interests. The literary sub-council focuses on public speaking and poetry events, PSMSC(print and social media sub-council) has its own newsletter and podcast, while 'Octave' focuses on dancing and singing. Every club mentioned above has its own Instagram handle.
Hostel Facilities
I lived in the hostel in my first year and it was truly a dreadful and scarring experience. The food was distasteful and sometimes even inedible. In the rainy season, insects used to fill up our hostel and bite the students all over their body. The boys hostels are situated in another campus which is 3km away from the main campus.
Admission
The admission process was quite simple. You needed to qualify JEE MAINS and you were given admissions in branches based on your rank. The cutoff for CS/IT branches is around 35000 rank while for the Leather technology branch it can go as high as 8 lakhs.
Faculty
The faculty is very learned and have done their Masters or PHDs from various prestigious IITs. They are highly experienced in teaching and are extremely knowledgeable. But, they seem to have gotten bored of their jobs and are least interested in helping students out with internships, academics or reasearch projects. They are inadept in class lectures and it seems like just want to get over with the period. Albeit there are a few teachers who help students out and help them land jobs or internships. At the end of the day it's about the head of the departments of every branch and the truth is they're very incompetent and somewhat selfish when it comes to handling students' interests.
