Mandya medical college- a students' insight

MBBS as a course has always been my dream. The closeness to what we study and what we actually do is what attracts me the most. Standard teaching methods are insufficient to build a good upcoming batch so newer methods must be adopted. The university is particularly strict about attendance, which is an irony considering the fact that we dont learn much in the college, rather we learn more by self study. Exams are conducted very frequently and are pretty difficult to pass. There will be 3 internal assessments and a final exam all of them consisting of both theory and practical exams.

The fees is set by the government. So the fees comes to around 60000 a year including all the charges. And exam fees must be paid during exams which round off to around 5k a year. There are several scholarships offered for medical students. But if you are that unfortunate general category student who works hard to earn the seat it is really difficult to get a scholarship which is a sad reality. Since it is a government medical college the price is really minimal and affordable.

There are several fests conducted in this college, although they are really less as compared to other contemporaries. Since the campus is really close to hospital not a lot of grandeur can be experienced. Sports event,kannada rajoyotsava, cultural fest, ganesha celebration and graduation day are conducted every year. Several CMEs are also conducted often.

All students willing to enter mbbs must write NEET. You shouldve taken biology in science in you class11 and 12. The application form would be available in neet official website. The total cost of the exam would come to around 1 to 1.5 thousand depending on the year. The rates keep changing. The exam is conducted once a year and is really competitive. Although not extremely difficult it can be rated a 6/10 on difficulty scale.

All the departments are very well equipped with faculties, with departments like pathology and community medicine having surplus amount of teacher to student ratio. Individual teaching isnt expected and is not provided also especially the clinical and paraclinical branches. The teachers of pre and paraclinical years are extremely approachable. All the teachers are appointed by the government so they are top class.
