An overview of Aligarh Muslim University (MSc Agricultural Microbiology)

Before getting into any university or choosing a course for your degree, you should always know about the syllabus and curriculum of that course. The syllabus is more research-based. Along with theory, laboratory knowledge is provided and we are taught everything from the basic to advanced. Exams are conducted twice in one semester. Internals and externals and practical examination of each along with viva voce. The syllabus is completed before the deadline and we get sufficient time to prepare well for the exams. The questions are from the syllabus, what's being taught in the class and notes are provided. Teachers try their best to teach us, by using PowerPoint presentations, field visits, doubt problem-solving sessions.

The placement in the university is quite good, starting with an average of 3 LPA for different courses. From 3rd semester students become eligible to participate in the Training and Placement program that is organised by the campus. Job recruitment fairs are also conducted 4 times a year in a large number. Companies like Byjus, Amazon, IFFCO, Accenture, Ambuja, Zomato, and many more offer jobs. Tests and interviews are conducted at the convenience of the students or the company, offline and online. Different roles are offered like Administrative, Executives, HR, Teaching, Engineering, etc. Out of 20, 5 students secure their jobs successfully. I have got my degree and now am applying for jobs in my field. IFFCO is a well-known company that offered the job in Dubai in my course.

The total cost of this course is 15,455INR/Year. There are no hidden charges. The university focuses on providing a wide range of scholarships like Government Scholarship that is always more than the total cost. Other scholarships like Bharat Seva Trust scholarship, Maulana Azad Scholarship, Naseeruddin scholarship and many more. There is Merit Scholarship for those who perform well in the class from which student gets 450rs per month and a certificate at the end of the session.

Every year Sir Syed Day is celebrated as a festival and it is popularly known as Eid-e-Alig, which means it is Eid for the students of Aligarh Muslim University. Hall week is also celebrated in all the halls/hostels for an entire week, celebrating each day of the week with different themes. And there are other fests that are also conducted in the campus. Maulana Azad Library is one of the largest libraries in Asia which provides access to world wide journals, articles, and publications through OPAC to its members and allows to study in the library till 2 am without any disturbance with a peaceful environment, air conditioners.

In the hostel, depending upon the course, the rooms are allotted. For a graduate a 3 seater room is assigned and for PhD, Masters students 2 seater rooms are allotted. The hostel has ICT Hub and free wifi all over the hostel with a good internet connectivity. The dining is huge and the kitchen staff is polite and cooks well. 3 meals a day are served with special dinner on Friday and Sunday with vegetarian and non-vegetarian options. Plus evening tea is also served. Hall weeks are also celebrated.

The eligibility to get admission in Msc Agricultural Microbiology is to have a graduation degree in Life sciences or related courses with a minimum of 60% marks. The applications forms can be filled out online on the official website of university before the deadline, as they announce the dates already. Depending upon the course, the application fees of the forms varies. For MSc Agricultural Microbiology it is 500 Rs. The entrance exam dates are also announced after the form completion. And the entrance results are uploaded on the official website of university in the admissions section. They release different lists of results, for example : Confirmed list, Waitlist. If anyone withdraws their candidature from the admission, their seat is given to the top candidates in waitlist . After paying the total admission fees online you can secure your seat.The improvement is needed in the area of notices. They should email those who have cracked the entrance and should tell the process further.

In agricultural Microbiology course it offers only 12 seats. And 4 professors are assigned to teach different subjects. Hence there is pretty much direct interaction of every student with the faculty. They are highly qualified, holding international degrees and highest number of publications in world famous journals, articles,books. Syllabus is always finished within the time limit so it becomes easier to conduct doubt solving sessions before exams as well.

The admission is based on your performance in the written entrance exam and then online/offline counseling. The entrance test is based on the course you have opted for. For example in life sciences course, the syllabus is pretty much from the graduation level, covering the current affairs, general knowledge, the minor-major courses of biology.
