Course Curriculum Overview

4

I am passionate about machines and cars, thus chose this course. Mechanical engineering is one of the largest departments in the college, and do offers a good range of courses, with some good faculties. The curriculum is average, but the faculties make try to include the latest advancements in the classes. There is a need for more good faculties, as some of them lack the communication skills to convey their subject. The frequency of exams is a big boon, there is a mid-semester examination and an end-semester examination, and this leaves us a lot of time to learn and upskill ourselves.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Multiple companies come to the college with internship opportunities, most of the companies seek students for the software sector, but there are companies that come for core internships. Many companies related to mining and metallurgy offer opportunities. Undergraduate students can also pursue research under the professors if they are interested. There are many centrally funded projects running in the college, and many patents and research papers have been published by the institution.

Placement Experience

3

In the undergraduate, Bachelor of Technology program, the students can participate in the placement activities in their last year, from the 7th semester. Where the placement cell of the college takes care of all opportunities, tests, and interviews. Most companies have various requirements to be able to appear for their test. Some require being in a certain stream, and having a minimum grade. The petroleum and computer science stream secures the highest placements, where packages go up to 1 crore for packages abroad. These streams also have around 100% placements. Most companies coming for placement seek students in the software field, but there are some companies for core placements. Around 40% of students get places on campus. I plan to do my PG after this course.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fee has remained stable for some years. There is a tuition fee waiver and scholarships provided by the administration based on the grades and financial conditions. Reserved quotas also receive tuition fee waivers. Educational expenses per semester are about 1.5 lacs, which includes 1 lac of tuition fee. There is a complete and partial tuition fee waiver for students. The institution also provides multiple scholarship opportunities for students.

Campus Life

4

Srijan is the cultural fest, which occurs in January-Febraury, along with it occurs Basant, the spring fest/ reunion fest. The technical fest is named Concetto, which occurs around August-September. There is mining fest called Khanan during the month of November, where major company officials and personnel participate. The library on our campus is one of the largest libraries in Asia, where the complex is of 7 floors. It contains many journal articles, artifacts, and many books for the courses. Classes occur mainly in the lecture hall complex and academic building, and some in the departmental building. The classrooms have proper furniture and some of them are air-conditioned. The institute does good in sports and extracurricular activities. There are instructors for most sports, where a sports complex leads the activities. There are numerous clubs and societies for people of any interest. There are speaking and literature clubs, book clubs, and even clubs for counseling.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel facilities are very affordable, for around 36000 per year. Every student of every program will be allotted accommodation on the campus. The maximum occupancy in any room is 2. The rooms have separate beds, cupboards, tables, and electrical points. Every hostel has its own mess, on multiple floors according to the batch. The quality of meals is average, and the food is neutral and doesn't favor any regional foods. Students receive allotted rooms after their academic registrations are done.

Admission

A student wishing to be admission into any IIT, at this college needs to clear the JEE Advanced examination and attend the counseling by JOSAA. It is a portal centralizing the college allotment for JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. All details regarding this are easily available on on web and YouTube as this is the largest engineering examination in the country. Students from reserved quotas, OBC, SC, ST, and PWD receive separate seat quotas. The counseling requires the student to fill out a preference form from the colleges he is eligible to apply to after clearing the examinations. Where 5/6 rounds of allotments and 1/2 rounds of special allotments also occur.

Faculty

3.5

The number of students in classes vary from 30 to 140. Some courses are very populated. But this doesn't impact much as faculties are open to discussions and doubts after classes. Most faculties lacs the ability to teach, they are good in their field of studies and research, but the skill of teaching is lacking. Most of them are happy to help us with anything, academic or not, and they do allow us to work under them on projects. As everyone lives in campus, it's very common for us to see them at night. Thus late work nights for projects are common. Most of them are happy to help us in academics.

Mechanical branch in terms of number of students placed is quite high but if it is about how many students get elite packages it's less. The average for our branch at our college is 8-9 lakhs but top companies which are into our core space for long are our college partners.

My plans after degree is to pursue masters or right away get on with my family business as we are already into trading chemicals. However, from the number of students from our stream that apply for jobs through campus, over 80% are placed from campus. Labs to industries that deals in manufacturing of chemicals and exporting the same are the ones where students of our college get the opportunity.

Highest package from our campus is eye catching as it's 56 lakhs and for chemical branch it was 34 lakhs. HUL, Sun Pharma, public limited labs and various R&D research centres are those that have helped us to get best available jobs in market as the competition is high but BIT Mesra has still managed to place over 80% students last year.

From second semester we are taken for an hour session for special training. It is optional till 4th semester but from 5th semester onwards, it becomes mandatory and we have no choice but to go through that hammer. Finally, from the last year's 1st semester companies starts coming and we can apply for the same and that is how placements are done here.

Placement Experience:

The placement opportunities is decent for students. The placement of BIT sindri varies from branch to branch but the core brances like Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering has evergreen placements. Among the eligible students around 90 percent students get placed. But in branches like civil and production engineering, its not the same. They have very low placement rate around 20 to 30% of eligible students get placement. For CSE, IT & ECE the placement is highly dependent on the situation of market and it varies early. The students are eligible from 6 the semester onwards for placement . The placement drive starts from August or September and companies visit till students graduate. The top recruiters are TCS with more than 80 students from overall campus , TATA power nearly 20 , LNT, JSW , Vedanta , TATA STEEL, JSL, ADANI, ABG , Shyam steel and For it sector companies like samsung , cognisant, hitachi, TCs, Spyder visited for 2k21 batch. For the batch 2020-2024 among batch size of 710 around 620 offers were made. The highest package is given by samsung which is around 28 LPA , students of CSE, IT, ECE and Electrical are eligible. For IT sector average package is around 6 lakhs. For core sectors companies heightest package is offered by vedanta to Electrical, Mechanical, Mining which is around 14 lakhs average package is around 7 LPA.. Around 75- 80 percent students get placed during campus placement drive. The Wish to crack GATE and join PSU after my graduation.
