Course Curriculum Overview
The course followed is according to the NEP guidelines which focuses upon providing the students with knowledge about diverse range of topics. For example, a student of science stream is also taught about the Indian history, geography, economics and politics. The professors make use of the digi boards to teach but there are times when they face difficulty in using them. So a little more training is required to ensure that the classes are run smoothly. The frequency of exams and difficulty level is fine but sometimes the college exam dates clash with the competitive exam dates due to which the students might face problems in dealing with both.
Placement Experience
The campus placement opportunities for B.Sc students is highly unsatisfactory as hardly any companies visit for placement. Although, there are placement opportunities for the commerce background students. The average package ranges from 3-4 LPA. Only 40-50% students get placements in satisfactory companies. Because of the New Education Policy, I plan to give the NET exam so that I am eligible for a job while I apply for M.Sc course.
Fees and Financial Aid
When I took admission in the college in 2023, the total fee (including tuition fee and other charges) was ?31,050 for the General category students. This year the total fee for general category is ?42,900. Concession in fee is provided for the OBC, SC/ST students. E-Kalyan scholarship is provided to the OBC and SC/ST students. The placements for our course is very unsatisfactory.
Campus Life
Although the college infrastructure is quite average,my overall campus life has been good so far. The college focuses on extra-curricular activities and sports to ensure the overall development of a student. The Xavier's Fest is the biggest event of the college which has not been organised after 2019 due to the COVID pandemic, but it will be held this year. The other important events are the Republic day and Independence day celebrations. Every department organises departmental fests and various competitions on different occasions. Annual sports day is organised every year which is a 2-3 day event in which different sports competitions and a fancy dress competition is conducted. The library has a good collection of books and journals on various subjects. There are various clubs like Rotaract club, Empyrean club, Eco Task Force, Hindi Sahitya Parishad, Drama teams - Team Shakti and Team Abhivyakti, NSS and NCC.
Admission
The eligibility for admission in B.Sc (Hons.) Zoology is atleast 50% marks in intermediate in science stream or equivalent examination. The application form can be found on the college website where all the details regarding application fee (which is very nominal), application dates, syllabus for the entrance exam and course fee are given in detail. The frequency and timing of examination is fine and the difficulty ranges from moderate to high. The time duration between conducting the entrance exam and announcement of the selected candidates can be lessened.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is appropriate as every department has sufficient number of teachers who are well versed with their subjects. The teachers teach in an interactive way and make use of digi boards to teach with the help of presentations, PDFs and video lectures. It is easy to interact with the professors during the college hours as well as after the college timings via WhatsApp. The professors are assigned the topics according to their specialization to ensure that the students get the right knowledge. It is easy to approach the professors for their guidance and mentorship as they are very cooperative.
