Course Curriculum Overview
The duration of the course is 5 years with 10 semesters in total. I think this is good period of time to learn architecture. Each semester has five theory subjects and one design subject. The design subject deals with designing buildings with given brief without any plagiagrism. The other five theory subjects are quite easy other than the subjects that involves maths, which requires practice and learning. all the nine semesters are quite conceptualized, whereas the internship semester gives an idea on how the real world of architecture industry works. Though the syllabus is old all over india, it might be for betterent if the practical learning is involved in all semesters.
Internships Opportunities
internships are found individually, but the teachers guide us throughout the process. During the internship period, weekly and monthly reports from the office has to submitted to the co-ordinator. Tasks like drafting the given plan, section or elevation needs to be done with any additionals details.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tution fees for students in government counselling is Rs.97,500. And the Hostel fees is Rs.1,21,000. Total fees for a year is Rs. 2,18,500. I had first graduate schlorship, in which Rs.25,000 will be deducted from the tuition fees. Thus i paid Rs. 1,93,500 for an year. There is no paying fees in installment, total fee amount for the year has to paid, otherwise the management acts rude in all possible ways. the mess fees has to paid separately, around Rs.40,000. During internship, few firms doenst pay any stipend, but few firms gives minimum of Rs.3000 and Maximum of Rs.12,000, depending on the place and office. as a fresher architect, the minimum salary is Rs.18,000 and the maximum is Ts.40,000 in india, approximately.
Campus Life
There is NASA, national association for students of architecture in the college. Which is an annual event, where colleges from all over india participates in it. Mcgans already has a good name in zonal wise. Other than that, there will be annual cultural meet and sports day event happening in the college, also alumni meet three years or five years once. There isnmt much club or social groups in the college. There is a library with related architectural books and computer lab also, in easy access to the students.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel rooms accomodate two to four persons in a room, with fixed hostel fees. The room has water heater, and other appliances can be brought the students for their own convenience. The Hostel food is average not that great. Food to our liking can be ordered in cafeteria. Foods like dosa, idly, chapati and poori given for breakfast and dinner, whereas for lunch briyani, pulav, rice and curry are given as per time table. Rented rooms are available in nearby village with 5km proximity or in Ooty/ Kotagiri which are 13km away from college.
Admission
The NATA exam or JEE mains should be cleared with minimum of 50% in the exams. Also in 12th marksheet, 50% of minimum should be acquired in physics, chemistry and math. Online application are available, but the best is to go to the college and apply or to apply through government quato. The admission process for me was quite simple, where after applying most of the job was taken care by the admin people. Separate exams fees as per anna university has to paid each semester before commencemnt of the exams.
Faculty
The faculties in mcgans are very friendly, and there is no superiority between them towards the students. They are available for any querries all the time during the working hours and also after that. Also they mentor students during the design semester, during internship and also after finishing the course they guide us on getting proper jobs.
