Course Curriculum Overview
I chose Btech in Chemical engineering. Chemical engineering provides jobs and internship opportunities in Petrochemicals indistries, Food and beverages industries, pharmaceutical industries, oil refineries and many more. One may apply for research in this field. There is also a lot of scope in chemical engineering outside india. Every semester, we give one mid semester exam and one end semester exam. The exams are pretty difficult and rightly so, because we need to have a good grasp on our course.
Internships Opportunities
Companies start to visit the college for internship in the end of 2nd year basically the start of third year and the process goes throughout the third year. Software companies like DeShaw, Atlassian, Orcale, Cred, Visa etc hire student for various job like sde, web developer, data analysts etc. Consultancy companies like Sprinklr etc comes to the college. Core companies also come for the internship opportunities. In chemical the intership opportunities is less for the software field. Good coding skill, good dsa knowledge and a project is necessary for the opportunity of internship. Research and industrial internship provides edge for internship in core.
Placement Experience
From 7th sem, students become eligible for campus placements. All big companies like apple, microsoft, google, adobe etc. come on campus and make numerous offers. The college witnesses almost 90 % placement every year with some students giving gate or going abroad or preparing for upsc. My plan is to get into software field after completing my degree. My college provides access to software companies even to core branch students but the number of software companies opening to core branches is slightly less.
Fees and Financial Aid
The annual fees including tuition hostel and miscellaneous fees is For above 5 lac category total cost is 187000 per year For 1-5 lac category it is 104000 per year For below 1 lac it is 62000 for each year Mess fees is rs 50000 per year. Fees are not hiked every year but there has been an increase in fees lately. I am in the above 5L category so my tuition fees per year is 187000, mess fees is 50000 per year.
Campus Life
Cultural fest - Culrav in March Technical fest - Avishkaar in November Entrepreneurship event - Renaissance (Feb) and Udbhav(November) Sports event - Annual Athletic meet (jan) The library is a huge facility with lakhs of books, providing great range and accessible to students till night. All classrooms have the necessary projectors and air conditioners with proper lighting and ventilation. Even though the building is old, it has been renovated to keep it modern.
Hostel Facilities
Small room, two beds, one table, one cupboard, one chair for two people. The room is not enough for two people, it should be for one. Students change hostel every year, first year hostel is spacious and big, second and third year hostel is old (built in 1961) and small, fourth year hostel is brand new with great facilities and single rooms. Mess is pure veg without any consent of students. The food is not very good and there is not variety at all, students are bored and tired of mess food. For the price they charge, mess is very bad. Everyone should pay 25000 per semester mess fees for staying in hostel and availing mess.
Admission
I prepared for the JEE examination during my 11th and 12th standard. I got 97.2 percentile in jee exam, rank 25402. After that, I applied for josaa counseling and filled the order of colleges I wanted. Because my rank was eligible for getting chemical engineering in MNNIT, I got it and paid seat acceptance fees to josaa. Then I reported to the college for admission, paid the admission fees, hostel fees and mess fees to secure my admission. The application form can be found on the JEE website which also gives the details of the dates and the fees clearly. I did not avail any reservation benefits. The jee exam takes place twice every year in january and April. It is a very difficult and competitive exam since it is given by almost a million students across and outside india.
