What Students Say
Likes
- Faculty is knowledgeable and friendly. Most of them have Masters and in process of becoming PHDs in their respective fields.tr
- Social life is good and there are various social clubs to help interact with other students and network. Attendance is also not much of a hassle.
- Placements, specially average package is decent. It can be improved though.
Dislikes
- Fees are too high now after institute got the status of autonomous. When the fees are 3L/year only certain sections of the society can get admission to the college which in turn will reduce the diversity among students.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course I opted for was Bachelor's in Engineering - Electronics (ETRX). The curriculum is well planned and the professors are very good. The labs and practicals give even a more detailed understanding of the core concepts of Electronics. First year, everyone has same subjects irrespective of the branch. From second year, branch specific subjects are introduced along with mini projects in the term work. The exams and timings that are undergone are mostly smooth. There are unit/internal tests and term tests with 20 and 80 marks each. The timetable for these is given much prior so as to prepare well.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities aren't that good. Only full time opportunities are decent here. I personally did not apply for an internship. Also, most of the ones who opted for internships had to find them off-campus.
Placement Experience
Student become eligible for internships since second year and full time opportunities since third year. The placements for full time start from 6th semester and go on till end of 7th semester. Companies like TCS, LTIM, Tech Mahindra etc come pretty early on. Some product based companies also come in 6th sem itself. Average package is 5-6 LPA and highest is 25 LPA. Approximately, 85% get placed. Some go for higher education too so they don't opt for placements. I opted for placement and got into Accenture through on campus selection.
Fees and Financial Aid
Tution fees, when I was a student here, were around 1,21,000 for general category students, 60,000 for OBC and 3-4k for SC/ST. There is also an option for EBC(economically backward class) students with fees similar to OBC. But now, since the institute is autonomous, the fees have risen up to 3L/year. But along with the institute getting autonomous status, the infrastructure has thoroughly improved. There are additional labs added so as to give students international, real world exposure. Campus placements are decent. Average package is 5-6 LPA and mostly IT companies come for recruitment. CS/IT students have the most advantage. Product based companies might prefer CS/IT students and the package might reach upto 15-20 LPA. Internships are not that common. Hardly few students get good ones.
Campus Life
The annual festival of RAIT is HORIZON. It is pretty popular in entire Navi Mumbai and is attended by many people (footfall is in thousands). It is free for RAIT institute students and nominal fee is charged for non-institute people. Coming to library, it is excellent. You'll get all kinds of books here and the library is huge, with well set up desktops to work or study on. Variety of sports are played here and there is a sports committee that play on college and inter college level. Student run social groups like SUC (student union council), RAA (RAIT Alumni Association) and Kalaraag (singing) along with Footloose (dancing) are set up and run by students. There are interviews if you want to get any designation in these. But overall, they're pretty fun, engaging and student-friendly.
Admission
The eligibility was through MHCET and JEE exam. I got in through MHCET scores. Once the MHCET scores are out, the process was centralized through a CAP website where I had to fill out options for all the colleges. I got in through the first round. The process is pretty simple. Alternative option is to get institute level forms by going physically to the college. This makes applicants possible to opt in for the admission if they failed to fill the CAP form or want a better seat/course than the one offered through CAP.
