Remarks

Chitkara can be a good place if you are ready to give your 100% in developing your own skills.

Entrance Preview

I gave JEE Mains and I had a bad day and I was not able to score well. So there was a choice to either drop or choose a college, so I found Chitkara University and it suited best for my needs. Admission simply takes place with JEE mains exam scores and seats of the branch are allotted accordingly. I heard about Chitkara from a lot of people as it can be a good choice if there are fewer options.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is OK. I mean you can get a basic knowledge of some subjects but the rest is up to you. There are 4-5 subjects taught in each semester excluding practicals. Practicals are also present for 3 subjects. Focus on research is very much appreciated for the students who are interested.

Internships Opportunities

Internships are not provided separately. They are a part of placement. So what happens is, whenever a company visits for placements.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placements and job opportunities are abundant for the talented and hard working skilled people. There is no way a person who is having some skills to show will remain non placed after 6 months of the 4th year.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure changes every year and it is quite expensive. I mean for 2016 batch each semester I have to pay ? 75,000, and at the time of admission I had to pay approx ?20,000 more. Additionally for day scholars, if you are traveling by universities transport system then you have to pay separately for that and it can range from ?27,000 to ?32,000 according to your residential address.

Fees and Financial Aid

There are some scholarships but most of them relate to research students. Many students who have a good idea for a product are supported and funded.

Campus Life

4.5

Campus life is fun for the enjoying people too. There are tons of extracurricular clubs formed, which organize different types of competitions and workshops on different scales. The infrastructure is well maintained. Since it is a university, it has many blocks for the respective courses. The labs are air-conditioned and well maintained. Wi-Fi is available to the students of the university. Sports grounds are available. Indoor as well as outdoor.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostel facilities are also fine at Chitkara. There is enough space available for hostelers and there are different rooms available: 2 seaters, 3 seaters, 4 seaters and the price of living varies accordingly. Mess food is also good and it is very much beatable. There is a menu which is followed strictly and there is a good variety.

Alumni/Alumna

Alumni to whom I have talked to are quite helpful. I personally contacted a senior who is currently placed in OYO rooms with a respectful amount of salary. He was very helpful and told me details about what to do and how to do. I still have his emails and I go through them rigorously.

Admission

We have to fill a form in May and submitted it at Chandigarh Office. Then I visited to the counselling session which was held at Chitkara School in Chandigarh. Students were allotted seats according to their marks in descending order. If a student had greater marks he is given preference for streams first. Administration was good and supportive, there were no problems in the process.

Faculty

3.5

Most of the teachers here are very young and are not that much experienced, and yet the teaching staff is quite regular. Teaching is done on boards, and for practical purposes, there are labs which are well-equipped. There are 60 students in a class which are divided into a group of 2 and are taught separately in practical classes. Lectures are also taken together here.

Placement Experience:

The student become eligible for campus placements from 5th semester. The companies visited per year are approximately 200. They claim 100% placements but in reality they divide students into placement and non- placement batches called tpp and ntpp. If you slip up even once, you will be debarred from the tpp group. The highest package is 53 LPA. The average package is 4.5 LPA. Companies like JP Morgan, TCS, Capgemini, PlaySimple, Cognizant, Nokia, Philips, Morgan Stanley, PWC, KPMG, EPAM, Watchguard, High radius, OYO, Coding Ninjas, Samsung, etc have already came. More companies are yet to come. Since the student intake is too much, placements are really hard to get since there is too much competition. In the end, people get hired in mass recruitment companies and get minimum pay of 3-4 lpa. My plans are apply for off-campus jobs and start working in corporate after the degree. If I don't get a job, I haven't decided what I will do next.
